Abstract

Introduction. Urinary incontinence (UI) is the involuntary discharge of urine. UI is often not reported due to social stigma and public relief. In addition, UI is a non-life-threatening condition so people consider UI as a nuisance and not a health problem. This shows the need for promotive and preventive efforts so that patients can immediately seek medical treatment and prevent UI. This study aims to identify the prevalence and characteristics of pregnant women with UI at Rika Amalia Hospital Palembang. Methods. This study is an observational descriptive research with a cross-sectional research design using primary data by filling out questionnaires and direct interviews with pregnant women at Rika Amalia Hospital Palembang. Results. This study involved 73 pregnant women. Most UI cases were at the age of <35 years (88%), education level ≤12 years (68%), no smoking behavior (100%), no caffeinated beverage consumption behavior (96%), third trimester (60%), multipara (40%), vaginal delivery (56%), BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2 (56%), no history of constipation (60%), no history of UI before pregnancy (92%), and had no family history of UI (88%). Conclusion. The prevalence of pregnant women with UI at Rika Amalia Hospital Palembang from August to October 2024 is 34.2%. Most UI cases happened in pregnant women with the age of <35 years, education level ≤12 years, no smoking behavior, no caffeinated beverage consumption behavior, third trimester, multipara, vaginal delivery, BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2, no history of constipation, no history of UI before pregnancy, and no family history of UI.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to identify the prevalence of dysmenorrhea, the level of physical activity, the risk factors for dysmenorrhea and to determine the relationship between physical activity and the severity of dysmenorrhea among junior high school students. Method: This is a cross-sectional, observational analytical study on the population of adolescence, junior high school students, conducted from July to December 2023 in Palembang. Primary data were obtained using Physical Activity Questionnaire for Older Children (PAQ-C) and working ability, location, intensity, days of pain, dysmenorrhea (WaLIDD) score. Results: About 88.9% of students experienced primary dysmenorrhea, with 34.4% experiencing mild dysmenorrhea, 38.9% experiencing moderate dysmenorrhea, and 15.6% experiencing severe dysmenorrhea. The level of daily physical activity performed by the students was 43.3% low activity, 55.6% moderate activity, and 1.1% high activity. There was no significant relationship between physical activity and the degree of dysmenorrhea (p=0.459; PR=0.828; 95% CI: 0.558-1.230). Menarche age <12 years (PR=1.186), a family history of dysmenorrhea (PR=1.225), and irregular menstrual cycles (PR=1.283) are risk factors for higher degree of dysmenorrhea. Conclusion: There is no relationship between physical activity and the degree of dysmenorrhea. Female students mostly experience moderate primary dysmenorrhea, with the dominant level of physical activity being moderate. Menarche age <12 years, a family history of dysmenorrhea, and irregular menstrual cycles are risk factors for the higher degree of dysmenorrhea. Abstract

Introduction. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease marked by persistent hyperglicemia. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasingly prevalent in Japan, affecting approximately 10% of adults with diabetes, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in 2020. Maintaining medication adherence is critical for T2DM management and complications prevention. This review aimed to synthesize factors influencing medication adherence in T2DM patients in Japan. Methods. This systematic review followed PRISMA-P guidelines, using the keywords The keywords “risk factors", "medication adherence", "diabetes mellitus", and "Japan”. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, five cross-sectional studies were selected for analysis. Results. Medication adherence among Japanese T2DM patients ranged from 65% to 85%. Positive factors linked to higher adherence included higher family income, knowledge of drug effect, absence of complication, increased number of medications, frequent healthcare utilization, structured lifestyle perception, and physical functionality. In contrast, variables such as gender, education level, and type of medication showed no significant influence in multiple studies. The use of validated scales highlighted correlations between high adherence and improved HbA1c outcomes. Conclusion. Medication adherence is multifactorial, driven by clinical and socio-behavioral determinants. Knowledge and perception-based interventions, combined with lifestyle modification and simplified therapy regimens, may enhance adherence in Japanese T2DM patients.

Abstract

Background: Changes in social life have a negative impact on mental health, leading to conditions such as depression and anxiety. Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to mental health disorders, including depression and anxiety. This study aims to identify factors that influence symptoms of depression and anxiety in pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Analytic observational research was used in this study. Primary data were collected from November 1 to November 28, 2021. The data collected came from distributing paper questionnaires and online questionnaires at 7 Independent Midwifery Clinics. The measurement instruments used include Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Results: The results showed that out of 308 pregnant women in Palembang, 13.0% experienced mild depression symptoms, 5.2% experienced moderate depression symptoms, and 1.6% experienced severe depression symptoms. In addition, 41.9% of participants reported anxiety symptoms, which were categorized as mild to moderate anxiety (31.5%), moderate to severe anxiety (9.1%), and severe anxiety (1.3%). There was a significant association found in the bivariate analysis between depressive symptoms and the age maternal women, a significant association of anxiety and depression with abortion history, and a significant association of depressive symptoms and anxiety symptoms with fear related to COVID-19. Conclusions: Research reveals multiple relationships between maternal age and depressive symptoms; between an abortion history and anxiety symptoms; between fear of COVID-19 and the symptoms of depression and anxiety. Counselling in mental health is necessary, especially for pregnant women with high-risk of depression and anxiety.

Abstract

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is a group of eye and vision problems caused by long-term use of visual electronics. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of digital devices has increased, resulting in increased ease of exposure to CVS which is feared to disrupt sleep quality. This study aimed to determine the relationship between sleep quality and CVS among adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design using primary data. Data were taken through a questionnaire with a sample of 96 adolescents who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis was carried out with the Chi-Square test. In this study, the results showed that the quality of sleep in adolescents had a prevalence of 59,4% as well as the prevalence of adolescents diagnosed with CVS by 56,3%. There is a statistically significant relationship between sleep quality and CVS with a p-value of 0,001. There is a high prevalence of poor sleep quality and CVS among adolescents. CVS is significantly related to sleep quality.  The implication of this result is that can impact academic performance and exacerbate the symptoms of CVS, such as eye strain, blurred vision and headaches
