Abstract

Groundwater in Temon District, Kulon Progo Regency, has the potential to experience pressure due to massive land use change. The quantity of groundwater in Temon District needs to be identified to determine the existing groundwater condition. The study was conducted to determine the amount of groundwater in the Temon District. The data used in the study include groundwater depth data, elevation data, groundwater level data, and data related to aquifer characteristics. Primary data were collected through field surveys. Secondary data are extracted through literature studies. Data analysis was carried out using the Darcy method. The results showed that the dynamic quantity of groundwater amounted to 4,996.3 m3/day. Factors affecting the active portion of groundwater include aquifer characteristics, groundwater depth, and groundwater hydraulic slope. Based on a comparison with the results of previous studies, it is known that there was a decrease in groundwater for five years (2016 to 2021) of 8,089,710 m3/year. The average reduction per year is 1,617,942 m3/year. Factors that influence the decrease in groundwater quantity are changes in land use and massive groundwater use.

Abstract

Several countries have placed groundwater spatial information inventories in a significant position in groundwater management. However, this effort has not been found in Indonesia. This is probably due to limited references. This study aims to determine the spatial information of groundwater as a basis for inventory. The research also aims to identify the capabilities of Arc GIS online as a medium for inventorying groundwater spatial information. As a preliminary study, Sitimulyo Village, Bantul Regency, Special Province of Yogyakarta was used as the study area. Data was collected through field surveys. Spatial interpolation was used for data analysis. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the free groundwater in the majority of the research area is 6.7 to 9.5 meters deep. Studies on electrical conductivity, temperature, and alkalinity also indicate that groundwater quality is good. Arc GIS online can be used as a medium for inventorying groundwater information. Easy accessibility, supported by simple data management and updating, is the advantage of Arc GIS online.

Abstract

Residential areas in Nanggulan sub-district are mainly adjacent to irrigated rice fields. Groundwater in settlements close to irrigated rice fields has the potential to be contaminated with nitrates. Studies on the spatial distribution of groundwater nitrate around irrigated rice fields have never been conducted in Nanggulan District, Kulon Progo Regency. The study was conducted to determine the spatial distribution of nitrates in groundwater in Nanggulan District, Kulon Progo Regency. Nitrate data were collected through groundwater sample testing. The location of groundwater samples is determined using a systematic random sampling. The data was analyzed by spatial interpolation method through Arc GIS 10.6 software. The results showed variations in the spatial distribution of nitrates in the study area. Most of the study area had nitrate levels of 5-10 mg / L distributed in the south. Nitrates exceeding ten mg/L were distributed in the northern part of the study area. Based on research that has been conducted, it is known that 41% of groundwater in the study area is contaminated with nitrates, while 59% of groundwater is not contaminated with nitrates. Spatially, nitrate-contaminated groundwater is found in parts of Tanjungharo Village, some Wijimulyo Village, some Donomulyo Village, some Jatisarono Village, and some Kembang Villages. Groundwater not contaminated with nitrates is found in Banyuroto Village and most areas of Donomulyo Village. Factors that cause nitrate-contaminated groundwater are the location of excavated wells close to intensively fertilized irrigated rice fields, groundwater contained in geological formations of young Merapi volcano deposits, and groundwater depth of less than 5 meters.
