Abstract

Cancer is a disease characterized by uncontrolled abnormal cell growth, originating from cancer stem cells. These cells form a side population with stemness properties similar to normal stem cells, have high tumorigenicity, and contribute to the development of cancer. Among all cases, breast cancer is one of the causes of cancer death in women worldwide, estimated to reach 28% of new cancers. The application of one of the genetic engineering techniques in the form of CRISPR / Cas9 which can be used as an alternative choice in optimizing breast cancer therapy. This literature review aims to determine CRISPR-Cas 9 Genetic Engineering as Breast Cancer Therapy. This journal review method is through searching for articles from databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar using relevant keywords, namely breast cancer therapy, Genetic Engineering, CRISPR / Cas9 Technique. The results obtained show something promising in the use of one of the genetic engineering technologies in the form of the CRISPR / Cas9 technique which is able to weaken or suppress genetic activity related to the continuity of growth and development of breast cancer cells. In conclusion, CRISPR/Cas9 technology shows promising potential in breast cancer therapy with its ability to inhibit the expression of certain genes that contribute to the growth, invasion, and metastasis of cancer cells.

Abstract

Herpes zoster is a viral skin infection caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, which remains latent in the dorsal root ganglia of the spinal cord and the cranial sensory ganglia. One of the most widely used classes of antiviral agents in the treatment of herpes zoster is nucleoside analogs. This study aims to review the use of nucleoside analogs in the management of herpes zoster. The method employed was a literature review of relevant research articles. The findings indicate that nucleoside analogs commonly used in herpes zoster therapy include acyclovir, valacyclovir, famciclovir, and brivudine. These agents are administered in various doses, routes, and therapeutic purposes, such as alleviating acute symptoms, accelerating skin lesion healing, preventing postherpetic neuralgia, and serving as prophylactic therapy in special conditions such as cancer or organ transplantation. Overall, the use of nucleoside analogs has proven effective in inhibiting varicella-zoster virus replication, reducing symptom intensity, and minimizing the risk of complications.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a priority health problem in Indonesia, with West Nusa Tenggara Province reporting 11,061 cases in 2023, most of which originated from Lombok Island. TB treatment success rates in this region remain below national targets, necessitating effective interprofessional collaboration between physicians and pharmacists as key players in therapy management. This study aims to describe the interprofessional collaboration between pharmacists and physicians in TB patient management at community health centers (Puskesmas) across Lombok Island. The study used a quantitative descriptive method involving 54 pharmacists selected through purposive sampling. The instrument used was the Pharmacist–Physician Collaborative Index (PPCI), which assesses three main domains: trust, initiating relationships, and role specification, as well as one additional domain: collaborative practice. Analysis was conducted descriptively based on the categorization scores for each domain. The results showed that the level of collaboration was in the moderate category. The trust domain was in the moderate category, the initiating relationship was in the moderate category, and the role specification was in the adequate category. Overall, collaborative practices were deemed quite effective. These results indicate that although collaboration has been established, improvements in communication, role clarity, and consistent information exchange are still needed to support optimal TB management in community health centers.
