Abstract

This research aims to investigate character values that can be applied on students through congkak game as it is used as a media of mathematics learning. This study used qualitative and quantitative combination or (Exploratory mixed methods designs). The first phase of qualitative data was taken through in-depth interviews to 5 selected informants using purposive sampling technique. The first phase of the data retrieval was intended to gather information related to the content of character values contained in  congkak game. All data interviews were analyzed thematically using NVivo qualitative analysis tool 10. Then, the second phase of the data was taken using a questionnaire to 46 students who were studying in grade V and VI in an elementary school (SD). The second phase of the data retrieval was intended to support the first phase of the research results, the entire data of the second phase analyzed descriptively using quantitative analysis tools SPSS Windows 18.0. Overall, the results of the two phases indicated that there were nine character values contained in the game congkak once it was used as a medium of mathematics learning. The nine-character values were honesty, discipline, hard working, creativity, curiosity, independent, communicativeness, responsibility and appreciation for achievements. The results also proved that the use of instructional media such as traditional game congkak can be used as an intermediary that can be used by teachers in mathematics learning process. In addition, this study shows that even though congkak game belongs to a traditional game among middle societies, in fact, there were characters values as it was investigated scientifically.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi apakah nilai-nilai karakter yang dapat ditanamkan terhadap peserta didik melalui permainan congkak jika digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode gabungan kualitatif dan kuantitatif atau Exploratory mixed methods designs. Data kualitatif tahap pertama diambil melalui wawancara mendalam (indepth interview) kepada 5 orang informan yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Seluruh data wawancara kemudian dianalisis secara tematik menggunakan alat analisis kualitatif Nvivo 10. Selanjutnya data tahap kedua diambil menggunakan angket kepada 46 orang peserta didik yang sedang belajar pada kelas V dan VI di sebuah Sekolah Dasar (SD). Seluruh data tahap kedua kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif menggunakan alat analisis kuantitatif SPSS Windows 18.0. Secara keseluruhan hasil analisis kedua tahapan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat sembilan nilai-nilai karakter yang terdapat di dalam permainan congkak jika digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran matematika, sembilan nilai karakter tersebut adalah nilai kejujuran, disiplin, kerja keras, kreatif, rasa ingin tahu, mandiri, komunikatif, tanggung jawab dan menghargai prestasi. Hasil penelitian juga telah membuktikan bahwa, penggunaan media pembelajaran seperti permainan tradisional congkak telah terbukti dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu media yang dapat digunakan guru dalam pendidikan karakter. Kata kunci: Nilai-nilai karakter, permainan Congkak, media pembelajaran            Abstract: The objective of the study is to explore values of good moral characters that can be promoted through game of congkak when it is used as a media of learning. The study used both qualitative and quantitative research method (Exploratory mixed methods designs). The first qualitative data was collected through indepth interview with five informants selected through purposive sampling technique. The entire interview data was thematically analyzed by using Nvivo 10. The second data was collected through questionnaire distributed to 46 students of grade V and VI in an elementary school. The whole data in the second stage was analyzed through SPSS Windows 18.0. All data analysis reveals that there are nine moral characters can be promoted in congkak when it is used as media of learning in Math. Those characters are honesty, discipline, hard work, creativity, curiosity, independence, communicative, responsibility, and rewarding-respect. The study either reveals that the traditional game like congkak can be benefited as a learning media for character education. Keywords: good moral characters, Congkak, Learners, and Media of learning

Abstract

Kemampuan penalaran matematis merupakan kunci untuk mengembangkan pemahaman matematis siswa. Oleh karena itu, kemampuan ini dijadikan sebagai salah satu tujuan pembelajaran matematika pada jenjang pendidikan menengah di Indonesia. Salah satu jenis penalaran matematis tersebut adalah penalaran kreatif matematis. Fakta menunjukkan bahwa siswa cenderung menggunakan penalaran imitatif daripada penalaran kreatif matematis. Oleh karena itu, penalaran kreatif siswa perlu diperhatikan guru agar mereka dapat mengkonstruksi pengetahuan dengan baik khususnya pada materi persamaan garis lurus. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap penalaran imitatif dan kreatif matematis siswa pada materi persamaan garis lurus. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di salah satu SMP di Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota, Sumatera Barat. Subjek penelitian adalah 3 (tiga) orang siswa kelas VIII  yang telah mempelajari materi persamaan garis lurus dan dipilih berdasarkan pertimbangan guru. Instrumen utama pada penelitian ini adalah peneliti sendiri dan instrumen penunjang berupa soal tes kemampuan penalaran kreatif matematis serta pedoman wawancara. Berdasarkan analisis hasil penelitian, ditemukan bahwa siswa belum memiliki kemampuan penalaran kreatif  yang baik. Siswa masih cenderung menggunakan penalaran imitatif bahkan belum mampu melakukan penalaran dengan tepat. Sebagai kesimpulan, kemampuan penalaran imitatif masih mendominasi dibandingkan penalaran kreatif matematis siswa pada materi persamaan garis lurus.Mathematical reasoning ability is the key to developing students' mathematical understanding. Therefore, this ability is used as one of the objectives of learning mathematics in secondary education in Indonesia. Mathematical creative reasoning is one type of mathematical reasoning. The facts show that students use imitative rather than creative mathematical reasoning. Therefore, students' creative reasoning needs to be considered by the teacher so they can construct their knowledge properly, especially in straight-line equations. This study aims to reveal mathematical students' imitative and creative reasoning in the material of straight-line equations. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. This research was conducted in one of the junior high schools in Lima Puluh Kota, West Sumatra. The research subjects were 3 (three) grade VIII students who had studied straight-line equations and were selected based on the teacher's considerations. The main instrument in this study was the researcher herself. The supporting instruments were mathematical creative reasoning ability tests and interview guidelines. Based on the result of research analysis, it was found that students did not have good creative reasoning abilities. Students still tend to use imitative reasoning and have not even been able to do reasoning properly. In conclusion, imitative reasoning ability still dominates compared to students' creative mathematical reasoning in straight-line equation material.

Abstract

Kemampuan penalaran kreatif matematis merupakan kemampuan yang penting untuk dikuasai siswa. Kenyataannya, kemampuan penalaran kreatif matematis siswa cenderung bermasalah. Salah satu hal yang diyakini berpengaruh terhadap kesulitan siswa dalam memecahkan masalah pada matematika adalah beban kognitif intrinsic yang dihadapi. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan secara mendalam gambaran kemampuan penalaran kreatif siswa ditinjau berdasarkan beban kognitif intrinsic. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain fenomenologi.  Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII di salah satu MTs Negeri di Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota, Provinsi Sumatera Barat yang telah mempelajari materi bangun ruang sisi datar. Data dikumpulkan melalui teknik tes dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang memiliki beban kognitif intrinsic rendah dapat melakukan penalaran kreatif matematis dengan cukup konsisten. Siswa yang memiliki beban kognitif intrinsic sedang cukup bisa melakukan penalaran kreatif matematis tetapi belum konsisten. Sedangkan siswa yang memiliki beban kognitif intrinsic tinggi hampir tidak dapat melakukan penalaran kreatif matematis. Sebagai kesimpulan, diperoleh bahwa semakin rendah beban kognitif intrinsic yang dialamisiswa, semakin baik kemampuan penalaran kreatif matematis yang ia miliki. Berdasarkan kesimpulan tersebut, direkomendasikan untuk melakukan penelitian yang mengacu kepada penggunaan desain pembelajaran yang tepat untuk mengembangkan kemampuan penalaran kreatif matematis siswa pada masa yang akan datang. Mathematical creative reasoning is an essential ability for students. In reality, students' mathematical creative reasoning skills tend to be problematic. One thing that is believed to affect students' difficulties in solving problems in mathematics is the intrinsic cognitive load they face. Therefore, this study aims to describe students' creative reasoning abilities regarding intrinsic cognitive load in depth. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII from one of the state Islamic junior high schools in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra Province, which studied the materials for flat and solid geometry. Data was collected through test and interview techniques. The study results show that students with low intrinsic cognitive load can consistently perform creative mathematical reasoning. Students with moderate intrinsic cognitive load can do creative mathematical reasoning but are inconsistent. Meanwhile, students with a high intrinsic cognitive load can almost not do creative mathematical reasoning. In conclusion, it is found that the lower the intrinsic cognitive load experienced by students, the better their creative mathematical reasoning abilities will be. Based on the conclusion, research is recommended to use suitable learning designs to develop students' mathematical creative reasoning skills in the future.

Fiqh Munakahat is a branch of jurisprudence that explains the legal rules regarding marriage starting from the marriage contract to household rules. The film Ayat-Ayat Cinta continues the film Verses of Love in the first series. This study aims to analyze the content of fiqh Munakahat material. In the film Ayat-Ayat Cinta. This article was written using a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. The data source is taken from the video film Ayat-Ayat Cinta with a duration of 2:06:54 (two hours, six minutes, fifty-four seconds) through document analysis used by researchers as a data collection technique, all documents are supporting data that can be used as supporting data for research related to the issues and problems being studied. All document analysis results are then analyzed by describing the data obtained from the word in dialogue and image forms in movie scenes using the Analysis Interactive Milles & Hubberman as a method and tool for analyzing qualitative research data. Overall, the results of the analysis show that there are five contents of fiqh munakahat material in the film Ayat-Ayat Cinta, namely khitbah, marriage contract, rights and obligations of husband and wife, and polygamy. The results of this study can be used as lesson material for young married couples to live the life of a household ark.

Abstract

Mathematical reasoning skills are one of the goal in mathematics learning that must be achieved by students. But in reality at SMP Negeri 2 Payakumbuh this ability is still not optimal and don’t facilitated yet for improving those skill well. One effort to overcome these problems is to apply the Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, Transferring(REACT) model. The aims of this research is to describe the differences in the ability of student's mathematical reasoning using REACT model with the ability of student's mathematical reasoning using conventional learning model. The types of research is quasi-experimental with Randomized Control-Group Only Design. The authentication of the research hypotheses using t-test. Based on the results of data analysis, it was concluded that the mathematical reasoning skills of students who learn using the REACT model is better than the mathematical reasoning skills of students who learn by conventional learning in class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Payakumbuh. Keywords — Mathematical reasoning skills, REACT, Conventional learning

Abstract

This research examined how ICT-supported contextual learning approaches impact elementary students' math learning, cognitive growth, and participation. A quasi-experimental study was conducted with 120 fifth-grade students from four schools in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia, who were separated into experimental and control groups. The experimental group was taught using contextual learning models assisted by ICT, while the control group received conventional instruction. Standardized mathematics achievement tests, cognitive development assessments, and student engagement and motivation measures were used to collect data. Significant progress was noted in the experimental group for all measures, with substantial effects seen in academic performance (d = 1.46), cognitive growth (d = 1.16), involvement (d = 1.45), and drive (d = 1.47). These results indicate that incorporating ICT into contextual learning can improve elementary math education through better academic results, cognitive growth, and increased student participation and drive. The research adds to the increasing number of studies on incorporating technology in early childhood education and offers insights into educational policies and practices.

Abstract

Creative reasoning and cognitive load management are two essential aspects in learning mathematics because they directly affect students' ability to understand concepts, develop solving strategies, and produce innovative solutions to mathematical problems. This study aims to explore the relationship between extraneous cognitive load and creative reasoning ability of elementary school students in solving geometry problems.  This research used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects were 27 elementary school students who have learned the material of building space. Data were collected through extraneous cognitive load questionnaire, mathematical creative reasoning test, and interviews. Data analysis was done descriptively and thematically with reference to three indicators of creative reasoning, namely mathematical foundation, plausibility, and novelty, as well as five indicators of extraneous cognitive load: split attention, redundancy, transiency, advanced learner, and inadequate prior knowledge. The results showed that the higher the extraneous cognitive load experienced by students, the lower the creative reasoning score they achieved. Students with low extraneous cognitive load were able to understand information, develop logical strategies, and produce original solutions. In contrast, students with high extraneous cognitive load had difficulty understanding instructions, made mistakes in choosing strategies, and did not show flexible thinking skills. These findings reinforce the importance of learning design that takes into account students' cognitive working capacity. The implication of this research leads to the importance of teachers designing geometry lessons that have minimal instructional load, using effective visual media, and composing questions that are in accordance with students' abilities so that the creative thinking process can develop optimally.
