Abstract

Coffee grounds as organic waste from the coffee processing industry such as coffee shops, are often not utilized optimally even though they have the potential as alternative fuels. The accumulation of this waste can have a negative impact on the environment, especially in terms of soil and water pollution. Therefore, this study aims to develop biobriquettes based on coffee grounds waste as a renewable energy solution and to increase the capacity of partners in the production and utilization process. This training program was conducted at Pillar Coffee Roastery, Pekanbaru, with a Pre-Experimental Design (One Group Pre-Test Post-Test) approach to evaluate the effectiveness of training on improving partner understanding and skills. The assessment aspects used were: understanding of biobriquettes, raw materials, production processes, practical skills in making, and the benefits of biobriquettes. The evaluation results from the pre-test and post-test showed that there was an increase in partner understanding in the five assessment aspects, respectively: 48%; 48%; 40%; 46%; 38%. The resulting biobriquettes were tested for calorific value, combustibility, and mechanical resistance, which showed quite good results as an alternative fuel. These biobriquettes can be used as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel. These results prove that the hands- on training approach is effective in increasing the technical capacity and understanding of partners related to renewable energy technology. With the increasing knowledge and skills of partners, it is hoped that this innovation can contribute to sustainable circular economy-based waste management and open up opportunities for the development of green energy-based businesses at the community level.

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines healthy aging as the process of developing and maintaining functional abilities that enable well-being in old age. Aging describes the influence on cells at the biological level caused by the impact of the accumulation of various molecular and cellular damage over time. This leads to a gradual decline in physical and mental capacity, an increased risk of disease, and eventually death. One of the efforts of the physiotherapy program in conducting this activity aims to provide education and an elderly gymnastics program to raise awareness about the importance of physiotherapy and how to perform simple exercises at home, the presence of physiotherapists who can provide periodic services at the Posyandu, including evaluating physical conditions and providing interventions that are appropriate to the condition of the disease. The method used in this activity is to conduct counseling, education, and intervention, then the data is processed quantitatively. The results measured the quality of life using WHOQOL. The WHOQOL score before was 68.33+5.423 and afterward, it was 86.06+4.439, indicating an improvement in the quality of life after the elderly gymnastics program. Additionally, this activity resulted in several aspects, namely: 1) the elderly and their families became more aware of the importance of physiotherapy in maintaining physical health, 2) education on the benefits of physiotherapy and physical exercise, 3) a physical exercise program (in the form of elderly gymnastics), 4) the elderly participating in the program experienced an improved quality of life, 5) the elderly reported feeling more active, enthusiastic, and able to perform daily activities better, 6) the level of participation of the elderly in the program was high, indicating interest and need for the program, and 7) positive feedback from the elderly and their families regarding the benefits of the program for their health and well-being.

Abstract

Nutritional status is one of the important indicators in determining adolescent health. Poor eating patterns can disrupt body metabolism, affect appetite, and impact energy balance, thus potentially altering nutritional status. This study aimed to determine the relationship between eating patterns and nutritional status among female adolescents at SMK Negeri 8 Pekanbaru in 2025. This research employed an analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 184 female adolescents selected using a total sampling technique. Data on eating patterns were collected using a questionnaire, while nutritional status was measured based on Body Mass Index (BMI) according to WHO standards. Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately using the chi-square test with a significance level of 0.05. The findings showed a significant relationship between eating patterns and nutritional status among female adolescents at SMK Negeri 8 Pekanbaru. This means that adolescents with good eating patterns tend to have normal nutritional status, as proven by the research results with a p-value = 0.000 < 0.05. There is a significant relationship between eating patterns and nutritional status among female adolescents at SMK Negeri 8 Pekanbaru. Adolescents with poor eating patterns are more likely to have abnormal nutritional status.
