Abstract

This study examines the comparative advantages of agricultural products from highland and lowland areas in South Sumatra Province using the Location Quotient (LQ) method. The research aims to identify specific commodities that dominate each region and evaluate their potential for regional economic development. Data were collected from agricultural production reports, regional economic statistics, and field surveys. The LQ analysis reveals the agricultural specialization in both highland and lowland regions. Highland areas primarily focus on plantation crops such as coffee and tea, while lowland areas excel in rice production and horticulture. The results indicate that highland commodities have a high LQ value, reflecting their contribution to the regional economy and export potential. Conversely, lowland commodities showcompetitive advantages in meeting local demand and supporting food security. This comparative analysis highlights the importance of tailoring agricultural policies to the unique characteristics of each region. Strategies such as infrastructure development, market access improvement, and sustainable farming practices can enhance productivity and competitiveness. The findings also emphasize the need for diversification and value-added processing to increase income and reduce economic vulnerability in both highland and lowland areas.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of income level and intention on food waste. In addition, analyzing economic losses due to food waste. The study was conducted in Sleman Regency in 2023. The number of respondents used was 40 respondents who managed food consumption in the household. Sampling was carried out using simple random sampling for 2 weeks. The analysis method used is a descriptive method to explain the current phenomenon related to food waste in Sleman Regency. The data analysis method used for the first purpose is to use a simple regression analysis method which is analyzed using eviews 12. The second purpose uses excel to calculate economic losses, while energy and carbohydrate losses are calculated using nutrisurvey 2007. The results of the study showed that household income levels and the intention to avoid food waste affect the level of food waste. During one year, the loss caused by food waste reached IDR 201,600 per year. Efforts to avoid the level of food waste can be done through socialization and campaigns for public awareness regarding consumer attitudes towards food ingredients and how to manage leftover food waste.

Abstract

The effectiveness of farmer group institutions (Gapoktan) plays a critical role in enhancing the resilience and sustainability of rice farming systems. This study aims to examine the key factors influencing farmers’ adoption of sustainable farming practices, evaluate the institutional effectiveness of farmer groups (Gapoktan), and examine the relationship between institutional effectiveness and the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices among rice farmers. The research was conducted from March to May 2025 using a purposive sampling method involving 30 rice farmers as respondents. Data were collected through surveys using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive, correlation (Spearman Rank), and binary logit methods. The results show that enthusiasm and responsibility of the farmer group leader in the process of implementing sustainable agriculture have a statistically significant effect. Findings reveal that Gapoktan in Ulak Petangisan plays a significant role not only in facilitating the distribution of production inputs but also in fostering communication, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing among farmers. However, institutional performance remains suboptimal, with most indicators categorized as moderately effective, and some aspects such as marketing support and price stabilization classified as less effective. There is a significant relationship between the institutional effectiveness of farmer groups (Gapoktan) and the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. The study highlights the need for strengthening institutional capacity in strategic areas to enhance the transition toward sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem in Sungsang IV Village, South Sumatra has degraded mainly due to climate change. To address this, a strategy for managing and conserving mangrove ecotourism is needed, emphasizing the role of tourists in generating economic value. Willingness to Pay (WTP) is an approach that can be used to measure economic value based on tourists' willingness to pay as an effort to develop mangrove ecotourism. The Contingent Valuation Model (CVM) in assessing WTP is used to project the economic value of the environment, especially benefits that are not available in the market. Factors that influence tourist WTP can be identified by binary logistic regression analysis. The average WTP value of mangrove ecotourism tourists is IDR 17,333 or IDR 17,500 per tourist per four months or IDR 52,500 per tourist per year. Factors that significantly influence WTP are age and cost of getting to the location. One strategy that can be done for the development of mangrove ecotourism in Sungsang IV Village is to utilize programs to overcome climate change in developing mangrove ecotourism. This study’s findings will help policy makers in promoting mangrove conservation and enhaching local community livelihoods.

Abstract

Pineapple leaf waste (PALW) is often perceived as an agricultural by-product with limited utility and lacking economic value. This study pioneers the evaluation of added value from pineapple leaf waste in Prabumulih. It explores innovative strategies for developing the Wiwa Producer Cooperative using the Hayami method and SWOT analysis. The findings reveal that all processed products, such as woven fabric and cloths, derived from pineapple leaf waste generated a high and profitable value-added ratio. A key strength factor is that the Miwa Pineapple Producer Cooperative is a pioneer of pineapple leaf processing in Prabumulih. However, significant weaknesses include limited human resources and capital, while opportunities exist in promotional events, and threats arise from the lengthy production process. The cooperative adopts an aggressive strategy, emphasising market penetration, market development, and product innovation through the Strengths-Opportunities (S-O) approach. The findings underline the economic potential of pineapple leaf waste as a sustainable resource, offering a pathway to rural economic empowerment and environmental conservation. This study provides actionable strategies for policymakers and cooperative leaders to enhance competitiveness, foster innovation, and promote sustainable practices in the agricultural sector. By participating in broader promotional events, maintaining product quality, expanding market reach, and innovating product offerings, the cooperative can ensure sustainable growth and contribute to the circular economy.
