Abstract

This study aims to measure and determine the sustainability status of large pelagic fisheries in a sustainability perspective according to ecological, economic, social, technological, and legal/institutional dimensions in Morotai Island District. The method used in this study is a survey method and quantitative descriptive with analytical tools, namely RAPFISH analysis. Based on the analysis, the sustainability of the ecological and legal and institutional dimensions of large pelagic fisheries has a moderately sustainable status (range 50-75), with an average sustainability index value of 55.79. The economic, social and technological dimensions have a less sustainable status (range 25-50), while the legal and institutional dimensions have a good sustainability status (range 75-100) and the ecological dimension has a fairly sustainable status (range 50-75). The attributes that have the most influence (sensitive) on the sustainability status of large pelagic fisheries based on the five dimensions above are the level of collapse and pre-maturity of catch (ecology), employment and other income (economy), new entrants to fisheries and family participation (social). , is an attribute of pre-sale processing and use of FAD'S (technology), and illegal fishing and the availability of law enforcement personnel (legal and institutional).

Abstract

Fulfilling the need for ice blocks and fuel oil (BBM) for going to sea is also experiencing problems. The port has not been able to meet the demand for ice blocks and fuel, so fishermen still have to buy it from outside the port. In order to optimally serve the needs of users at PPN Ternate, a scientific study is needed regarding strategies for developing cold chain facilities and fishermen's public fuel filling stations (SPBUN) PPN Ternate. This research aims to develop a strategy for developing cold chain facilities (ice factory, ABF, and cold storage) and SPBUN at the Ternate archipelago fishing port. The research was carried out at PPN Ternate, North Maluku Province, from May - June 2023. Field data was collected for 2 weeks, namely 15-29 May 2023. This research used the case method. The results of the research show that the level of utilization of the ice factory (100.72%), cold storage (112.74%), and SPBUN (diesel 101.53%) has exceeded the optimal limit, while for pertalite and kerosene it requires distribution from Pertamina (pertalite 8 .50 KL/month, and kerosene 13.17 KL/month), while the air blast freezer (ABF) is not optimal (71.31%). The strategy for developing cold chain facilities and public fuel filling stations for fishermen at PPN Ternate includes: (1) Improving the quality of service at PPN Ternate; (2) Increasing cooperation indeveloping cold chain facilities and SPBUN at PPN Ternate; (3) Development of an integrated cold chain; and (4) Improvement of public fuel filling station (SPBUN) facilities for fishermen

Abstract

The boat lift-net used by fishermen in Saramaake and Akesahu Village consist of one-boat lift-net and two-boat lift netLocal fishermen always operate boat lift-net fishing gear continuously without knowing the existence of available fish resources and the sustainability status in the waters around Kao Bay. The objectives of this research are to assess the sustainability status of the boat lift-net fisheries operated in the Kao Bay. The data was obtained through survey and indepth interview to the respondent that related to the research objective. Data analysis was carried out. Analysis of the sustainability of the fishing boat fishery was carried out using a multidimensional scaling (MDS) approach called RAP-PL which is a development of the RAPFISH method which is used to assess the sustainability status of capture fisheries. The results of the the multidimensional analysis of the sustainability status of the boat lift-net fihery in Saramaake and Akesahu Village based on existing conditions, in Saramaake Village the index value was obtained at 56.05%, and for Akesahu Village the index value was slightly increased, namely 57.22%

Abstract

Ternate Perikanan Nusantara Port (PPN) has functional facilities including the Fish Marketing Point (TPI), which is used as a place to sell fish for some local fish traders. The development of TPI is quite rapid so that it has undergone additions and changes into TPI I, TPI II, and Hygienic TPI. This condition is suspected that TPI will continue to develop in line with the increasing human needs for fishery products. The purpose of this research is to describe fish marketing activities in VAT, and analyze the level of utilization and function of TPI. The method used in the research is descriptive, data collection is done through direct observation and interview with the manager of Ternate VAT. Data analysis consisted of descriptive analysis and utilization level analysis. The result shows that TPI I is functioned as pelagic fish selling place, TPI II is used as demersal fish selling place, while TPI Hygiene is not functioned as fish selling place but as tuna and skipjack temporary storage place before distributed to industry. The utilization rate of TPI I and TPI II have exceeded the optimal level respectively (160.34%, 115.98%), and TPI Hygiene 35.30%.

Abstract

The research was carried out at PP Tiley, Morotai Island Regency, North Maluku Province, from April to May 2024. Field data was collected for 1 week, namely on 10 - 17 May 2024. Tiley fishing port was chosen as the research location because this location was wrong. a fishing port which is often used as a fishing base and landing place for caught fish in Morotai Island Regency. This research uses the case method. The research results show that the utilization level of the ice factory is not yet optimal, while the utilization rate of ABF and cold storage has exceeded the optimal limit. The strategy for developing cold chain facilities at PP Tiley, Morotai Island Regency, includes: (1) Improving the quality of cold chain facility services at PP Tiley, Morotai Island Regency; (2) Collaborating with the private sector in the construction of air blast freezer and cool storage facilities at PP Tiley, Morotai Island Regency; (3) Development of an integrated cold chain; and (4) Additional logistics transportation trips for distribution of catches from PP Tiley, Morotai Island Regency to consumers.

Abstract

Fishermen at the Dufa-Dufa fish landing base, Ternate City, exploit yellowfin tuna using pole and line and FADs. Huhate is a fishing gear in the surface layer, so the yellowfin tuna that is caught is the yellowfin tuna that appears on the surface for the purpose of eating. In general, yellowfin tuna that gather on the surface of the water are classified as young fish. Therefore, yellowfin tuna caught around FADs tend to be young fish. This phenomenon causes the emergence of a problem, namely the dominance of young fish caught, besides that the yellowfin tuna fishery is an activity of exploiting fish resources with the aim of obtaining continuous profits. The aim of this research is to analyze biological aspects which include fork length structure and size of yellowfin tuna worth catching, analyze economic aspects which include profit analysis, net benefit cost ratio, internal rate of return, break even point, and payback period and analyze the status of the fishing business. sustainable yellowfin tuna. The research was carried out at the Dufa-Dufa fish landing base in Ternate City for 7 months, namely July 2022 - January 2023. The research method used was a survey method. The yellowfin tuna fishery business in the research location is dominated by the size not yet fit to catch, which is 100%. Financially and investment, the yellowfin tuna fishery business in the research location is feasible throughout the year. The yellowfin tuna fishery business based on the biological aspect has a low level of sustainability. Furthermore, based on the economic aspect (financial and investment criteria) the yellowfin tuna fishery business has high sustainability.
