Abstract

Two fundamental requirements for sustainable rural area development are enhancing the well-being of the rural populace and safeguarding cultural assets. The preservation of architectural buildings' aesthetic value is one aspect of cultural preservation, but frequently, welfare improvements do not align with these efforts. It is necessary to draw aesthetic guidelines from construction projects with notable cultural significance. The buildings of Keraton Yogyakarta is a national landmark which has unique aesthetic qualities. The study in question focuses on the building's column in Keraton Yogyakarta and its ability to withstand aesthetic criticism. There are two goals to this architectural research on aesthetic resilience. 1) To determine the aesthetic columns' resilience value in Keraton Yogyakarta buildings; 2) To differentiate architectural parts according to their resilience value. The constructivism research paradigm served as the foundation for the conduct of this research. A combination of qualitative and historical research methods is the research strategy being used in this research. Historical research is used to gather historical data. Qualitative study focuses on the formal nature of an aesthetic to determine its aesthetic resilience value. According to the findings, there are three levels of aesthetic resilience in the decorative components implemented on the columns. 1) the most significant aesthetic resilience is seen in the Javanese ornaments that are still in place; 2) the color of the columns varies over time but still exhibits aesthetic resilience; and 3) there is no aesthetic resilience found in the European features.

Abstract

Lahor Reservoir has great potential as an attractive tourist destination. With high natural and visual resources both natural and built landscapes this is an attraction for local and foreign tourists. In addition to the potential, the Lahor Reservoir tourist area also has weaknesses including some park facilities that are not well maintained, trash bins that are not well managed, circulation areas that are dirty due to leaves and branches, thus disturbing the quality of tidiness and cleanliness in the area. Based on this, the development of the Lahor Reservoir tourism area needs to be directed appropriately in order to provide maximum benefits. So, there needs to be an effort to improve and develop Blue Open Space at Lahor Reservoir by identifying and analyzing the tourism resources contained in Lahor Reservoir. The general method used in this research is descriptive quantitative and the analysis method used is Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) where this method focuses on solving a problem based on stakeholder preferences. The weight of the alternative assessment shows the priority of the Tourism alternative 0.496, the Reservoir Ecology alternative 0.215, the Socio-Cultural alternative 0.173 and the Economic alternative 0.116. From the assessment of these alternatives shows the best results in the development of Blue Open Space in the Lahor Reservoir tourism area that is sustainable is a Tourism-based model. The development of Blue Open Space in the Lahor Reservoir tourism area is divided into three development zones, namely the core zone, buffer zone and utilization zone. Zones that are less suitable for tourism development will be used as the core zone. Zones that are suitable enough for tourism development will be used as a buffer area.

Abstract

Globally, currently more than 50 percent of the world's population lives in urban areas. It is projected that 70 percent of the world's population will live in cities by 2050. Given the sheer scale of urbanization and its environmental implications, it is important to consider the interrelationships between urban and rural contexts in an integrated manner. Achieving sustainable development requires priorities and the implementation of tailored policies in both urban and rural areas. One way that can be done is to strengthen rural cultural values in communities and indigenous peoples. In this study, the case study raised is the cultural value of the Samin Bojonegoro community in maintaining cultural values and preventing the flow of urbanization of its population. The creation of a livable environment through the cultural values of the Samin community will be raised through this research through ethnographic approach with synchronic and diachronic presentation. As a result The Samin community, which is rooted in the culture of an agrarian society, has not changed much in terms of vegetation, land use, and cultural activities. This has an impact on environmental sustainability and cultural establishment so that it seems as if it has a border from outside influences while also protecting cities from urbanization flows and environmental burdens

Abstract

Tanean Lanjhang is a traditional communal space of the Madurese community that embodies social, cultural, and kinship values through its distinctive spatial configuration. This study aims to understand how the spatial arrangement of Tanean Lanjhang supports social interaction and preserves cultural identity using a Space Syntax analysis approach. The research method integrates field surveys, spatial mapping with GIS, syntactic analysis using DepthmapX, and qualitative interviews with local communities. The findings reveal that the central open space of Tanean Lanjhang exhibits high levels of integration and connectivity, serving as a hub for communal activities and reinforcing social cohesion. Meanwhile, private areas surrounding the courtyard show high control values, reflecting the social hierarchy within the extended Madurese family. The study also explores how adaptation to modernization alters spatial configurations while retaining core cultural values. These findings emphasize the importance of incorporating local wisdom into contemporary spatial planning and expand the application of Space Syntax to the study of traditional cultures.

Abstract

This study examines the sociocultural role of fences in the Kapasan Chinese settlements in Surabaya, Indonesia, focusing on their significance as physical and symbolic elements. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research investigates how fences serve as boundaries, provide security, and reflect cultural identity within a multiethnic urban environment. Through field observations, interviews, and visual documentation, findings reveal that fences encapsulate historical resilience, cultural values, and adaptive responses to urban challenges. They act as protective barriers, markers of social status, and mediums for cultural expression. However, modernization and generational shifts pose challenges to preserving traditional designs. This research contributes to understanding the interplay between architecture, culture, and societal dynamics in multicultural settings.
