Abstract

Kemampuan pelafalan (pronunciation) bahasa Inggris yang akurat merupakan salah satu keterampilan penting bagi siswa Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK), terutama dalam menghadapi tuntutan dunia kerja global. Namun, pembelajaran di tingkat SMK sering kali lebih menitikberatkan pada aspek tata bahasa dan kosa kata, sehingga pelafalan kurang mendapatkan porsi pembelajaran yang memadai. Kondisi ini terlihat di SMK Budi Utomo Sokaraja, di mana siswa masih mengalami kesulitan mengucapkan fonem tertentu, menempatkan tekanan kata, serta menjaga intonasi sesuai standar internasional. Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan meningkatkan keterampilan pelafalan siswa melalui integrasi media pembelajaran digital berbasis aplikasi SpeechAce yang memanfaatkan teknologi pengenalan suara dan umpan balik instan. Metode pelaksanaan mencakup tiga tahapan utama: (1) Edukasi informasi dasar tentang pelafalan bahasa Inggris untuk membekali siswa dengan pengetahuan fonetik dan konsep intonasi, (2) Pelatihan penggunaan aplikasi SpeechAce dengan fokus pada fitur latihan pengucapan, analisis fonem, serta evaluasi tekanan kata dan intonasi, dan (3) Implementasi media pembelajaran digital berbasis SpeechAce dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar rutin, termasuk latihan mandiri dan kelompok. Program dilaksanakan selama tiga bulan dengan melibatkan 30 siswa dari berbagai jurusan. Peningkatan Pengetahuan Siswa menunjukkan peningkatan skor rata-rata pelafalan dari 58,2 pada tahap awal menjadi 84,7 pada akhir program, atau kenaikan 26,5 poin. Lebih dari 80% siswa mencapai kategori Good hingga Excellent, dengan perbaikan pada pengucapan fonem sulit (/?/ dan /ð/), penempatan tekanan kata, dan kelancaran intonasi. Selain itu peningkatan pemahaman simbol fonetik internasional dan kepercayaan diri siswa dalam berbicara. Kesimpulannya, kombinasi pembelajaran eksplisit dengan teknologi berbasis umpan balik instan terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pelafalan siswa SMK. Model ini berpotensi direplikasi di sekolah vokasi lain, sekaligus mendukung prinsip pembelajaran sepanjang hayat melalui pemanfaatan aplikasi secara mandiri.

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the low ability of teachers at MI Muhammadiyah Kedungwuluh Lor, Patikraja to operate and use Artificial Intelligence-based information technology, in this case chatbots, to support English vocabulary learning. The methods used to carry out this activity included preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The training was attended by 20 participants. It was held at MI Muhammadiyah Kedungwuluh Lor, Patitkraja. The evaluation results showed an increase in the participants' competence after participating in the training activity, with an average post-test score of 90%. This increase reflects the success of the community service program in improving teachers' ability to use chatbots as an information technology-based support medium to assist teachers in more adaptive learning and teaching activities and digital transformation.

Abstract

An important component in learning languages, especially English, is developing vocabulary skills. However, students experience difficulties in understanding vocabulary. The problems they face include a lack of vocabulary and audio speed. The problem of vocabulary skills in students can be overcome with the help of the Speechace application. This study aims to determine whether there is a significant difference in vocabulary mastery skills between students who received instruction using the Speechace application and those who did not. This study was conducted using a quasi-experimental method. To analyze the data, a t-test was used. Based on the results of the independent sample t-test, it was revealed that the pvalue (0.000) was smaller than the αvalue (0.05) and the t-value obtained (8.463) was greater than the t-table value (4.734). This indicates that students who received instruction using the Speechace application and those who did not have significantly different vocabulary mastery skills. Therefore, students can learn vocabulary more effectively by using the Speechace application as a learning aid, particularly for English.
