Abstract

This study critically explores how moral values are incorporated and communicated in the primary school English textbooks “My Next Words Grades 3 and 4.” Using a qualitative research approach, the study applies Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to examine both textual and visual components of the textbooks. The objective is to uncover the moral ideologies embedded in the content and assess how these values correspond with broader cultural and educational goals. By analyzing linguistic elements, stories, and images, the study identifies recurring themes such as respect, empathy, and responsibility, while also revealing implicit messages related to cultural norms and social hierarchies. The findings indicate that while the textbooks effectively promote moral education, some portrayals perpetuate stereotypes and fail to include diverse viewpoints. This research enhances our understanding of the connection between language learning and moral development, offering valuable insights for curriculum developers and educators aiming to create more inclusive and ethically enriching educational materials.

Abstract

Personalization in learning management system (LMS) is important as a learning environment to adjust the learning experience to the individual needs of students. This research and development aims to develop and implement an adaptive Learning Management System (LMS) for the Microteaching and Reflective Practice course at FKIP Untag Banyuwangi. This LMS is designed to personalize students' learning experiences according to individual needs, increasing the effectiveness and relevance of teaching. Microteaching gives prospective teachers the opportunity to practice teaching on a small scale, while reflective practice encourages them to analyze and improve teaching methods. The use of LMS allows students to study independently before face-to-face classes and reflect on their learning more deeply. This research and development focuses on creating a personalized learning environment using adaptive techniques that are valid and feasible to use as a student learning environment. This research and development uses the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model to develop learning resources that can be accessed according to student needs. The results of the study indicate that the adaptive LMS developed is valid and feasible to use as a learning environment for the Microteaching and Reflective Practice course. This LMS effectively facilitates personalization of learning and supports reflection and improvement of student teaching skills.

Abstract

This study investigates how intrinsic and extrinsic motivation affect the reading performance of third-grade EFL students at Al Kautsar Putra Secondary School. Using a qualitative approach, data were gathered from questionnaires, interviews, and academic records. The questionnaire, with "agree" or "disagree" options, assessed students’ motivation toward reading English texts. Ten randomly chosen students also participated in interviews. Findings showed that 70% were mainly influenced by extrinsic factors such as grades, rewards, and teacher expectations. However, some students demonstrated intrinsic motivation, enjoying the reading process and feeling satisfied when understanding texts independently. Interview data revealed a mix of motivations, with peer and teacher support playing key roles. Institutional support, such as structured activities and social reinforcement, was found to significantly boost motivation and reading growth. These supports also improved students’ confidence in speaking English. Consistent academic progress in reading scores from Grade 7 to Grade 9 further confirmed that motivation, supported by continuous instruction, positively impacts language learning outcomes.

Abstract

Developing the teaching competence of pre-service teachers requires feedback that is effective, timely, and continuous. Microteaching is a required course where student teachers design and practice lessons, although it often faces problems because feedback from lecturers is limited by time and resources. To solve this, the study created an adaptive Learning Management System (LMS) with peer-assessment features. This research used the ADDIE model, which included assessing needs, designing the system, creating prototypes, implementing the model, and evaluating the results. The results show that the adaptive LMS had a positive impact on student learning. Based on feasibility criteria, most students rated the system “Valid,” with an average score of 80.8%. Peer feedback, collaboration, and reflection were the main strengths, while active participation still needed small improvements. Students found the LMS easy to use, though some had difficulties at first with the instructions. Overall, the system was practical, effective, and ready to use, with only minor changes required. This study demonstrates that an adaptive LMS with peer-assessment can enhance feedback, support reflection, and strengthen teaching skills in microteaching courses.
