Abstract

Acne vulgaris or acne, is a common inflammatory condition in the polysebaceous unit that occurs in teenagers and young adults and is characterized by comedones, papules, pustules, and nodules. One of the factors that causes acne is the Propionic bacterium acnes bacteria. One type of plant with antibacterial properties for acne is the Star Gooseberry Leaf plant (Souropus Androgynus L), which contains alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and flavonoids that act as antibacterials. Susanti (2012). This research aimed to obtain data on the antibacterial activity of the compound components contained in the n-hexane fraction of Star Gooseberry Leaves (Souropus Androgynus L) against the Propionic bacterium acnes bacteria, which can be seen from the inhibition zone. The method used was disc diffusion with three groups of control, namely (K(S), K(+), and K(-)). The test bacteria Propionic bacterium acnes, where the Control Sample consists of 4 test concentrations, namely 30 mg, 60 mg, 120 mg, and 240 mg. The positive control used two µg/disc Clindamycin, while the negative control was 2% DMSO. The results of the disc diffusion test of the ethanol fraction of Star Gooseberry Leaves (Souropus Androgynus L) using the disc diffusion method with concentrations of 30 mg/ml and 60 mg/ml did not provide an inhibition zone, the concentration of 120 mg/ml was 11.1 ± 0.10 mm, the concentration was 240 mg/ml was 14.63 ± 0.25 mm. The negative control DMSO 2% did not provide an inhibitory zone diameter, whereas the positive control Clindamycin 2 µg/disk provided an inhibition zone of 25.47 ± 0.70 mm.

Abstract

The development of topical preparations from natural ingredients requires rigorous physical quality evaluation to ensure their safety, stability, and efficacy. This study aimed to formulate and evaluate the physical quality of a gel preparation containing the water fraction of Cyperus rotundus L. at various concentrations. The water fraction of the rhizome was formulated into gel preparations with concentrations of 5% (F1), 10% (F2), 15% (F3), and 20% (F4) using Carbopol 940 as a gelling agent. The physical quality evaluation included organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesion, and viscosity. The results showed that all gel formulas met the established physical quality requirements. An increase in the concentration of the water fraction significantly affected the physical characteristics of the preparation, such as a more intense color, as well as an increase in pH, adhesion, and viscosity. All formulas exhibited a pH suitable for the physiological range of the skin (5.53–6.80), good spreadability (5.49–6.77 cm), and adequate adhesion (>2 seconds). It was concluded that the nut grass rhizome water fraction gel has stable and acceptable physical characteristics, making it a potential candidate for further development as a topical preparation.

Abstract

Peningkatan kasus asam lambung pada remaja dipengaruhi oleh gaya hidup tidak sehat dan rendahnya pengetahuan mengenai pencegahan serta penanganannya, sehingga kegiatan ini bertujuan meningkatkan pemahaman remaja tentang penggunaan bahan alam dalam mengatasi asam lambung. Metode yang digunakan adalah edukasi melalui penyuluhan kesehatan kepada siswa SMA dengan media presentasi, brosur, serta evaluasi menggunakan pretest dan post-test. Hasil menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan pengetahuan peserta dari rata-rata 65,15% menjadi 91,51% setelah diberikan edukasi. Remaja mampu memahami penyebab, gejala, pencegahan, serta pemanfaatan bahan alami seperti jahe, kunyit, sereh, madu, dan pepaya sebagai alternatif penanganan awal. Hasil analisis statistik menggunakan uji Paired T-Test menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara nilai pretest dan post-test (p<0,001), sehingga edukasi kesehatan berbasis bahan alam dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan remaja mengenai pengendalian asam lambung.

Abstract

Background: Acne (acne vulgaris) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with a complex pathogenesis, involving the sebaceous glands and excessive colonization of acne-causing bacteria. In the modern era, the trend of using natural cosmetics is gaining momentum, not only in Indonesia but also globally. An example of a plant with great potential is Ashitaba. Ashitaba leaves have antibacterial. This study aimed to observe the physical quality test and antibacterial test of ashitaba leaf extract toner against Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes bacteria.Methods: The design in this study is an experimental method, physical quality tests include, Organoleptic tests are carried out visually, the components evaluated are the smell, shape, color and texture of the preparation, pH test and viscosity test.  analysis of data from the physical quality test of the Ashitaba leaf extract facial toner, the physical characteristics of the preparation, including organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, and pH, of all three formulas met the parameters.Results: The toner tested against Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes bacteria had the largest inhibition zone, namely with an extract concentration of 20%.Conclusion: The toner tested against Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria with a 20% extract had the largest inhibition zone of 27.6 mm, while Propionibacterium acnes bacteria with a 20% extract had the largest inhibition zone of 27.9 mm
