Abstract

ABSTRACT Islam is the majority religion in Indonesia and plays a central role in shaping the country's social, cultural and political landscape. With more than 230 million adherents or about 87% of the total population, Indonesia has the largest Muslim community in the world. This phenomenon is often identified through the term Islam Nusantara, which describes a distinctly Indonesian form of Islam. The concept emphasizes harmony, mutual cooperation and tolerance, while adhering to the core teachings of Islam. This article aims to discuss the dynamics of thought between two groups of Muslims in Indonesia: visual Muslims (traditional) and virtual Muslims (modern). The study explores how these two groups understand Islam Nusantara and construct their identities. The research approach is conducted through a structured literature study and includes important methodological steps to achieve the objectives of the analysis. The research reveals significant differences between the two groups. Visual (traditional) Muslims are more inclined towards preserving local traditions as the core of religious practice, while virtual (modern) Muslims tend to accept global influences and focus on innovation and renewal in understanding religion.

Abstract

Teachers' lack of understanding of neuroscience in learning has led to the emergence of neuromitos, which are misconceptions in distinguishing facts and myths related to brain function in the learning process. This study aims to (1) elaborate neuromitos in education and (2) explain the relationship between neuroscience literacy and professional understanding of learning and memory. The method used is descriptive qualitative research with a literature study approach. The results show that (1) lack of knowledge and high interest in neuroscience, without proper understanding, as well as inappropriate teaching strategies, contribute to the spread of neuromitos, and (2) teachers who have good neuroscience literacy and master effective teaching techniques are better able to recognize and eliminate neuromitos and implement evidence-based learning strategies.

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study is to deeply understand the role of the brain in the learning process, as well as identify various types of brain disorders that impact students' cognitive abilities. In addition, this study also aims to examine how certain neurological disorders, such as dyslexia, Minimal Brain Dysfunction, dyscalculia, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, affect students' academic performance and daily life. This research is expected to provide a neuroscientific perspective in designing learning strategies that are more inclusive and responsive to specific learning needs. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework is based on the neuroscience approach of education, specifically the concepts of brain plasticity, the function of the hemispheres, and the role of the central nervous system in learning. Literature review: The literature review covers brain development and function, as well as various disorders such as dyslexia, DMO, ADHD, and dyscalculia, which have a direct impact on learning ability. Methods: This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a literature review approach. The data was analyzed using content analysis from various scientific literature sources. Results: The results of the study show that brain function has a very important role in supporting the learning process. Connections between neurons are formed through experience and appropriate stimuli, while disturbances in brain structure or function can cause various difficulties in the learning process. Disorders such as Minimal Brain Dysfunction, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder significantly affect concentration, memory, and the ability to read, write, and count in school-age children. In addition, the dominance of left-brain or right-brain function also affects a person's learning style, so learning strategies need to be adjusted to the cognitive tendencies of each student. Implications: The results of this study encourage the importance of understanding neuroscience in education so that learning strategies can be adjusted to the neurological condition of students. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in the integration of neuroscience and Islamic educational approaches in understanding and dealing with learning disorders holistically and empathically.

Abstract

This article aims to explore the integration between neuroscience and Islamic education in order to formulate a model of modern Islamic education that is more effective, scientific, and deeply rooted in spiritual values. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, involving the examination of primary sources such as classical works of al-Ghazali and Ibn Sina, along with verses from the Qur’an and Hadith, which are analyzed alongside contemporary theories of neuroscience. Content analysis is used to identify key concepts, relevant neuroscientific principles applicable to learning processes, and to build an integrative foundation that bridges the two disciplines. A hermeneutic approach is also applied to interpret Islamic texts contextually. The findings indicate that this integration opens significant opportunities for developing a holistic and sustainable educational system. Core principles of neuroscience—such as neuroplasticity, emotional engagement in learning, multisensory instruction, and individualized learning—are highly relevant to Islamic educational concepts such as fitrah, ta’dib, tazkiyah, and tarbiyah. The intersection between these perspectives provides a robust conceptual foundation for curriculum development and learning strategies that are not only rational and empirical but also transcendental. Thus, this article offers a new framework for Islamic education aimed at nurturing intellectually excellent, spiritually mature, and socially adaptive generations.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how the human brain functions in cognitive processes such as thinking, reasoning, and decision-making. Theoretical framework: The research is grounded in a theoretical framework that integrates neuroscience and cognitive psychology, focusing on brain structure, neural networks, and the dynamics of neuroplasticity. Literature review: The literature review explores the interconnectivity between various parts of the brain, such as the cerebrum, cerebellum, brainstem, hippocampus, and amygdala, and their roles in memory, emotion, perception, and high-order cognitive tasks. Methods: Employing a qualitative method through library research, this study synthesizes data from academic books, journal articles, dissertations, and digital resources. A descriptive-analytical approach was used to organize and interpret findings across themes, including memory processing, brain development, thinking stages, and influencing factors such as emotion, nutrition, and environmental conditions. Results: The findings reveal that brain function and cognitive thinking are deeply interconnected. The brain processes information through electrical and chemical signals, stores it in short- or long-term memory, and enables the execution of thought processes through structured phases: perception, attention, understanding, reasoning, decision-making, and evaluation. Neuroplasticity plays a critical role in allowing the brain to adapt and learn continuously throughout life. Implications: The study implies that optimizing brain health directly enhances thinking capabilities, which is essential for personal growth, learning, adaptability, and innovation. Practical implications span across education, healthcare, and mental performance strategies. This research contributes to bridging the scientific gap between biological brain function and human thought processes, offering valuable insights for designing brain-friendly environments, promoting lifelong learning, and fostering mental well-being in the digital age. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in its multidisciplinary integration of neuroanatomy, behavioral science, and cognitive analysis, presented in a holistic and applicable manner.

Abstract

This study examines the construction of traditional and modernist Muslim identities in Indonesia within contemporary social, cultural, and religious contexts. The central problem of the research concerns how historical dynamics, education, modernization, and globalization have shaped the distinctive characteristics and interactions between these two groups. The objective of this study is to identify the defining features of each group, the factors influencing shifts in religious identity, and their respective contributions to the development of Islam in Indonesia. This research employs a library-based methodology with descriptive qualitative analysis, utilizing scholarly documents, academic literature, and historical sources as primary data. The research subjects include the social representations of traditional and modernist Muslim groups in Indonesia, particularly those affiliated with pesantren networks and modernist Islamic organizations across the archipelago. The findings indicate that traditional Muslims serve as custodians of religious tradition, cultural heritage, and spiritual continuity, whereas modernist Muslims function as agents of transformation through rationality, modern education, and reinterpretation of religious texts. The interaction between these two groups generates a dialectical process that enriches the diversity of Indonesian Islam while fostering the emergence of a more moderate, adaptive, and inclusive religious expression. The study concludes that these identity constructions complement one another in strengthening the dynamic, plural, and progressive development of Islam in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the cultural foundations of Muhammadiyah from the perspective of Progressive Islam (Islam Berkemajuan) through a library research approach. The study was conducted by examining scholarly literature published within the last ten years related to the cultural dynamics within the Muhammadiyah movement. The findings indicate that Muhammadiyah’s cultural foundation is an integral part of the purification and modernization processes that have been in place since the era of K.H. Ahmad Dahlan. The main findings reveal that the dialectic between normative theology and local culture has shaped a movement characterized by rationality, ethical values, and progressive orientation. Progressive Islam strengthens this dialectical pattern through three core principles: religious rationality, universal human ethics, and practical social engagement. This study fills a gap in previous research, which has not comprehensively examined the relationship between theology and culture within the framework of Progressive Islam. The implications of this article demonstrate that Muhammadiyah’s cultural foundation serves as an epistemological basis for developing an Islamic paradigm that is inclusive, moderate, and oriented toward civilizational advancement.
