Abstract

This study is grounded in the condition that teachers rarely use audiovisual media in the learning process, which causes students to frequently experience difficulties in mastering biographical texts. The study aims to describe the biographical text writing skills of Phase E students at SMK Negeri 1 Painan, Pesisir Selatan Regency, through the use of audiovisual media. This research employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. The population consisted of 106 students, while the sample was determined using purposive sampling. The findings show that the overall ability to write biographical texts with audiovisual media support was classified as good (G), with a mean score of 76.40, falling within the 76–85% range on the 10-point scale. More specifically, the indicators reveal that pronoun use was classified as good (G) with a mean score of 84.37 (76–85%), action verbs were classified as excellent (E) with a mean score of 97.91 (96–100%), and adjectives were classified as more than adequate (MTA) with a mean score of 70.15 (66–75%). Abstract

This study was motivated by the absence of item analysis for the Indonesian Language End-of-Semester Assessment (PAS) for the 2024/2025 academic year, so the quality of the test items in terms of validity, reliability, difficulty level, discrimination power, and distractor effectiveness was unknown. The study aimed to analyze the quality of the PAS items and to identify whether the items were too easy or too difficult and whether they could differentiate between students who had mastered the content and those who had not. A descriptive quantitative method was employed. The data consisted of the test papers and students’ answer sheets from the odd-semester PAS 2024/2025. Students’ responses were tabulated by option choice and analyzed using measurement theory, covering item validity, test reliability, item difficulty, item discrimination, and distractor effectiveness. The results showed that in Package A, 7 items were valid (70%) and 3 were invalid (30%); the reliability was moderate (0.620); difficulty levels were dominated by the medium category (7 items; 70%) and easy category (3 items; 30%); discrimination indices were good to very good for 7 items (70%), but 3 items (30%) were poor; and all distractors were good to very good (100%). In Package B, 8 items were valid (80%) and 2 were invalid (20%); reliability was high (0.843); difficulty levels were dominated by easy items (6 items; 60%) and medium items (4 items; 40%); discrimination indices were good to very good for 7 items (70%), with 3 items (30%) in the fair to poor range; and distractors were good to very good for 9 items (90%), while 1 item (10%) had poor distractors. The study recommends revising or replacing invalid items and items with low discrimination, balancing item difficulty—especially in Package B—and conducting routine item analysis before reusing the test.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze seventh-grade students’ difficulties in writing poetry and their implications for Indonesian language instruction at SMP Negeri 1 Siberut Utara, Kepulauan Mentawai Regency. The research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The participants were seventh-grade students. Data were collected through a poetry-writing test. Data trustworthiness was strengthened through triangulation. Poetry analysis used a modified rubric adapted from Nurgiyantoro (2016), covering four assessment aspects: diction, imagination, figurative language, and theme. The findings indicate that students experienced difficulties across all four aspects. In terms of diction, difficulties were reflected in inaccurate word relationships and less engaging word choices. Regarding imagination, students were not yet able to develop imagery and poetic visualization adequately. For figurative language, students faced obstacles in using figures of speech as a distinctive feature of poetry. With respect to theme, students had difficulty determining a clear and consistent theme. The study recommends more structured poetry-writing instruction focusing on diction selection, imagery development, figurative language use, and theme determination, supported by the use of model poems, concrete examples, and specific feedback for each assessment aspect.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the widespread use of sarcastic language on social media, particularly Twitter, as a form of public expression in conveying criticism, satire, and dissatisfaction toward certain events or individuals. The use of sharp and impolite sarcasm indicates a shift in language ethics in digital communication. This study aims to describe the types of sarcastic language styles found in posts and comments on the Twitter accounts @tubirfess, @AREAJULID, and @Lambe_Turah. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The object of this study was sarcastic language style, while the data sources consisted of posts and netizen comments from the three Twitter accounts collected from July to October 2024. The data were collected through documentation, reading, and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed by identifying, classifying, describing, and drawing conclusions about the types of sarcasm based on Elizabeth Camp’s theory, namely propositional sarcasm, lexical sarcasm, sarcasm introduced by the word “like,” and illocutionary sarcasm. The results show that there were 74 instances of sarcasm. The most dominant type was propositional sarcasm, with 32 data, followed by illocutionary sarcasm with 22 data and lexical sarcasm with 20 data, while sarcasm introduced by the word “like” was not found. These findings imply that Twitter has become a space for critical expression that frequently employs sarcastic language, highlighting the need for more polite and responsible language awareness in digital communication.
