Abstract

Abstract

Elementary education in Indonesia is characterized by diversity in approaches and curricula, influenced by social, cultural, and religious contexts. This study aims to compare the elementary education systems of public elementary schools, Islamic elementary schools, and Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, focusing on curriculum and teaching methods. Public elementary schools follow the 2013 National Curriculum and the Merdeka Curriculum, emphasizing competency-based learning and a scientific approach, while Islamic elementary schools integrate Islamic values into these curricula, and Madrasah Ibtidaiyah highlights formal religious content as the core of education. This study employs a literature review method to analyze the structural differences and pedagogical approaches across the three school types. Findings reveal that, despite shared basic structures, significant differences exist in the prioritization of religious content, teaching methods, and curriculum flexibility. The discussion underscores the implications of these differences for character development and the relevance of education in the modern era. This research concludes with a call for curriculum harmonization that supports pluralism and pedagogical innovation to enhance the quality of elementary education in Indonesia.

Abstract

The era of disruption exposes madrasah students to a multifaceted vulnerability comprising identity crises, mental exhaustion, and exposure to disinformation which frequently eludes the intervention of formal educational curricula. This study aims to deconstruct the life skills education praxis initiated by the Branch Executive Board of the Nahdlatul Ulama Student Association and the Nahdlatul Ulama Female Student Association (PC IPNU-IPPNU) of Kediri Regency, acting as a social movement entity. Employing a qualitative approach with a field case study design, primary data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and critical analysis of the organization's operational and administrative documents. The findings reveal three primary outcomes: (1) The organization mobilizes regional-scale social capital through structural penetration across 26 sub-districts and the integration of commissariat boards within formal madrasahs to establish a social safety net; (2) The hidden curriculum is operationalized through the rationalization of work programs across 11 departments and institutions, functioning as an engine for life skills transformation; (3) This praxis constructs student resilience through four comprehensive pillars: personal skills, social skills, academic skills, and vocational skills. This study offers a theoretical novelty, asserting that the resilience of madrasah students is empirically shaped through the dialectics of youth movements, which functionally bridge the gaps left by formal curricular education.

Abstract

This study examines code-switching dynamics in parenting communication among two Indonesian migrant families who have acquired Malaysian citizenship. Using a qualitative approach with an intrinsic case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews and observation of four informants comprising parents (First Generation) and children (Second Generation). Analysis was conducted using Poplack's (1980) typology, Gumperz's (1982) sociopragmatic framework, and Spolsky's (2004) language ideology perspective. Findings indicate that intra-sentential switching is the most productive form with Malay functioning as the matrix language, addressee specification emerges as the most dominant function, and message qualification reveals a negative pattern in which Indonesian is no longer effective as a command reinforcer. Second Generation informants in both families tend to identify as Malaysian, with varying intensity that correlates directly with the degree of Indonesian language exposure at home. Code-switching among First Generation informants is shown to function as a deliberate identity strategy, whereby Indonesian is selectively maintained in specific domains as a conscious effort to preserve cultural ties amid the dominance of Malay in everyday life.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of Islamic ecology as the basis of the Adiwiyata School curriculum at SMPN 5 Kota Kediri and its transformative impact on students' pro-environmental behavior. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, then analyzed using an interactive model (data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing). The results indicate that: (1) Eco-theological values (such as Tawhid, Khalifah, Ihsan, and anti-Fasad) are holistically integrated into general subjects and actualized in practical projects, including the production of eco-bricks, eco-printing, and pokja liquid fertilizer; (2) This theological internalization effectively overcomes cultural and structural barriers by shifting student motivation from extrinsic compliance (fear of school rules) to intrinsic-spiritual awareness (worship and divine mandate). The novelty of this research demonstrates that Islamic ecology can be inclusively operationalized in public secondary schools, deconstructing the binary separation between applied science and theology. In conclusion, an eco-theology-based Adiwiyata curriculum is crucial in shaping a persistent and sustainable pro-environmental habitus

Abstract

The Putra Putrajaya Mosque is a symbolic representation of Malaysia's religious-state relations that constitutionally establishes Islam as the Religion of the Federation. However, an analysis of 121 traveller reviews on Instagram and TripAdvisor showed that 90.9% of visitor narratives only highlighted visual aesthetics without touching the ideological dimension of architecture, indicating the workings of mythical mechanisms that naturalize messages of power. This research aims to uncover the denotative, connotative, and mythical meaning of the architectural elements of the Putra Mosque as a representation of religious-state relations, as well as dismantle the mechanism of exnomination that makes the ideological construction of the state appear to be aesthetically justified. The study used a qualitative approach with the Roland Barthes semiotics framework through triangulation of field observations, in-depth interviews with five multi-layered interviews, and netnography of 121 tourist reviews. The results of the study showed that the seven architectural elements of the spatial position facing the Prime Minister's Office, the capacity of 15,000 worshippers, the pink granite dome, the 116-meter octagonal tower, the integration of Lake Putrajaya, arabesque ornamentation across civilizations, and the dual functions of tourism and worship work as a layered marking system. Connotatively, these elements build the Islamic narrative as the moral foundation of an institutionalized modern state. At the mythical level, exnominations have proven to be effective in disguising the ideological content behind visual beauty so that it is accepted by the public as natural naturalness.
