Abstract

Long beans are one of the strategic horticultural commodities in Indonesia. One of the important pests on long bean plants is the aphid Aphis craccivora Koch (Hemiptera: Aphididae). A. craccivora attacks long bean plants starting from the vegetative to generative phase. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the functional response of the predator Menochilus Sexmaculatus to the increased control of aphids A. craccivora and the functional response parameters “a” and “Th” on M. Sexmaculatus. This research was conducted in Dramaga, Bogor Regency. Based on the observation that the increase in the density of A. craccivora, the predation rate of A. craccivora by predators of M. sexmaculatus also increased, resulting in an increase in the functional response of M. sexmaculatus.

Abstract

Serangga penyerbuk merupakan salah satu layanan jasa ekosistem yang sangat penting bagi manusia maupun lingkungan dan berperan sebesar 35% dalam penyediaan sumber pangan dunia. Penelitian dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui komposisi dan kelimpahan serangga pengunjung bunga kedelai dan kacang tanah. Penelitian ini dilakukan Kampung Sawah baru, Desa Babakan, Kecamatan Dramaga, Kabupaten Bogor. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan, Megachile sp. (Hymenoptera: Megachilidae) merupakan serangga polinator yang paling banyak dijumpai kunjungannya terhadap bunga pertanaman kacang tanah dan kedelai.

Abstract

Botanical pesticides are pesticides derived from natural plant products that contain bioactive compounds such as secondary compounds. This compound can function as an inhibitor of development, reduces fertility, inhibits appetite (anti-feedant), repellent, attractant, has a direct effect as a poison and prevent and reduce put down the egg. Botanical insecticides are insecticides produced from plant extracts, which are obtained from various parts of plants such as flowers, fruit, seeds, leaves, stems and roots, which contain secondary metabolite compounds. Secondary metabolite compounds produced by plants include essential oils, alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, tannins, triterpenoids, steroids and saponins. Several lying plants that produce secondary metabolite compounds are good alternatives as a source of raw materials for vegetable insecticides because they are easy to obtain and do not require fertile soil to grow, including: Tinospora crispa (L.) Miers., Azadirachta indica (A.) Juss., Swietenia mahagoni and Annona squamosa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemakaian tepung ikan asin afkir dalam ransum berbasis jerami padi amoniasi terhadap pH dan VFA secara In-Vitro. Rancangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan 4 (empat) ransum perlakuan yaitu: R0 (Ransum + 2% tepung ikan komersil), R1 (Ransum + 2% tepung ikan asin afkir), R2 (Ransum + 3% tepung ikan asin afkir), R3 (Ransum + 4% tepung ikan asin afkir) dan 4 (empat) ulangan (kelompok). Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ransum perlakuan berpengaruh tidak nyata (P>0,05) terhadap pH dan total VFA. Nilai pH rumen berkisar antara 6,90 sampai 7,12 dan produksi VFA berkisar antara 87,50 sampai 105,00 mM. Dari hasil penelitian dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa pemakaian tepung ikan asin afkir pada persentase 3% dapat mempertahankan nilai pH dan meningkatkan konsentrasi VFA.

Abstract

Pangan adalah segala sesuatu yang berasal dari hasil pertanian, perikanan, perkebunan, peternakan, baik yang diolah maupun tidak diolah yang diperuntukkan sebagai makanan atau minuman. Konsumsi pangan yang bergizi tinggi, bervariasi dan seimbang merupakan hal yang sangat dibutuhkan oleh setiap orang, terutama pada anak-anak yang berada pada fase pertumbuhan. Akan tetapi, pangan yang bergizi, bervariasi dan seimbang saja tidaklah cukup, bahan pangan yang dikonsumsi harus dipastikan aman dari cemaran. Keamanan pangan merupakan aspek yang sangat penting dan dibutuhkan oleh masyarakat, karena diharapkan dengan mengkonsumsi makanan yang aman masyarakat dapat terlindungi dari berbagai penyakit atau gangguan kesehatan, serta dapat menyerap nutrisi yang terkandung pada makanan tersebut. Pemberian edukasi kepada orang tua mengenai pangan sehat dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengurangi risiko terjadinya kasus keracunan makanan. Kegiatan ini diawali dengan silaturahmi tim pengabdi ke Desa Bukit Harapan dalam rangka persiapan kegiatan pengabdian pemberian edukasi mengenai keamanan pangan di Desa Bukit Harapan, Kecamatan Gunung Meriah, Kabupaten Aceh Singkil. Kemudian, pelaksanaan kegiatan edukasi keamanan pangan yang berjudul Mengenalkan Pangan Sehat Sejak Dini: Pemahaman Pengolahan Pangan Sehat Bagi Orang Tua. Dalam materi yang disampaikan, tim pengabdi menyampaikan beberapa hal penting diantaranya tata cara pengolahan pangan yang baik, beberapa jenis bahan tambahan pangan yang diperbolehkan untuk ditambahkan pada bahan makanan, bahan berbahaya yang sering digunakan dalam makanan, serta pentingnya mengonsumsi makanan sehat bagi tumbuh kembang anak. Dengan adanya kegiatan ini, para orang tua mendapatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman dengan lebih baik mengenai keamanan pangan dan cara pengolahan pangan yang baik, sehingga para orang tua dapat menyajikan makanan yang aman, sehat dan bergizi seimbang untuk anak dan keluarga.

Callosobruchus chinensis L. (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) is a major storage pest of legumes that reduces seed quality, germination capacity, and causes yield losses of up to 30–50% during storage. Control strategies have generally relied on synthetic chemical insecticides, which may lead to resistance, hazardous residues, and adverse impacts on health and the environment. Therefore, botanical insecticides are considered a safer and more sustainable alternative. This review article was prepared through a systematic literature study by searching scientific publications from Google Scholar and Google Books using the keywords “botanical insecticide,” “plant extract,” “essential oil,” “pulse beetle,” and Callosobruchus chinensis. The findings indicate that several plants such as Neem (Azadirachta indica), Black Pepper (Piper nigrum), Custard Apple (Annona squamosa), Sweet Flag (Acorus calamus), Tuba Root (Derris elliptica), and Mexican Sunflower (Tithonia diversifolia) show great potential as botanical insecticides. Their active compounds, including azadirachtin, piperine, annonacin, β-asarone, rotenone, as well as alkaloids and flavonoids, act through multiple mechanisms, such as contact poison, stomach poison, antifeedant, repellent, and sterilant agents, effectively suppressing pest populations. The advantages of botanical insecticides include biodegradability, environmental safety, and the availability of abundant local resources, although limitations remain in terms of residual activity and consistency of effectiveness. Thus, botanical insecticides have the potential to be developed as an important component of environmentally friendly and sustainable Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies to protect stored commodities from losses caused by storage pests.

Abstract

The Pengulu Tribe in Limun District, Sarolangun Regency, Jambi Province, has long used the fruit of *Scaphium macropodum*—locally known as "merpayang" or "mempayang"—as a traditional medicine. *Scaphium macropodum* belongs to the Sterculiaceae family and has a broader distribution compared to its seven subspecies. This study investigates the ecology of *S. macropodum* to provide initial information on its use by the Pengulu Tribe, as well as the population and habitat conditions in Sarolangun Jambi's production forest. The study aims to estimate the population of *S. macropodum* in the forest and analyze the ecological factors influencing its habitat. Conducted between December 2023 and January 2024, the research utilized observation, interviews, and literature review methods, with data analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. Ecological factors were examined using the Importance Value Index (INP), diversity and evenness indices, community similarity index (Ward method), and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The study identified 47 species from 18 tree families within the *S. macropodum* habitat. The dominant species in two research sites, APL NM and HA DM, were *Shorea parviflora* (meranti). At HL DT and APL DM, the dominant species were *Shorea multiflora* (squirrel coconut) and *Canarium* sp. (mosquito legs). The Shannon-Wiener diversity analysis indicated moderate diversity and evenness across the four sites. APL NM and HA DM had significant community similarity (90.81%), while APL DM had a lower diversity index compared to the other sites.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Pengendalian hayati merupakan alternatif yang efektif untuk mengurangi dampak negatif penggunaan pestisida sintetis, seperti resistensi hama, resurgensi, munculnya hama sekunder, pencemaran lingkungan, residu pada produk pertanian, dan risiko terhadap kesehatan manusia. Salah satu agen pengendalian hayati yang potensial adalah Sycanus annulicornis (Hemiptera: Reduviidae), predator polifagus yang mampu memangsa berbagai jenis hama defoliator. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mempelajari lama pencarian dan penanganan mangsa oleh S. annulicornis terhadap Spodoptera frugiperda, serta menganalisis kemampuan pemangsaan predator ini pada kerapatan mangsa yang berbeda. Metode yang digunakan melibatkan pengamatan terhadap perilaku pemangsaan S. annulicornis pada kerapatan mangsa 5, 10, dan 15 ekor S. frugiperda. Parameter yang diamati meliputi waktu pencarian mangsa pertama dan kedua, waktu penanganan mangsa, serta jumlah mangsa yang dimangsa setelah 1, 3, dan 6 jam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kerapatan mangsa berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kemampuan predasi S. annulicornis. Semakin tinggi kerapatan mangsa, semakin cepat waktu pencarian dan semakin tinggi jumlah mangsa yang dimangsa. Pada kerapatan 5 dan 15 ekor, waktu pencarian mangsa pertama masing-masing adalah 7 dan 3 menit, fenomena serupa juga terjadi pada pencarian mangsa kedua.
