Abstract

Dyspepsia is a syndrome of the upper gastrointestinal tract that can cause symptoms such as heartburn nausea and vomiting that can interfere with the patient's activities. Dyspepsia with mild symptoms can be treated by self-medication. This literature review was conducted to describe the knowledge and behavior of dyspepsia self-medication by the community. A literature review was conducted by searching databases through Google Scholar on the knowledge and behavior of dyspepsia self-medication in the community between 2022-2023 that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. 10 relevant articles were obtained where 6 studies stated that the community had good knowledge and behavior for dyspepsia self-medication, 2 studies showed good knowledge and poor behavior towards dyspepsia self-medication, 1 study showed a high level of community knowledge and fairly good behavior for dyspepsia self-medication however, there was no relationship between the two and 1 study that had poor knowledge but had good behavior towards dyspepsia self-medication. This indicates that good knowledge will not always be in line with good behavior, nor will good behavior always be in line with good knowledge

Abstract

Sargassum sp. contains bioactive compounds in the form of phenols that have the potential as sunscreen agents in the ultra category, namely 33.2 ± 3.11. The most commonly used formulation for sunscreen products is cream. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal concentration of glyceryl monostearate and triethanolamine as emulsifiers for Sargassum sp. extract cream, as well as to investigate the physical properties of the optimal Sargassum sp. extract cream formulation. Optimization of the cream formulation was carried out using the Simplex Lattice Design method with Design Expert 13 software, resulting in 8 formulations. The optimal formula obtained was then subjected to physical evaluation, including organoleptic evaluation, homogeneity, and emulsion type. Data analysis used the one-sample t-test method in SPSS version 25. The yield of Sargassum sp. extract was 7.37%. The optimization results showed that the optimal concentration was 7.6% glyceryl monostearate and 0.5% triethanolamine. The optimal cream formulation has good physical properties, namely a soft semi-solid texture, light green color, homogeneity, oil-in-water cream type, pH value of 7.64±0.03, viscosity of 7.626±261.02 cP, adhesive power of 4.37±0.06 seconds, and spreadability of 6.3±0.11 cm. The results of the one-sample t-test statistical analysis of the physical properties of the optimal formulation showed no significant difference from the predicted results, with a confidence level (p>0.05).

Abstract

Abstract

The tuberculosis (TB) vaccine contains a weakened form of the TB-causing agent. Currently, much research has focused on developing an effective and safe TB vaccine through genetic engineering. This review aims to analyze genetic engineering techniques in the production of tuberculosis (TB) vaccines. The analysis was conducted by gathering research data from various studies published between 2014-2024, available in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, using relevant keywords. Based on the literature review, several innovative methods in genetic engineering were identified, such as Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), in silico methods, multi-epitope vaccine development, and protein fusion-based vaccine development. Although there are challenges related to vaccine stability and clinical safety testing, innovations in genetic engineering technology hold the promise of significant progress in developing a more effective and durable TB vaccine. Among these methods, protein fusion-based and multi-epitope vaccines show the most promising potential in terms of effectiveness and long-lasting immune response.
