Abstract

(Salafi) secst in several Indonesian cities reflect a fundamental tolerance problem that endangers harmony and social stability in Indonesia's multicultural society. This study aims to explore ways to bridge differing perspectives on religious tolerance, which can serve as a solid foundation for the development of a peaceful and respectful Indonesian society, as well as to be prepared to encounter future problems of religious tolerance crisis. This research uses a systematic literature review method. Data collection is conducted through the examination of various written sources such as books, scientific articles, research journals, and documents relevant to the research topic. Data analysis is carried out by reviewing, comparing, and integrating information from various bibliographic sources to understand the root of the problem and formulate a comprehensive solution. Findings indicate that Aswaja and Salafi are Indonesia's two primary sects of Islam, with distinct approaches and ideas. Aswaja is more moderate, valuing ijtihad and scientific heritage, whilst Salafi is more literate, condemning heresy and local traditions. Differences in beliefs and convictions, identity politics, extremism, hoaxes, and the lack of tolerance education are factors of conflict between these two streams. Reconciliation efforts can be carried out by integrating local wisdom into interfaith dialogue, involving local figures in education and outreach, fostering collaboration between community-based regions, applying moderation values in social and religious activities, and developing educational programs that are sensitive to local diversity, and involving both the community and the government. The moderation of religious thought is very important in the contemporary era to create harmony and unity, counter extremist ideologies, support interfaith dialogue and social development, maintain the relevance of religious teachings, and promote social integration and diversity.

Abstract

The teaching of Maharah al-Kalam (speaking skills) at the Islamic Institute of Hamzanwadi Nahdlatul Wathan, East Lombok, faces various issues related to language interference. These challenges arise when students struggle to express ideas and thoughts spontaneously in Arabic due to the influence of their mother tongue (Indonesian) and regional languages. This study aims to deeply examine the issues of language interference in teaching Maharah al-Kalam at the Islamic Institute of Hamzanwadi Nahdlatul Wathan, East Lombok. It seeks to identify the forms of language interference occurring and analyze the underlying factors. The research employs a field research method with a qualitative approach, involving direct observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and analysis of student speech transcripts. The study reveals the complexity of linguistic challenges faced by students in mastering Arabic speaking skills. Language interference was identified in three dimensions: phonology, syntax, and vocabulary, driven by limited exposure to Arabic, traditional teaching methods, and the dominance of the mother tongue. The impacts of interference include a decline in students’ confidence and reduced quality of Arabic communication. To address these issues, the research proposes comprehensive solutions, such as developing practical teaching methods, raising linguistic awareness, employing a contrastive approach, and implementing intensive training techniques like drilling and role-playing.

Abstract

Islamic education is often faced with the dichotomy between preserving classical traditions and integrating modern science. KH. Hasyim Asy'ari responded to this challenge by developing an educational method that harmonized both, particularly at the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School. This research employs a hermeneutical, historical-analytical approach based on a literature review of his works and thoughts. The research results indicate that KH. Hasyim Asy'ari did not completely reject modernity, but rather synthesized traditional Islamic values with the demands of the times. The classical system is maintained through the teaching of yellow books and methods such as sorogan and bandongan, while reforms are made by incorporating general subjects like mathematics, history, and foreign languages. Learning methods also evolved to be more participatory, such as discussions and debates. The establishment of Madrasah Salafiyah is proof of the integration of religious and general education. In conclusion, KH. Hasyim Asy'ari successfully formulated an integrative and relevant model of Islamic education for the times.an integrative and relevant model of Islamic education for the times.

Abstract

Industrial Revolution 5.0 brings significant disruption in the field of science and technology, but at the same time, it presents new challenges related to the need for integration between technological advancement and humanitarian, spiritual, and Islamic values. The main issue in this research is the weak integration of Islamic values, particularly the values of Muhammadiyah's way of life, in the development of science and technology in that era. The objective of this research is to integrate Muhammadiyah’s life values, such as monotheism, enjoining good and forbidding wrong, noble character, respect for human dignity, and brotherhood, into the development of science and technology, as well as to analyze the role, contribution, and challenges of Muhammadiyah in this integration process. This study used a library research method with a qualitative approach. Data were collected from various primary and secondary authoritative literature sources. The data analysis techniques used were content, thematic, and critical analyses. The research results show that internalization is carried out by integrating the values of Muhammadiyah's way of life with science, technology, and Islamic values as a strategic foundation for addressing the challenges of the times. Through an integrative epistemological approach (bayani, burhani, and irfani) and the spirit of tajdid, Muhammadiyah has developed various innovations such as integrative education, digital preaching, environmentally friendly technology, big data-based management, computer and air conditioning innovations named ITMU (Innovationn Technology of Muhammadiyah), and the latest innovation, the Global Unified Hijri Calendar. Despite facing challenges such as the dichotomy of knowledge, resistance to change, concerns about losing traditional values, and the dominance of secular epistemology, Muhammadiyah remains committed to building a just, sustainable civilization rooted in divine values.

Abstract

Multicultural education in Indonesia requires an approach that can integrate values of tolerance and respect for religious and cultural differences.  One of the primary sources for building a strong foundation for multicultural education is the teachings in the Qur'an, especially Surah Al-Kafirun.  This research aims to analyze the values of religious tolerance contained in Surah Al-Kafirun and its relevance in building multicultural education.  The method used in this research is a library method with a content analysis approach.  This research examines the text of Surah Al-Kafirun in depth to identify values that can be applied in multicultural education, such as appreciation for differences, mutual respect, and recognition of religious freedom.  The research results show that Surah Al-Kafirun teaches the basic principles of religious tolerance, including respect for others' religious choices, acknowledging differences as part of God's will, and maintaining harmonious relationships despite differing beliefs.  In the context of multicultural education, this surah teaches values of respect for differences, an inclusive attitude, and the ability to resolve conflicts peacefully.  This surah-based learning model, such as the dialogic approach and collaborative projects, helps students understand diversity and strengthen interfaith cooperation.  In addition, this surah supports the strengthening of Indonesia's national identity by teaching the importance of unity in diversity.
