Abstract

Latar   belakang: Kegiatan   pengabdian   masyarakat   ini   dilatar belakangi  oleh  minimnya penguasaan kosakata pada siswa tingkat SD Tujuan: Pengabdian  Masyarakat  ini  bertujuan  untuk  meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata dengan metode Total Physical Response pada murid SD dan dilakukan luring pada tanggal 02 September 2023 Metode:  Metode yang digunakan berupa pengajaran dan pelatihan pengucapan kosakata bahasa Inggris dengan mengimplementasi Total Physical Response. Pada tahap awal, mereka mendapat pengenalan kosakata berupa kata kerja aktif (active verbs). Lalu mereka diajarkan cara melafalkan tiap kata kerja tersebut. Setelah mereka sudah bisa mengucapkan dengan baik, lalu dilanjutkan dengan implementasi metode TPR. Hasil:  Didapatkan dari hasil pelatihan kosakata ini, hampir para siswa SD mampu memahami instruksi dan memperagakannya kedalam sebuah gerakan yang merujuk ke kata kerja (verb). Mereka juga mampu menjawab latihan soal tertulis terkait dengan kata kerja yang sesuai dengan topik pengajaran. Kesimpulan: Dari penggunaan Metode Total Physical Response yang digunakan, terlihat sangat baik dalam memberikan semangat belajar Bahasa Inggris yang menyenangkan sehingga mereka dapat melakukan dengan baik dari tiap instruksi dan dari tiap latihan soal yang terjawab dengan tepat. Respon sangat baik juga ditunjukkan oleh RT setempat melihat kegiatan ini dan juga para orangtua yang melihat pelatihan ini. Semoga sampai seterusnya para siswa di desa Panunggangan Barat Tangerang dapat mempraktekkan kosakata mereka lebih aktif lagi.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the subject and verb writing errors made by students majoring in English Education at Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang when they complete paragraphs in verb form. Error analysis technique was conducted in this study to find the errors faced by the students in terms of present tense, identify the types of errors as well as the sources of errors. This study is descriptive research with 10 students participating in this study. The data of this study were collected from 1) students' writings focusing on students' sentences containing subject-verb agreement errors, and 2) interviews obtained from the students. The findings of this study are as follows: Subject and verb errors made by students cover form of information, omission, and addition errors, while from the point of view of linguistic categorization, the errors made by students are in the form of using singular plural nouns placed as subjects, improper use of verbs, and improper use of verbal and nominal sentences in making present tense sentences. The analyzed data also shows that students' errors in subject-verb agreement are classified as local errors. The cognitive strategies were chosen by them in comprehending the grammar

Abstract

Grammar seems to be an unavoidable challenge for most learners, especially when it comes to acquiring Active to Passive Voice. Active sentences are sentence patterns where the subject does work, and passive sentences are sentence patterns where the subject accepts work. This is a difficult time for English Education students at Muhammadiyah University, Tangerang. The purpose of this research is to find out students' challenges in learning Active to Passive Voice and how they deal with these problems. The selected participants were 12 students from the Intermediate English Grammar Class of 2022. The research method used was qualitative. Data collection was carried out through tests and interviews. The data shows that students have three major difficulties in changing Active to Passive Voice such as placing subjects and objects, using auxiliary verbs, and determining past participles. In addition, two strategies are used by students to overcome learning obstacles. Through understanding formulas to help them master active and passive learning and doing a lot of active and passive exercises to help them better understand the active and passive material.

Abstract

Kegiatan ini diperuntukkan kepada guru-guru di SDN Poris Pelawad  Cipondoh Tangerang dalam rangka memanfaatkan waktu pandemik guna meningkatkan kualitas pengajaran dan pembelajaran di kelas. Hal ini dirasa sangat penting demi menjaga keprofesionalan guru dalam mempersiapkan perangkat pembelajaran di kelas yang efektif dan mengikuti perkembangan zaman. Dari output kegiatan telah dapat mengupgrade kemampuan para guru dalam pemanfaatan dan pengembangkan bahan ajar berbasis digital yang interaktif yang berkontribusi terhadap pembelajaran yang menjadi lebih inovatif.

Abstract

Listening comprehension is an essential component of language learning, particularly for non-native English speakers. Films, one of the most popular multimedia formats among Generation Z, to help their listening abilities. This study aims to identify Generation Z by using the movie Fast n Furious: Fast X in listening skills and find out the factors that influence Generation Z's perceptions of using the movie Fast n Furious: Fast X in learning English to listening. This research uses qualitative approach with some instruments of the research such as; interviews, observation, listening tests, and documentation. For the sample taken by the researcher, there were 15 respondents, and the basis taken in choosing the sample was Generation Z whose age range was from 16-25 years. For the number of interviews the researcher gave, there were 10 questions. In addition, in collecting this data, researchers conducted observations for 2 weeks. The results of the research on movie usage show that, for Generation Z, watching Fast & Furious: Fast X is essential for improving listening skills as it can help children's character development. In addition, the movie can support students' understanding of different languages and contextual learning approaches. How Generation Z considers using Fast & Furious: Fast X to learn English through listening is revealed by the research findings on the perceptual element with the movie. Almost 100% of the participants said that the movie provided more scenarios and imaginative ways to learn the language while acquiring English. Watching the movie can help viewers become more proficient listeners as some of the jargon used in the dialog is straightforward and every day. Keywords: Perception, Generation’s Z, Film, Fast n Furious: Fast X, Listening Comprehension

Abstract

This study aims to explore the cognitive processes involved in reading text english and examine the factors influencing high school students’ reading strategies at Suntisart School Thailand.  A qualitative research approach was employed, involving semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and a review of students' reading activities. The study focused on senior high school students, observing their performance in decoding, fluency, and comprehension tasks during reading sessions. Interviews were conducted to uncover the students' thinking patterns and strategies for tackling reading challenges text english.  The data collected from the interviews and classroom observations were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman framework, which includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results found that more proficient readers applied strategies such as summarizing, making inferences, and reflecting on the text, which contributed to their understanding and retention of information. Additionally, students who struggled with reading often relied on external support from teachers or peers to manage their cognitive processes. The study concludes that students' ability to regulate their cognitive strategies plays a crucial role in their reading success and suggests that a combination of self-regulation and external guidance is essential for improving reading skills.

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of the research is to outline the values found from Shah Rukh Khan’s speech at the University of Edinburgh’s New College in 2015. This study employs a descriptive and qualitative methodology, drawing on Hornby’s moral values theory to determine the form of values in each sentence, phrase, and clause that Shah Rukh Khan lectured. The result showed that there were 6 of the 11 types of moral values captured. The six kinds of moral values have been established by this study cover thankfulness, bravery, humbleness, kind-hearted, steadfastness, and love and affection. The most dominant values captured in Shah Rukh Khan’s speech is bravery, captured in 5 utterances. Keywords: Speech, Moral, Values, Analysis

Abstract

In the world of education, there are still some educators who have not implemented learning methods according to learning needs. This is due to the lack of teacher knowledge about teaching and learning techniques. The study aims to provide a reference for learning methods for teachers in the hope that educational goals will be achieved properly. This study uses the Kung Fu Panda film as a research object to analyze its learning methods so that it can be used as a reference or source for teachers out there. This study uses qualitative research design and content analysis techniques to describe messages or information in film clips that are relevant to the methods in the Kung Fu panda film, namely Interest-based learning, Demonstration learning, Drill learning, and Experiential learning. All methods are used to shape the character of Po and his other students into wise and intelligent people. The results of the study show that the techniques applied are in accordance with the main goal of education, namely guiding students to become knowledgeable, skilled, and characterful people. Abstract

Grammar appears to be unavoidably challenging for most L2 learners, particularly when it comes to acquiring noun clause. A noun clause is a dependent phrase that functions similarly to a noun. It has been a difficult area for EFL university students at Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang. The purpose of this study was to discover the students' challenges in learning noun clauses and how they dealt with their issues. The chosen participants were 25 students from the Intermediate Grammar Class in 2022. The method of the research was qualitative. The data was collected through doing interview. The data revealed that students had three major difficulties interpreting noun clauses. Recognizing functions, creating noun clauses, and identifying the subject and verb of a noun phrase were all tough. In addition, three strategies were employed by students to overcome learning barriers. They were going through materials, asking peers, looking for information, and exercising on the Internet.

Abstract

The study is aim at analysing students’ problems when learning causative verbs in Advanced English Grammar Class. The participants come from the third semesters students. Ten students are chosen as a sampling. The qualitative study is chosen to gather the data related to the students’ problems in comprehending causative verbs. The researcher used an interview as a data collection. The questions are about problems, the causes of the problems, the strategies of overcoming their problems, the most difficult part of causative verbs and their perception on causative verbs. The findings show that most of them get confused at the beginning when they were not in a good concentration. Get is the most difficult form of causative verbs. Their perception about causative verbs was quite good to learn since they had big effort to comprehend it. Sometimes, they preferred to ask their friends to reexplain about the materials. However, less of them were preferred to ask the lecturer as their learning strategy.
