Abstract

Climate change due to deforestation is a hot global issue today. This study analyzes the effect of deforestation on temperature, humidity, rainfall, and sunshine duration in North Sumatra Province during the period 2013-2022. A quantitative approach was used with deforestation data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and climate data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis was performed using SPSS version 29. The results showed that the average deforestation in North Sumatra reached 9,884.79 hectares per year. The correlation analysis showed a very weak to low negative relationship between deforestation and the four climate parameters analyzed, namely rainfall (r = -0.292), sunshine duration (r = -0.173), air temperature (r = -0.086), and air humidity (r = -0.056). Statistically, no significant relationship (p>0.05) was found between deforestation and climate variables, most likely due to the limited number of annual samples. This study identified that local factors such as the presence of the large Lake Toba and the conversion of deforested land to plantations act as moderators of the microclimate. This explains the impact of deforestation on temperature and humidity in this region is not always significant as theoretically assumed. Correlations between climate variables also show complex interactions, such as a very strong negative relationship between temperature and humidity (r=-0.974; p<0.001). This study provides important insights into the complexity of deforestation and microclimate interactions in a unique tropical region such as North Sumatra.

Abstract

Stunting masih menjadi masalah gizi kronis yang berdampak pada kualitas tumbuh kembang anak dan produktivitas sumber daya manusia di masa depan. Kecamatan Utan, Kabupaten Sumbawa, termasuk wilayah prioritas penanganan Stunting berdasarkan kebijakan pemerintah daerah. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kapasitas masyarakat dalam pencegahan Stunting melalui pendekatan pemberdayaan berbasis edukasi gizi dan pemanfaatan pangan lokal. Metode kegiatan dilaksanakan secara partisipatif melalui tahapan koordinasi lintas sektor, sosialisasi dan edukasi pencegahan Stunting, pelatihan pengolahan pangan lokal bergizi (MP-ASI dan cookies fortifikasi), serta pemberian dukungan pangan pendamping bagi keluarga sasaran. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di Desa Stowe Brang dengan melibatkan kader posyandu, ibu balita, pemerintah desa, dan tenaga kesehatan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat mengenai Stunting dan gizi seimbang, peningkatan keterampilan praktik pengolahan pangan lokal, serta tingginya partisipasi kader posyandu dan PKK dalam penguatan pesan gizi keluarga. Pendekatan pemberdayaan berbasis pangan lokal ini berpotensi untuk dilanjutkan dan direplikasi sebagai strategi pencegahan Stunting di tingkat desa

Abstract

Air merupakan faktor krusial dalam keberhasilan produksi pertanian, di mana jaringan irigasi berfungsi menjamin ketersediaan air. Namun, interaksi antara saluran irigasi dengan aktivitas domestik di pemukiman dan area persawahan berpotensi memengaruhi laju aliran serta kapasitas penampang saluran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi karakteristik hidrolika aliran air pada Saluran Sekunder Bendungan Sidoras, Desa Saentis, berdasarkan data kecepatan arus, kedalaman, dan dimensi penampang. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan instrumen non-test melalui observasi langsung di lapangan pada Mei 2026 yang terbagi ke dalam 7 segmen sepanjang 2,5 Km. Pengukuran kecepatan arus menggunakan metode pelampung permukaan (botol plastik) sepanjang lintasan 10 meter, sementara dimensi saluran diukur menggunakan meteran penampang melintang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya variasi karakteristik fisik saluran yang signifikan di tiap segmen. Lebar badan air berkisar antara 2,01meter hingga 5,20 meter dengan kedalaman rata-rata berkisar antara 0,41 meter hingga 0,78 meter. Kecepatan aliran rata-rata tertinggi ditemukan pada Segmen 5 sebesar 0,24 m/s dan terendah pada Segmen 4 sebesar 0,113 m/s akibat penyempitan serta hambatan penampang. Aliran air cenderung mengalami perlambatan dan penurunan kualitas fisik (keruh dan berbau) pada segmen yang melewati pemukiman padat akibat hambatan sampah domestik dan sedimentasi lumpur yang tinggi. Sebaliknya, segmen yang memasuki kawasan persawahan memiliki kualitas air yang lebih bersih namun rentan terhadap sedimentasi akibat erosi tanah. Diperlukan upaya pemeliharaan rutin berupa pengerukan sedimen dan pembersihan sampah secara berkala untuk menjaga efisiensi distribusi air irigasi menuju lahan pertanian.

Abstract

Penerapan Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja Lingkungan (K3L) pada Proyek Pembanguann kantor OJK Medan. Proyek ini merupakan pembangunan gedung bertingkat dengan tingkat kompleksitas tinggi sehingga memiliki berbagai potensi risiko kerja seperti pekerjaan di ketinggian, penggunaan alat berat, pekerjaan listrik, serta aktivitas pengelasan dan pekerjaan di ruang terbatas. Tujuan dari penyusunan laporan ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi aktivitas kerja berisiko, area kerja berbahaya, serta waktu pelaksanaan yang memiliki tingkat risiko tinggi, sekaligus menganalisis penerapan sistem K3L di lapangan. Metode yang digunakan adalah observasi langsung selama kegiatan proyek serta studi literatur terhadap standar K3 yang berlaku. Hasil pembahasan menunjukkan bahwa penerapan K3L telah dilakukan melalui penggunaan alat pelindung diri (APD), pemasangan rambu keselamatan, pelaksanaan safety talk, penerapan SOP K3, serta pengawasan oleh petugas K3 dan mandor. Selain itu, pengelolaan lingkungan kerja seperti kebersihan area, pengendalian debu, kebisingan, pencahayaan, ventilasi, serta pengaruh cuaca juga menjadi bagian penting dalam menjaga keselamatan kerja. Dengan penerapan sistem K3L yang baik dan konsisten, diharapkan risiko kecelakaan kerja dapat diminimalkan serta tercapai target zero accident pada proyek konstruksi tersebut.

Abstract

Bendungan Namu Sira-Sira merupakan prasarana vital yang berfungsi melayani kebutuhan air untuk Daerah Irigasi (D.I.) Namu Sira-Sira di Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Salah satu permasalahan utama yang memengaruhi operasional bendungan ini adalah tingginya laju sedimentasi yang masuk ke dalam bangunan kantong lumpur. Akumulasi endapan sedimen yang tidak terkontrol menyebabkan pendangkalan, berkurangnya volume tampungan, serta penurunan kapasitas debit air yang dialirkan ke saluran irigasi..Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghitung besar laju angkutan sedimen yang masuk ke kantong lumpur dan mengevaluasi pengaruhnya terhadap debit aliran irigasi. Analisis laju sedimentasi dilakukan menggunakan metode empiris (seperti pendekatan Lane and Kalinske atau Engelund-Hansen) serta data pengukuran langsung di lapangan. Data hidrometri dan dimensi saluran dianalisis untuk mendapatkan estimasi volume sedimen yang mengendap setiap tahunnya.Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa laju sedimentasi yang tinggi secara signifikan mengurangi efektivitas fungsi kantong lumpur. Apabila kapasitas tampung sedimen (dead storage) penuh, material sedimen akan terbawa masuk ke saluran irigasi. Hal ini mengakibatkan terjadinya sedimentasi pada saluran, pendangkalan dasar saluran, dan penurunan debit aliran yang dapat mengairi lahan pertanian. Rekomendasi teknis yang dihasilkan dari penelitian ini meliputi penjadwalan ulang interval pembilasan kantong lumpur dan normalisasi saluran guna memastikan suplai air irigasi tetap optimal. Sedimentasi merupakan salah satu faktor utama yang mempengaruhi kinerja hidraulika pada bangunan air. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh sedimentasi terhadap debit aliran pada kantong lumpur Bendungan Namu Sira-Sira. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif dengan pengukuran kecepatan aliran menggunakan metode pelampung. Hasil menunjukkan kecepatan rata-rata sebesar 31,50 m/s. Sedimentasi menyebabkan penyempitan penampang yang berdampak pada penurunan debit aliran.

Abstract

Urban drainage systems play a crucial role in controlling stormwater runoff and preventing flooding. However, drainage channel performance often declines due to sedimentation and increased flow loads. This study aims to analyze the effect of sedimentation on the capacity and performance of drainage channels on the Jalan Kapten M. Jamil Lubis to Jalan Peringgan section in Medan City. The methods used included hydrological analysis to determine runoff discharge based on rainfall return periods (2, 5, 10, 25, and 100 years), measuring the dimensions of existing channels, and calculating sedimentation volume and channel capacity. The results showed that the total sedimentation volume reached approximately 1,359.63 m³, with an average decrease in channel capacity of 17.49%. Runoff discharge increased with increasing rainfall return periods, from 0.171 m³/s at a 2-year return period to 0.246 m³/s at a 100-year return period. This indicates that the existing channel capacity is beginning to suboptimally accommodate the design discharge, especially at medium to high return periods. Furthermore, population growth has increased the burden of domestic waste entering drainage channels. Based on the analysis, mitigation efforts are needed, including routine maintenance through sediment dredging, increasing channel capacity, and implementing a sustainable drainage system to reduce runoff. With proper management, it is hoped that drainage system performance can be improved and the risk of flooding can be minimized.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the problem of inundation and flooding on Jalan Perjuangan, Medan Perjuangan District, which was caused by the drainage system capacity not being optimal. The aim of this research is to evaluate the capacity and performance of drainage channels based on existing dimensions and assess the channel's ability to accommodate the planned discharge at various return periods. The methods used include hydrological and hydraulic analysis. Hydrological analysis is carried out through rainfall distribution tests, Chi-Square tests, and determining planned rainfall with various return periods. Rain intensity is calculated using the Mononobe method. Next, hydraulic analysis is carried out using the Manning formula to determine the flow capacity of the drainage channel. The data used in this research consists of primary data from field surveys and secondary data from related agencies. The research results show that the most suitable rainfall distribution is Log Pearson Type III. The existing channel dimensions of 4 m × 3 m have proven capable of accommodating the planned discharge up to a return period of 100 years with a discharge of 54 m³/sec, so that technically it still meets the currently required capacity. However, factors such as increasing population, sediment accumulation and domestic waste disposal have the potential to reduce channel performance in the future. Therefore, routine maintenance efforts and sustainable drainage management planning are needed to ensure the system continues to function optimally and is able to anticipate increases in flow loads in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of sedimentation in urban drainage channels and evaluate its effect on channel capacity along Taduan–Taut Streets, Medan City. The research was conducted through direct field measurements at 10 drainage channel segments to obtain data on channel dimensions, sediment thickness, and sediment characteristics, supported by secondary data on rainfall and population growth. The results indicate that sediment thickness ranges from 0.01 m to 0.36 m, with sediment volumes varying between 2.046 m³ and 133.92 m³. The highest sediment accumulation was found in Segment II and Segment X, resulting in a reduction of the effective drainage channel capacity. High annual rainfall and increasing population growth further contribute to sediment accumulation and drainage burden. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of direct field-based sedimentation measurements with rainfall and population growth analyses to evaluate their combined influence on urban drainage performance. The findings demonstrate that sedimentation significantly reduces drainage efficiency and highlight the importance of routine maintenance and sustainable sediment management to improve urban drainage system performance

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of sedimentation on drainage capacity in the Glugur Darat II to Pulo Brayan Darat I area, Medan City. The main issue addressed is the decline in drainage performance due to sediment accumulation, which potentially causes inundation and flooding, especially in areas with high rainfall intensity. The research method used is field observation through direct measurements at several drainage segments, including channel width, sediment height, water depth, and channel dimensions. Secondary data such as rainfall and population were also used as supporting variables. The results show that sediment height varies across observation segments, with a maximum value reaching 25 cm, significantly reducing the effective capacity of the drainage channel. In addition, high annual rainfall intensity exceeding 3000 mm/year worsens drainage conditions. Sedimentation has been proven to reduce water storage capacity, thereby increasing the risk of inundation. Therefore, routine maintenance and sediment control are necessary to improve drainage system performance.

Abstract

The implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS/SMK3) integrated with environmental management remains a challenge in construction projects, particularly due to inconsistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), limited distribution of safety signage, and potential hazards arising from high-risk work activities. These issues were identified in the XYZ School Construction Project located in Hamparan Perak District, Deli Serdang Regency, which involves various construction activities with significant risks to worker safety and environmental quality, such as dust, noise, and material waste. This study aims to analyze the level of OHS implementation and evaluate aspects that need improvement to minimize occupational accident risks and environmental impacts. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with an observational approach through direct field observations conducted over approximately three months, supported by documentation and literature review. Data were analyzed by classifying OHS aspects, including high-risk work activities, PPE usage, safety signage and facilities, work environment conditions, as well as supervision and work procedures. The results indicate that OHS implementation has generally been carried out adequately; however, several issues remain, including inconsistent PPE usage, uneven distribution of safety signage, and suboptimal control of environmental factors such as dust and noise. In conclusion, although most OHS standards have been met, improvements in PPE compliance, distribution of safety facilities, supervision, and environmentally oriented work practices are necessary to reduce accident risks and achieve a safer, healthier, and more sustainable construction environment.
