Abstract

Dental and oral problems in Indonesian children are caused by low knowledge, comprehension, and behavior that ignores dental and oral health maintenance, resulting in tooth and mouth damage. This activity is in partnership with SD Yapita which is a school supported by the Faculty of Dentistry, Hang Tuah University. The aim is to prepare parents and teachers of Yapita Elementary School students to become ambassadors for oral and dental hygiene so that they can become mentors for their children or students. This method is carried out online and offline from classes 1 to 6 using a simple random sampling technique. The results were statistically analyzed using the Paired T-test. The average pre-test score from the teacher was 60 and the parents were 56, while the post-test result from the teacher was 84 and the parents was 85. The results of the data analysis were normally distributed (p>0.05) followed by the Paired correlation test T-test. The results show a relationship between the pre and post-test of teachers and parents. This shows that this educational activity can increase the knowledge of teachers and parents so that they can become ambassadors of oral and dental hygiene to their children or students.

Abstract

Background: Heat cure acrylic and nylon thermoplastic valplast and lucitone-FRS brands are the three materials most often used as denture bases. Candida albicans is the dominant microorganism that can cause denture stomatitis. Cleaning denture can be done in two ways, namely the mechanical way with a toothbrush or an ultrasonic cleanser and a chemical method by immersing the denture into the cleaning solution. Chitosan solution is antibacterial and anti fungal which can inhibit the growth of Candida albicans colonies on heat cured acrylic plates, valplast and lucitone-FRS. Purpose: To determine the concentration of chitosan solution and the type of denture plate that most effectively inhibited the growth of Streptococcus mutans Candida albicans colonies on heat cured acrylic, valplast and lucitone-FRS plates. Materials and Methods: 21 heat cured acrylic plate samples, 21 valplast plate samples, 21 lucitone-FRS plate samples measuring 10x10x2 mm divided by 9 groups. Heat cured, valplast and lucitone-FRS acrylic plate samples were contaminated with Candida albicans then immersed using the concentration of 0.25%, 0.5% chitosan solution and sterile aquades as the control group with 90 minutes immersion time. The entire study sample was calculated using Candida albicans colonies on Sabourroud's Dextrose Agar media. Results: The Kruskall Wallis test showed a significant difference (p <0.05) in all treatment groups. Mann-Whitney showed a significant difference (p <0.05) in all groups in the Candida albicans study. Conclusion: Soaking the lucitone-FRS plate in 0.5% chitosan solution for 90 minutes was the most effective in inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans colonies.

Abstract

Background: Immediate Denture is once of the Prosthodontics therapy to patients who will be take some tooth extraction in the anterior teeth or sseveral teeth, or even in the exostosis case. Patients who for some reason to have to anterior teeth removed, will experience the aesthetic and psychological disorders. Purpose: The immediate denture intended that the patient does not experience toothless due to tooth extractions and patients can immediately use the artificial tooth immediately without waiting for the healing process. Case: Complete denture will prepare and then it the same time some teeth are planned to be extraction on theworking cast will be remove by cutting it and the complete denture inserted immediately after the extraction teeth and alveolectomy on the patient. Case Management: Control on 3 days, 7 days, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks post-insertion to see the resorption process after tooth extraction, so it maybe need to be relining and rebasing the artificial teeth. 7-day control the healing process already looks better and so with the retention. At 4 weeks after insertion of control, the artificial denture become unstable and it need to be denture relining and rebasing process using a soft liner. At 8 weeks after insertion control, the alveolar ridge has been perfect healing process, and the dentures should be relining and rebasing re-use by self cure acrylic.

Abstract

Background: Periodontitis is caused by the occupation of gram-negative bacteria (mixed periodontopatogen) in oral cavity. Despite causing resistance, antibiotics are still used as a therapy for periodontitis. Sand sea cucumber (Holonturia scabra) extract hold somepotentials, if developed, to become the alternative therapy for periodontitis due to its antibacterial effects against gramnegative bacteria. Purpose: To determine sand sea cucumber extract (Holonturia scabra) in inhibiting the growth of mixed periodontopatogen bacteria. Materials and Methods: This study used a research design the post-test only control group design. 40 samples of BHI agar plates, contained mixed periodontopatogen bacteria samples, were divided into 5 groups samples. K1 (negative control) was given distilled water containing filter paper, K2 (positive control) was given the antibiotic tetracycline disc 30 g, while P1, P2, and P3 were given a filter paper containing sand sea cucumber extract with a concentration of 150 g/ml, 300 g/ml, and 450 g/ml. All sample from each group were anaerobically inoculated for 2x24 hours. After inoculation, the area aroundthe filter paper will appear to be clear and it will be measured with digital calipers (mm). The acquired data will be analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney test. Result: The inhibition rate of K1 (6,00 ± 0,00), K2 (28,975 ± 1,20049), P1 (6,8525 ± 0,30156), P2 (7,6237 ± 0,51281), and P3 (8,75 ± 0,3525). Conclusion: Sand sea cucumber extract (Holonthuria scabra) can inhibit the growth of Mixed periodontopatogen bacteria.
