Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the correlation between leukopenia and the severity of DHF in pediatric patients treated at RSPAL dr. Ramelan Surabaya from January 2021 to December 2022. This analytical observational study employed a cross-sectional design, involving 126 patient records from RSPAL dr. Ramelan Surabaya during the specified period. The sample selection was done using purposive sampling. The variables under investigation were leukopenia on days 2 to 5 and the DHF grade in patients aged 5 to 14 years. The statistical correlation test, Kendall's tau-b, indicated that there is no significant correlation between leukopenia and the severity of DHF in pediatric patients, with a p-value of 0.340, meaning p > α (with α = 0.05). The data revealed that out of the patients, 88 (69.8%) had Grade I, 16 (12.7%) had Grade II, 19 (15.1%) had Grade III, and 3 (2.4%) had Grade IV. Leukopenia occurred in 49 (73.1%) Grade I patients, 9 (13.4%) Grade II patients, 7 (10.4%) Grade III patients, and 2 (3%) Grade IV patients. In conclusion, this study found no significant correlation between leukopenia and the severity of DHF in pediatric patients treated at RSPAL dr. Ramelan Surabaya from January 2021 to December 2022.

Abstract

Background: Intermittent fasting is done with one day of fasting and one day of eating as usual so that it can reduce oxidative stress, inhibit apoptosis and tissue damage which will reduce degenerative diseases. Fasting can activate SIRT1 and SIRT3 to prevent apoptosis by decreasing reactive oxygen species and inhibiting the mitochondrial permeability transition pore component. The accumulation of free radicals is one of the mechanisms that play a role in liver damage so that the SGOT enzyme present in the liver cells will leave and enter the blood circulation, so that the number of these enzymes in the blood increases. Objective : To prove that there was a decrease in the levels of SGOT (Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase) in male white rats (Ratus norvegicus) of the wistar strain which were fasted intermittently by the Daud fasting method after being induced by Paracetamol. Method : The research design used is a laboratory experimental research type where the method used is randomized the post only control group design. The experimental animals used were white rats (Rattus norvegicus) wistar strain 2-3 months old with an initial body weight of 150-200gr as many as 32 tails. During the fasting treatment, the research subjects were not given diet and drinking, while the non-fasting subjects were given a standard diet and drank regularly were divided into four groups, namely negative control with a water probe that was filtered for 10 days and 1ml of 1% CMC-Na, positive control with a probe. filtered water for 10 days and induction of paracetamol 400mg/kgBW, treatment 1 with standard diet and induction of paracetamol and treatment 2 with intermittent fasting and induction of paracetamol. Results: The results of this study indicate that One-Way ANOVA test obtained p value = 0.384. (p > 0.05) then H0 was accepted, there was no significant difference between the SGOT levels of the experimental animal group that was given a standard diet, the experimental animal group that was given intermittent fasting, the experimental animal group that was given a standard diet and paracetamol and the experimental animal group that was given intermittent fasting and paracetamol treatment. Conclusion: There is no effect of intermittent fasting with the Dawood fasting method on decreasing SGOT levels in male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar strain induced by paracetamol. Keywords: intermittent fasting, SGOT, paracetamol

Abstract

Abstract

Malaria is still a problem in many places, caused by a parasite Plasmodium falciparum spreaded by mosquitoes. Haliclona sp. is a sea sponge that contains active compounds, some of which are Manzamine and Haliclonacyclamine A, and have antimalarial activity. This study aimed to find the potential effects of different active compounds on the sponge Haliclona sp. on the growth of Plasmodium falciparum based on in silico. This was an experimental study using in silico method. The materials were prepared and taken from the PubChem web, predicted the potential of compounds, predicted pathways using Discovery Studio version 21.1.1, molecular docking using Molegro virtual Docker 5.0, predicted ADME using SWISS ADME, and predicted toxicity via Protox web. The results showed that Haliclona sp. contained several active compounds, namely Manzamine and Haliclonacyclamine A. The study of the active compounds in Haliclona sp. showed that there was a link between the Plasmodium falciparum enzymes. The PfTK and PfDHODH enzymes are responsible for breaking down malaria parasites. In the ADME prediction analysis of the active compounds contained in Haliclona sp., Haliclonacyclamine A can meet Lipinski's criteria. The last test performed was a toxicity test where it was found that Haliclonacyclamine.

Abstract

ABSTRACT SARS-CoV-2 infection was declared as a pandemic by the WHO since March 11, 2020, with confirmed cases increasing every year. SARS-CoV-2 is one of the varian of coronavirus that has a higher transmission rate, where it is transmitted through infected droplets. SARS-CoV-2 can manifest in the digestive tract. This descriptive study uses a literature study method. Diarrhea was a common symptom of gastrointestinal manifestations in COVID-19 patients. Apart from diarrhea, other symptoms are anorexia, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Gender prevalence varies. The average age of patients exposed to COVID-19 was over 50 years with hypertension as the most common comorbidity. SARS-CoV-2 are associated with Gastrointestinal manifestations which binds to ACE2 on gastrointestinal epithelial cells. SARS-CoV-2 infection causes an imbalance in the gut microbiota that can trigger secondary infections and multiple organ disorders and affect the severity of COVID-19. Keywords: COVID-19, Gastrointestinal Symptoms, ACE2, Gut Microbiota, Gut-Lung Axis
