Abstract

The eucalyptus plant (Melalauca leucadendron Linn.) is one of the largest essential oil producing plants in Indonesia. The main objective of developing eucalyptus plantations from an economic perspective is to extract the leaves. To support the development of eucalyptus plantations, of course there must be availability of plant cultivation, so there is a need for efforts to provide quality seeds. This research was conducted in the Fatukoa Permanent Nursery, Fatukoa Village, Kupang City which was carried out for 4 months, from April to July 2022. The method used in this study was a 2-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a combination of treatment with POC concentrations of cow urine and planting media. The results showed that the interaction between the planting medium and the POC concentration of cow urine had a significant effect on height but had no effect on stem diameter, number of leaves, dry weight and percentage alive. The single factor of growing media had an effect on height and diameter but had no effect on the number of leaves, dry weight and percentage of life. While the single factor POC concentration of cow urine has an influence on height, diameter, number of leaves, dry weight and percentage alive.

Abstract

Merbau (Intsiabijuga(Colebr.) O. Kuntze) is a native plant species in Indonesia and widely used by local people because it has high economic values. The generative propagationof Merbau had problems due to the period of seed dormancy, so pretreatment was required to defeat this dormancy. Coconut water one the natural ingredients, which contains cytokinin, auxin and gibberellins and other compounds that can stimulate seed germination and growth of Merbau. Soaking the seeds in coconut water is a way to break the dormancy of physical seed of Merbau, expectedto accelerate germination and reducing time and effort forbreaking merbau seed dormancy. This study aimed to the effect ofsoaking coconut water on Merbau seeds in different immersion time the best seedlings growth of Merbau. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a long soaking time (A0) merbau seeds soaked in water for 24 hours (control), (A1) merbau seeds soaked 500 mL pure coconut water for 24 hours, (A2) merbau seeds soaked 500 mL pure coconut water for 48 hours, (A3) merbau seeds soaked in 500 mL pure coconut water for 72 hours. This study found the length of immersion time had a very significant effect to the percentage germination and vigor index but had nosignificant effect on the germination rate. Single factor (A3) merbau seeds soaked 500 mL pure coconut water for 72 hours the best treatment because it has been able to show a high influence on several observation variables.

Abstract

Bamboo is one of the potential plants in the Flores area, one of which is in East Flores Regency. Decree of the Governor of East Nusa Tenggara No. 404 of 2018 states that bamboo is designated as one of the 14 leading Non-Timber Forest Product (HHBK) commodities in East Nusa Tenggara. The percentage of survival from multiplication of betung bamboo branch cuttings is still low, namely around 44.44% so that it becomes a problem in procuring seeds. This research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of natural ZPT on the growth of betung bamboo branch cuttings with various concentrations and which concentrations of natural growth regulators gave the best results in the growth of betung bamboo cuttings. The research method used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 1 factor, namely the concentration consisting of Control (Aquades), Shallots and Coconut Water with each concentration of 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%. The results showed that natural PGR of coconut water and shallots had a very significant effect on the parameters of the period of shoot emergence, number of shoots, number of leaves and root length of bamboo betung branch cuttings (Dendrocalamus asper) but had no significant effect on survival percentage of bamboo betung branch cuttings. Treatments A1 (25% concentration of ZPT coconut water) and A5 (25% shallot concentration) gave the best results for the parameters of the shoot emergence period, number of shoots, number of leaves and root length of bamboo betung (Dendrocalamus asper) cuttings.

Abstract

White teak (Gmelina arborea Roxb.) is one of type of plant that can be develop in the plantation forests, especially community forests. This type of exotic tree can grows quickly, ease to planting, and makes economic benefits. White teak wood can be used for light construction, crafts, home furnishing, matches, particle boards, containers, and woodworking. The application of atonic growth regulator (GRS) has the ability to accelerate germination, stimulate plant root growth, activation of nutrient absorption, promotes vegetative growth, and increase bud output. This study aims to determined the effects of atonic concentration on the germination of white teak seeds and to find out one of the atonic soaking treatments that has the best effect on the germination. The method used in this study was a Complete Random Design (RAL) with the comparison of the several atonic concentration that consist of (P0) without atonic / control, (P1) atonic 1 ml/L, (P2) atonic 1.5 ml/L, (P3) 2 ml/L. Each treatments were repeated 4 times so there were 16 experimental units that were obtained. Each experimental unit requires 10 white teak seeds, so the total of all treatments and replication requires the total of 160 white teak seeds. The results showed that the atonic concentration had a very significant effect on germination ability and germination speed index. Also, it has significant effect on the germination value of white teak plants. The effect of atonic concentration of P2 treatment (1.5 ml/L) was the best treatment that affected germination ability, germination speed index, and germination value of white teak plants. At this concentration the plant can germinate well compared to the other treatments.
