Abstract

BACKGROUND: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is an infectious disease that targets the human immune system by attacking cluster of differentiation (CD)4 cells. The use of propolis in HIV patients is expected to be safe and beneficial in terms of increasing endurance and immunity by its role in increasing CD4 level. This study aimed to analyze the influence of propolis supplementation in increasing the CD4 level in anti-retroviral (ARV)-treated HIV patients.METHODS: Double-blind randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted in 50 HIV patients who took regular ARV therapy. The subjects were divided into two groups, one group was treated with ARV and propolis, while another one was given ARV and placebo. The CD4 cell count was measured during pre-treatment, in the 3rd month, in the 6th month after treatment. The level of hemoglobin, leukocyte, and platelets were also measured. The SF-12 questionnaire was used to evaluate quality of life of the subject.RESULTS: Out of 50 subjects, 43 subjects completed the study, which were 19 subjects from the propolis group and 24 subjects from the placebo group. After 3-month of treatment, there was a statistically significant difference in the increase of CD 44 level in propolis group, while the increment was not significant in the placebo group. After 6-month treatment, the increase of CD4 level was occurred in both groups, propolis and placebo, however the increment was not statistically significant. The levels of hemoglobin, leukocyte, and platelets were not altered by the treatment and remained normal throughout the study. The quality of life was improved during the study; however, it was also not statistically significant. Mild adverse events occurred in 3 subjects which were relieved after the treatment stopped.CONCLUSION: Based on the result of this study, the administration of propolis on HIV patients receiving ARV bring significant difference in the increase of CD4 in propolis group from baseline to 3 month after the treatment. While in placebo group, this increment was not significant. At the end of study, CD4 count continued to rise up, however the increase was not statistically significant. There are no hemoglobin, leukocyte, platelets, and quality of life abnormalities. Therefore, it is necesary to do further research with a spesific CD4 count. However, it may be beneficial in relieving the clinical symptoms and quality of life of patient living with HIV.KEYWORDS: CD4, ARV, HIV, propolis

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is still one of the major health problems in the world, especially in countries with dense populations. Indonesia is listed among the top three countries with the highest burden of tuberculosis worldwide. The low coverage of case detection in Indonesia is one of the reasons for ineffective TB control. Therefore, this disease remains a threat to spread in today's Indonesian society. Digital technology can be used to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of case detection. This study aims to create a new paradigm for detecting new cases of tuberculosis using a self-assessment website-based application. Methods: This descriptive quantitative research used univariate analysis. Respondents for this research were sampled from all East Java people who filled out the E-TIBI application. Result: In total, there were 4,658 E-TIBI users in East Java, with 20.80% suspected of tuberculosis. The most frequent symptoms found in the respondents were fatigue, cough for > 2 weeks, and weight loss. Discussion: A self-assessment paradigm based on digital technology was applied to the design of this E-TIBI application. From this application, the public can quickly determine whether they or others are suspected of having tuberculosis. This result shows that the whole community can easily access the E-TIBI application for initial tuberculosis screening. Conclusion: Through this application, direct community participation can increase the detection of new cases to support the government and WHO programs in eliminating tuberculosis by 2030.

Abstract

The digital transformation of health is one proof of technological developments in health services. The implementation of health digitalization in the Surabaya City environment has started on November 10 2014 and in 2020 it will be ready to transform into an Electronic Health Record (EHR). The implementation of EHR began with the implementation of RME at Surabaya City Health Centers since March 2022. However, RME implementation is still not optimal, so research needs to be carried out on the completeness of RME at East Surabaya Regional Health Centers. This research method uses a type of quantitative research that collects data in the form of numbers using an observational approach. The population used is RME patients at Community Health Centers in the East Surabaya Region, namely Menur Health Center and Keputih Health Center, while the research sample will be taken using the Cochran Formula. The results of the identified data will be processed using Microsoft Excel for quantitative analysis and will be presented in table form to describe the object. The results of the research show that incomplete filling in of patients' RME at the East Surabaya Community Health Center General Polyclinic is found in the Identity, Important Reports and Authentication components, while the Documentation component is 100% complete. It can be concluded that the incompleteness of RME filling at the East Surabaya Community Health Center reaches 70%, the data is not complete.
