Abstract

This study was aimed at processing empirical data to know the realization e-book program in EFL teaching and learning process as reflected by English teachers of Islamic Junior High School (MTs) in Indonesia. It is a descriptive research of which the approach is a cross sectional survey. The result of this study was expected to be the basis for the government to re-evaluate the implementation of the national project of School Electronic Books (BSE). Based on the result of data analysis, the program of e-books should be revised as considering several factors affecting its insufficient use by the EFL teachers of MTs. The use of E-book in teaching and learning in Indonesia EFL classroom had been beyond the teachers’ outlook. It revealed that e-book and its advantages were not well recognized by many teachers of MTs in Indonesia because of lack awareness of rapid growth of technology and information in this case the use of internet.Keywords: e-book, teaching and learning, program, implementation

Abstract

This study investigates the reading habit and preferences of the Student Teachers studying in their first year at the graduate school in Malang. Although with the advance of technology, media and many factors influencing reading habits and their preferences, the subjects of the study still have good reading habit and positive attitude towards reading activities. To collect the data, the researcher employs the questionnaire with 40 items adapted from a similar research. The items were designed for evaluating reading habits, general attitudes towards reading, and reading preferences of the students. As a result of the study, it is shown that more than half of the students like reading in leisure time and consider it as indispensable part of their lives.

Abstract

Abstract: Teachers’ quality plays a paramount role in the improvement of quality of education. A way to ensure high quality teachers is through effective continuous professional development for teachers. This present study is aimed to explore how the EFL teachers develop their professionalism particularly in terms of pedagogical and professional competencies. The result shows that there are three main themes of professional development pursuits of EFL teachers comprising of self-initiated or individual, institutional, and non-institutional professional development activities.  Keywords: continuing professional development, EFL teachers, pedagogical competency, professional (subject matter) competency

Abstract

Abstract: Listening is considered as the most important skill and it is role as the beginning of the other skills. However, many students faced difficulties to master listening because they lack of vocabulary and students less pay attention. In this research was used VOA news video. Therefore, the objective of this research including 1) How is the effectiveness of using VOA news video on students listening ability? and 2) How is the student’s perception on the use of VOA news video on students listening ability?. This research is quasi experimental, The population of the research is all students of SMAN 1 Babakan 2017/2018, the sample are students of X IPA 1 consists of 36 students and X IPA 2 consists of 35 students. The instrument of this research is test; pre-test and post-test and questionnaire. The research findings showed that there is an effect from pre-test and post-test score in experimental class after being taught through VOA news video. The mean score of pre-test is 60,42 and the post-test is 87,14. The hypothesis test showed the significant score of regression was 0,000 because of significant score < 0,05 and t count (4,168) > t table (2,03452) thus, H0 rejected means that there is effect using VOA news video in students listening ability. In addition, the perception of the students, most of students responded agree of VOA news video as media teaching listening. Therefore, VOA news video is recommended as a media to be used by English teachers to teaching listening ability. Keywords: VOA News Video, Media, Teaching Listening Ability.

Abstract

This study aims to identify several comparisons of lifelong learning concepts and models for older adults to remain active and productive. The method employed in this study is a literature review investigating research articles from the internet using the Science Direct, Google Scholar, and Research gate sites. Details of the search strategy for article eligibility using the PRISMA format (Identification, Screening, Eligibility, Included). The analysis of selected research articles' reveals that older adults' education concepts and models in developed countries are more well established and concerned. The model of older adults' education in demand has religious, spiritual, and spiritual dimensions. The appropriate model is entirely rational due to closely related to the local wisdom of the Indonesian people. The majority of studies conducted show the need for support from stakeholder policies. The support from the community and family is still quite dominant, so that the potential of the elderly population who are still productive, independent, and contributive to society is necessary

Abstract

This research discusses the use of Busuu app as a learning platform for English listening skills in junior high schools in Cirebon. The research focuses on the importance of media use in language teaching and the role of media in creating a conducive learning environment. It also explores the theoretical basis of language skills, learning media and the use of Busuu app to teach English listening skills. This researchers used qualitative methods, precisely descriptive qualitative. The purpose of this study to obtain students' views on the use of the Busuu application as a learning platform, to determine student achievement in learning through the Busuu application as a listening learning media and to find out the advantages and disadvantages of the Busuu application. The data source of this research is the documentation of the learning process. The text is taken from the results of interviews with students and teachers of class VIII. The instrument of this research is the researcher himself. In addition, other instruments used by researchers are documentation, interview transcripts, audio recordings, and documents. The results showed that, (1) The use of media in learning is one of the efforts to provide quality in supporting the learning process and can encourage students to take part in learning activities in a fun way. (2) The Busuu application is an application specifically designed to support web-based English language learning and is also available as a mobile application and is one of the main alternatives that is very easy to access. (3) The Busuu application has advantages and disadvantages of the Busuu Application. So, it can be concluded that the Busuu application directly has a positive influence on SMP N 1Lemahabang students.

Abstract

Speaking is one of the most important skills that students must have, but every studenthas a different capability to speak English. After COVID-19, there have been many changes;the learning system that was previously online has returned to being offline. This study aimsto find out the strategies the teacher used for students’ self-confidence in speaking English atjunior high school in Cirebon. It was carried out to gather data on the reasons why studentshave difficulty speaking in the post-pandemic era as well as the methods teachers use to teachspeaking to help students gain more confidence speaking English. Three methods ofgathering data were used in this study's qualitative research design, which is presented as acase study: observation, interview, and documentation. Three English teachers were thesubjects of this study. The information acquired from classroom observations wassupplemented with data from interviews. All of the data were analyzed using three majorphases of analysis: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. Theresults of this study revealed there are four strategies that used by teacher for studentsconfidence in speaking English after pandemic era, these strategies are Discussion, Role-play,Picture Describing, and Modelling. The researchers found problems experienced by studentsin learning English speaking after the pandemic, there are lack of vocabulary, lack ofawareness to learn, lack of practice, and gadget addiction. The researcher also found ways forteachers to overcome problems experienced by students, including giving motivation, givingappreciation, using interesting teaching strategies, taking an emotional approach to students,and the last is giving additional time.Keywords: Teachers Strategies, Speaking Skill, Students Confidence, Post-Pandemic

Abstract

This research was conducted to explore some of the probable issues encountered by pre-service English teachers when conducting teaching practicum (PPL) activities at schools. The research focuses on (1) how do the practitioners practice their language skills (English) and pedagogical competencies to teach at schools while conducting their teaching practicum? (2) what obstacles or challenges do they encounter during PPL at schools? The researcher employed questionnaires and interviews involving PPL practitioners, teachers and field supervisors to explore the problems faced by the practitioners. The research findings reveal that there are several potential obstacles encountered by practitioners while conducting PPL at schools. The interesting Issues revealed problems accentuating the teaching planning process, pre-teaching activities, core activities and post-teaching activities. The results of this study are indeed valuable for pre-service English teachers as evaluative paces to improve their teaching competencies and English language skills in carrying out PPL activities at schools to be professional English teachers.

Abstract

This descriptive research aimed to analyze and describe the learners profile of Senior High School students at A Private Senior High School Cirebon in the academic 2022/2023. The subject of this study is the tenth grade students of Senior High School Cirebon. There were 4 students and 1 English teacher who were choosen as the subject of the study. Interview and literature review technique was applied in determining the subject. In order to collect the data for this study, the interviewed by face to face directly to find out how many characteristics Learners Profile their have in 21st century and find out the factors students have to make them successful as English students in 21st century. The research finding show that students get six characteristics of Learners Profile such as students have critical thinking, collaboration, a good communication, have creativity skill, have innovation think and their have own self-direction. To be a successfull English students must have grow a sense of motivation within yourself, have supportive learning community surround them and students uses media technology in learning English.

Abstract

The tracer study conducted by the English Language Teaching Department (ELTD) serves as a pivotal initiative that is aimed at assessing the efficacy of teaching and learning within ELTD at IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon. This comprehensive study endeavors to scrutinize and delve into various facets, including performance and the employability of graduates from tertiary institutions (Higher Education), particularly those from the ELTD at IAIN Syekh Nurjati, upon entering the workforce. It is aimed to gauge the relevance of both hard and soft skills possessed by ELTD graduates, as well as the competencies acquired during their tenure at ELTD. The achievement of graduates in their respective workplaces serves as a significant benchmark for assessing learning outcomes and their alignment with the vision and mission of the English Language Teaching Department at IAIN Syekh Nurjati, both for stakeholders and the broader community. In conducting this research, online questionnaires (utilizing Google Forms) were distributed to alumni and stakeholders, supplemented by in-depth interviews to validate the questionnaire data. The findings of this study shed light on various crucial aspects concerning alumni, particularly regarding the timeliness of job acquisition and the degree of alignment between their fields of work and educational backgrounds.
