Abstract

Students use Instagram as the main stage to represent themselves, build identity, and interact with followers through visual features. This study aims to explore how students present themselves on Instagram social media. The approach used is descriptive qualitative, adopting Erving Goffman's dramaturgy theory. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique follows the steps of Miles and Huberman, with the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results revealed that students build their image as motivators on Instagram through two approaches, namely verbal and non-verbal. Verbal motivators include the use of words, such as quotes from scripture, figures, or personal expressions. Meanwhile, non-verbal motivators are related to expressions and body language that express motivation without using words. Dramaturgical analysis identifies that the front stage is where students play a social role in front of the public, trying to maintain a positive image. While the back stage is used to hide information that may be undesirable. Students use impression management techniques in their content to shape the desired image to be accepted by others. This research provides an in-depth insight into the strategies and techniques used by university students in building an image as a motivator in cyberspace, focusing on verbal and non-verbal communication through the Instagram platform. The findings stimulate further understanding of how individuals use social media to represent themselves and build identity in the context of Goffman's dramaturgy.

Abstract

The life of the community in Barambai Karya Tani Village, Barito Kuala Regency depends on the agricultural sector, but in 2007 it began to be replaced by the entry of oil palm plantations owned by PT Agri Bumi Sentosa (ABS). This research aims to find out and describe the factors that encourage people to accept oil palm plantations, and examine the social changes caused by oil palm plantations. The research method used is qualitative, with a phenomenological research type. Data were collected using participant observation, semi-structured interviews and documentation. Data were analysed using an interactive model, which consists of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the factors that encourage people to accept oil palm plantations are: PT Agri Bumi Sentosa (ABS) has obtained the Cultivation Rights Title (HGU); the declining productivity of agricultural land; and the opening of jobs as permanent employees and daily labourers in oil palm plantation companies. The income earned, both as permanent employees and daily labourers, can meet the needs of daily life, so the existence of oil palm plantations can improve the community's economy. The negative side is that oil palm plantations cause interactions between communities to decline, as well as the erosion of the gotong-royong culture. It is expected for PT Agri Bumi Sentosa (ABS) to actively involve the community in every decision-making, so that the potential of oil palm plantations can be maximised in a sustainable manner and minimise the negative impacts caused.

Abstract

In maintaining their existence, K-Pop groups not only compete through their music but also merchandise that supports the promotion of the music they release.  This research aims to understand how rewards, stimulus and positive experiences from purchasing K-Pop merchandise can lead to repeat purchases. In addition, how individuals use social media as a tool to fulfill needs and get satisfaction rewards. Feeling satisfied because they have received rewards and achieved their needs, causes repeated merchandise purchasing behavior. So that it contributes to the formation of consumptive behavior of students seen from the perspective of behavioral exchange theory and Use and Gratification theory. This type of research uses qualitative research with a qualitative descriptive approach method, data collection techniques with observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants were obtained by purposive sampling technique totaling 10 students who are fans of the NCT group at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. The results showed that the purchase of NCT merchandise was driven by several factors, including positive rewards (pleasure and satisfaction), emotional value in merchandise, as entertainment, self-reward, and external stimuli such as the influence of unboxing content or advertising. However, the research also found that the pleasant experience and satisfaction gained from purchasing NCT merchandise, has the potential to encourage consumptive behavior. Especially in terms of excessive financial spending and merchandise purchases that are often not planned, which affects student financial management. This study provides deep insight into the purchase of NCT merchandise, satisfaction obtained, and consumptive behavior.

Abstract

The existence of a village profile is vital, because it provides a comprehensive picture of the character of the village which includes basic family data, the potential of natural resources (SDA) and human resources (HR), institutions, facilities and infrastructure, as well as the development of progress and problems faced by the village. The Patikalain Village profile updating program carried out by the service team was carried out to provide comprehensive and accurate data to support more effective planning and implementation of development programs, understand community needs, and increase the participation and welfare of village communities. The parties involved in the process of updating the village profile include the village government, and the village community itself who play a role in data collection and information validation. In carrying out this village profile updating program, the service team applies the live-in method, meaning that the service team lives permanently at the location of program implementation from July to September 2024 in Patikalain Village, Hantakan District, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency. The activities carried out to support the Patikalin Village profile updating program include: 1) Recruitment of village youth as prospective pioneers; 2) Training of prospective pioneers to become drivers of village development; 3) Designing data requirements instruments; 4) Participatory household census; 5) Data analysis and compilation; 6) Compilation of village profile documents. A more structured and accurate profile of Patikalain Village, covering various important aspects that were previously not well-documented, can be a strong foothold for more targeted, effective, and sustainable development planning, and can improve the overall welfare of the village community.

Abstract

The village of Patikalain, Hantakan Subdistrict, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency, has great potential for coffee commodity development, particularly robusta coffee, thanks to its favorable geographical and climatic conditions. However, the village community still faces various challenges, such as limited infrastructure, access to modern agricultural technology, and a lack of knowledge regarding post-harvest processing techniques. This community service program aims to maximize the potential of coffee as a flagship commodity through community empowerment using a live-in approach, conducted from July 23 to September 4, 2024. The community service team resides in the village to gain a deep understanding of the social and economic conditions of the community. The solutions implemented include coffee cultivation training, post-harvest processing, and the formation of active coffee farmer groups, as well as establishing partnerships with buyers to expand market access. Achievements include improved community understanding of coffee cultivation, increased production, and higher farmer incomes. However, inadequate infrastructure and limited access to technology remain challenges for further development. Developing coffee as a commodity in Patikalain Village requires a comprehensive approach with government and institutional interventions, such as regular training, technology access, and improvements to distribution and marketing channels for farm products. This study explores the potential of coffee in Patikalain Village, analyzes the challenges faced, and identifies optimal strategies for developing coffee as a flagship commodity. It is hoped that the results of this study will serve as a foundation for further collaboration between the government, institutions, and farmers to maximize the potential of coffee as a sustainable source of livelihood for the village community.

Abstract

The Alternative Universe (AU) phenomenon on Twitter reflects the growing use of social media among university students as a space for self-expression and the formation of virtual communities through fan fiction, which involves modifying storylines and characters from the originals. This study aims to explore the extent of the AU phenomenon on social media platforms, particularly: 1) Wattpad; and 2) Twitter. Social media influences the patterns of social interaction among students in the FISIP ULM. AU, as a form of digital fiction visualized through screenshots of instant messaging applications and presented in a thread format, has developed into a popular medium of self-expression among teenagers, including university students. With its diverse genres and strong narrative appeal, AU serves not only as entertainment but also as a new communication space that shapes the social dynamics of the campus digital sphere. This research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, using data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that students’ involvement in AU strengthens social relations, expands digital friendship networks, and influences their thinking patterns and emotions. AU also functions as a space for experimenting with digital identity and interpreting social issues. The contribution of this study lies in providing a new understanding of AU as a medium for social interaction and self-expression in the digital era. The research recommends that future studies focus on the long-term impact of AU on students’ mental health and their relationships in real life.

Abstract

Parenting patterns are suspected to influence the consumptive behavior of KIP-Kuliah scholarship recipients at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Lambung Mangkurat University. This study aims to examine the impact of parenting on the consumptive behavior of economically disadvantaged students receiving KIP-Kuliah scholarships. It focuses on how parenting styles received since childhood affect students’ financial decision-making, particularly in managing their scholarship funds. Using a quantitative approach with a survey method, the study involved 133 KIP-Kuliah recipients from the 2023 cohort. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using simple linear regression. Results show a significant influence of parenting patterns on consumptive behavior, with a probability value of 0.000 (< 0.05) and a constant of 12.737. The regression equation is Y = 12.737 + 0.552(X) + e. Parenting patterns account for 62.4% of the variation in consumptive behavior, while 37.6% is influenced by other unexamined factors. These findings confirm that parenting plays a critical role in shaping the consumptive behavior of KIP-Kuliah students. The study offers practical insights for parents to better guide their children's spending behavior and for program administrators to provide behavioral support alongside financial aid. Future research is encouraged to adopt qualitative case studies to enrich the understanding of how parenting influences financial behavior in this context.
