Abstract

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a polyester which is widely used as a container or packaging material, especially mineral water and soft drinks. Recycling is necessary to overcome the post-consumer PET waste PET difficult because degraded naturally. Chemical recycling is an appropriate method for depolymerisation. Glycolysis is the method that is often used as the process was easy. Optimization parameters of glycolysis on the rate of reaction in the efforts to improve the products of glycolysis has been done as the use of catalysts. Metal acetate catalysts such as zinc acetate is a catalyst which shows good activity in the reactions of glycolysis, but the catalyst is non-biodegradable and toxic. The metal oxide catalysts are also many well developed but these catalysts are toxic, corrosive and can cause severe pollution. More environmentally friendly catalysts such as sodium salt today began much developed to minimize the impact to the environment.

Abstract

The energy crisis demands the development of an alternative energy that can meet daily needs. The existence of rice straw biomass waste and corncob is a potential to be utilized as bioenergy in the briquettes form. This research was conducted to develop and test the characteristics of biomass briquettes as alternative fuels. Biomass used in this research is rice straw and corn cob. The making of briquettes is done by carbonation and compaction with starch adhesive by 10%. To know the best quality of briquettes, a mixture of rice straw (100%) was used, mixed rice straw: corncobs (25%: 75%, 50%: 50%, and 75%: 25%), and corncobs (100 %). Test parameters used are ash content, volatile matter content, and calorific value. The results showed that briquettes from corncobs were the best briquettes from ash content and volatile matter content of 9.52% and 9.7% respectively. While based on calorific value, briquettes with highest heating value is rice straw briquettes that is equal to 3562 Kcal / kg but has the highest volatile matter and ash content which can decrease the quality of briquette.

Abstract

Seawater intrusion causes groundwater in coastal areas to be brackish, so it requires special processing to remove salt levels in raw water so that the water becomes tasteless. In addition to salinity, the presence of bacteria in water can cause disease if consumed without proper processing. Brackish water treatment called desalination can be done by ion exchange using an activated carbon filter. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficiency of the performance of brackish water processing filters in setting aside water quality parameters in the form of: coli bacteria and total bacteria expressed in the Total Plate Count (TPC). The filtration reactor is made using filter media in the form of activated charcoal (20cm), silica sand (15cm), zeolite (15cm), and gravel (10cm). laying the reactor upright and tilted 45 degrees. The results showed that the reactor filter was effective in reducing coli bacteria and total bacteria in raw water up to 100% and 97%, respectively, although it did not meet drinking water quality standards PERMENKES No.492 / Menkes / Per / IV / 2010. Both reactor variations have performance effectiveness that is not significantly different in processing raw water, but overall reactors with upright variations have better performance.

Abstract

Remazol brilliant blue dimanfaatkan sebagai zat warna tekstil dan keberadaanna di lingkungan dapat memberikan dampak berupa human health, ecosystems, dan resources. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengurangi cemaran remazol melalui adsorpsi menggunakan biosorben arang biji salak. Pembuatan adsorben dilakukan melalui aktivasi asam menggunakan HCL 1 M dengan variasi konsentrasi 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, dan 70 ppm. Hasil SEM arang biji salak menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pori setelah aktivasi sebesar 83,26%. Kapasitas adsorpsi terbesar terdapat pada variasi konsentrasi 70 ppm yaitu 2408 mg/g. persentase removal efficiency penyerapan remazol briliant blue oleh biosorben arang biji salak semakin besar dengan peningkatan konsentrasi. Persentase removal efficiency biosorben arang biji salak menunjukan removal efficiency terbesar terdapat pada variasi konsentrasi 70 ppm yaitu sebesar 98%

Abstract

Desa Randegan merupakan salah satu Desa di Kecamatan Tanggulangin, Kabupaten Sidoarjo dengan jumlah penduduk sebesar 4.680 jiwa dan menghasilkan 1908,5 kg/minggu sampah. Pengelolaan sampah di Desa Randegan khususnya 5 RT dan 2 RW dari total 9 RT dan 2 RW, dimana saat ini mampu melayani 813 KK dengan total masyarakat per orang 145 dari total 209 orang yang ada pada bank sampah Desa Randegan, 55 orang diantaranya tidak terlayani. Kondisi saat ini di bank sampah Desa Randegan masih minimnya jumlah armada atau prasarana pengangkutan sampah yang mengakibatkan sampah terlambat untuk diangkut. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi sejauh mana efektifitas sistem pengelolaan sampah yang dilakukan oleh bank sampah Desa Randegan, dengan membandingkan jumlah timbulan sampah dengan jumlah sampah yang terangkut menggunakan analisis berdasarkan perhitungan rumus komposisi sampah dan analisis perhitungan rumus pengangkutan sampah. Metode yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah melakukan observasi kepada masyarakat sehingga hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata timbulan sampah perhari pada setiap RT di Desa Randegan sebesar 30,7 kg/hr untuk RT 02, sebesar 28,57 kg/hr untuk RT 04, sebesar 34,7 kg/hr untuk RT 06, sebesar 22,9 kg/hr untuk RT 07 dan sebesar 56,29 kg/hr untuk RT 08. Untuk kapasitas pengangkutan di Desa Randegan sebesar 1680 kg/minggu dengan dua kali ritasi. Komposisi sampah yang dihasilkan berupa jenis sampah kertas sebesar 2632,5 kg/bln, plastic sebesar 1998,5 kg/bln dan besi logam sebesar 224,5 kg/bln sehingga total keseluruhan sampah yang ada pada Desa Randegan sebesar 4855,5 kg/bln.

Abstract

Leachate can be formed from the percolation of water that passes through the garbage. The high content of organik and metallic substances in leachate can cause environmental damage, so it must be treated first before being discharged into the environment. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of ozonation in neutralizing pH and reducing the levels of TSS, BOD, COD in the leachate of the Griyo Mulyo landfill using the AOPs method based on ozonation. Studies on ozonation in leachate treatment have been carried out by varying the ozonation time (15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes). Parameters that have been observed are pH, TSS, BOD, COD. The results showed that the best ozonation time for leachate pH was at 15 minutes with a value of 7, the best ozonation time for leachate TSS was at 15 minutes with a value of 56 mg/L. The best ozonation time for BOD and COD was at 45 minutes with values ​​of 511 mg/L and 1260 mg/L, respectively.  The best percentage of removal efficiency for TSS, BOD and COD reached 67%; 84.1%; and 88.41%.

Abstract

Industri logam merupakan salah satu industri dengan jenis material yang sangat banyak ditemui disekitar kita. Keberadaan industri logam berpotensi mencemari lingkungan, jika dibuang ke lingkungan tanpa diolah terlebih dahulu dikarenakan sulitnya limbah logam terdegradasi dan tidak bisa diuraikan oleh proses biologi. Oleh karena itu, air limbah harus memenuhi tingkat kualitas tertentu agar dapat dibuang ke badan air. Upaya pencegahan pencemaran air dapat dilakukan melalui instalasi pengolahan air limbah dengan metode Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kualitas influent dan effluent pada air limbah dan efisiensi penurunan parameter TSS dan logam berat. Metode yang telah digunakan adalah metode deskriptif dengan objek penelitian 2 industri. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan cara observasi, pengamatan, pengambilan sampel, dan pengujian parameter TSS menggunakan metode gravimetri, parameter logam berat menggunakan instrumen SSA. Parameter yang telah diamati adalah TSS dan Logam berat Ag, Cu, Pb dan Zn. Hasil uji telah menunjukkan nilai influent Pb dan TSS air inffluen untuk kedua industri masih diatas baku mutu yang menurut Permen LH No.5 Tahun 2014, hasil effluent yang telah memenuhi baku mutu adalah adalah logam berat Ag, Cu, dan Zn. Efisiensi penyisihan terbesar terdapat pada industri PT. Y yaitu pada logam Cu yang mencapai 98%.

Abstract

The existence of waste in the environment, especially household waste needs to be addressed by waste management using a simple method, namely waste sorting. The training in this community service aims to: (1) Increase the knowledge of the community of Kedung Sumur Village regarding household waste management. (2) Empowering the community in sorting household waste. The target audience of PPM activities is Mr. and Housewives in Kedungsumur Village as many as 35 people. The PPM activity method uses the lecture method and question and answer discussion. The steps of PPM activities are lectures to explain the concept of the environment, classification of waste, types of organic waste, types of inorganic waste, examples of sorted waste bins. To measure the level of understanding, questionnaire analysis was carried out by the participants. Overall service activities can be said to be good and successful, seen from the success of the target number of trainees (> 100%), the activeness of participants in discussion sessions (> 50%), and the ability of participants in mastering the material seen from the results of the questionnaire, where > 80% participants successfully answered correctly > 5 questions for each category of questions.

Abstract

Waste has become material considered useless anymore. The rate of waste generation continually increase along with the increase of population, making it increasingly threaten the environment. This situation has been exacerbated by the poor handling of the government and society towards waste. Management of waste sources has become an alternative that can be used to handle the waste problem. The community service program has been carried out in the village of Medalem, Tulangan, Sidoarjo to overcome the occurring of waste problem. The public understanding and awareness of waste issues has been improved through the explanation of material, direct practice and the discussion how to process and sort the household waste. The material that has been explained, includes the waste, the classification of the waste based on its nature, and how to manage waste. It was found out that the Community Service program has improved the public understanding of waste, it was shown that more than 65% of participants had answered the questions correctly. The results of the analysis showed that the public attitude and behavior towards waste problems was good. It was supported by the presence of waste facilities that have been provided by the Village Devices.
