Abstract

The spirit of tajdid (renewal) has been the spirit of the Muhammadiyah movement since its inception, oriented towards the purification of Islamic teachings as well as the dynamism of the people's lives according to the demands of the times. Muhammadiyah campuses as higher education institutions have a strategic role in internalizing the spirit of tajdid through the synergy of da'wah, education, and innovation. This study aims to analyze the concept and implementation of the spirit of tajdid on Muhammadiyah campuses and its relevance in responding to the challenges of globalization, the industrial revolution 4.0, and contemporary socio-religious changes. The method used is a literature study by examining books, journal articles, and official Muhammadiyah documents relevant to the themes of tajdid, Islamic education, and higher education innovation. The results of the study indicate that the spirit of tajdid on Muhammadiyah campuses is manifested in three main pillars: (1) enlightenment da'wah that emphasizes progressive, moderate Islam, and is oriented towards the welfare of the people; (2) education that integrates Islamic, scientific, and Indonesian values holistically; and (3) academic and institutional innovation through the development of research, technology, and social entrepreneurship. The synergy of these three aspects is a crucial foundation for building a superior Muhammadiyah campus that is globally competitive and remains rooted in Islamic values. This study emphasizes that the spirit of renewal is not merely an ideological discourse, but rather a practical paradigm that must be implemented sustainably in all activities of the Tridharma (three pillars) of Muhammadiyah higher education.

Abstract

The Pillars of Islam are the main foundation of Islamic teachings, encompassing the dimensions of faith, worship, and social life. However, in the context of the lives of Muslim students, the implementation of the pillars of Islam is often understood as merely ritualistic practices without appreciating the moral and social values they contain. This article aims to comprehensively examine the actualization of the pillars of Islam—from the shahada to the hajj—in the formation of the morals and daily behavior of Muslim students through a literature study approach. The method used is a literature review of classic and contemporary books, scientific journal articles, and relevant documents discussing the pillars of Islam, moral education, and student character. The results of the study indicate that each pillar of Islam has direct implications for the development of student personality, such as the shahada, which strengthens identity and integrity, prayer, which fosters discipline and moral awareness, zakat, which fosters social awareness, fasting, which trains self-control, and the hajj, which instills the values of brotherhood and equality. The holistic actualization of the pillars of Islam not only strengthens students' religiosity but also contributes to the formation of noble morals in academic and social settings. Therefore, integrative efforts in higher education are needed to foster an understanding of the pillars of Islam that goes beyond rituals and is internalized in the attitudes, ethics, and behavior of Muslim students in their daily lives.

Abstract

Islamic education plays a strategic role in shaping the character of a Muslim generation with noble character, moderation, and a positive contribution to global society. The concept of rahmatan lil 'alamin (blessings for the universe) is a fundamental value in Islam that emphasizes compassion, justice, tolerance, and universal welfare. The main challenge today is how these values can be effectively internalized by Generation Z Muslims, a generation that grew up in the digital era, globalization, and information disruption. This study aims to systematically examine the role of Islamic education in realizing the value of rahmatan lil 'alamin in Generation Z Muslims through a literature study approach. The method used is a literature review of various scientific sources in the form of books, national and international journals, and relevant documents that discuss Islamic education, the character of Generation Z, and the concept of rahmatan lil 'alamin. The study's findings demonstrate that Islamic education plays a crucial role in instilling the values of religious moderation, tolerance, social empathy, and moral responsibility through curriculum integration, educator role models, and the use of digital media that adapts to the characteristics of Generation Z. Furthermore, contextual and inclusive Islamic education can serve as a means of preventing radicalism and moral degradation among young Muslims. The study's conclusions affirm that optimizing Islamic education based on the values of rahmatan lil 'alamin (blessings for the universe) is highly relevant and urgent for developing a Generation Z Muslim population that is religious, humanistic, and globally minded.
