Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into educational systems has accelerated the transformation of knowledge production, access, and governance across institutional settings. While extensive research has examined the technological and pedagogical impacts of AI in education, limited studies have explored how AI adoption interacts with educational institutions grounded in religious epistemological traditions. This study investigates the dynamics of digital knowledge systems, Islamic epistemology, and artificial intelligence adoption in pesantren education. The research focuses on how AI technologies are implemented in learning and administrative processes, how they influence patterns of knowledge accessibility, and how institutional governance responds to the emergence of algorithmically mediated knowledge environments. Using a qualitative institutional approach, data were collected through interviews, document analysis, and field observations in selected pesantren institutions undergoing digital transformation. The findings indicate that AI adoption enhances learning accessibility, instructional efficiency, and administrative effectiveness while simultaneously generating a hybrid knowledge environment in which digital information systems coexist with teacher-centered interpretive authority. The study highlights that sustainable AI integration depends on leadership commitment, governance frameworks, and digital literacy development to ensure responsible and context-sensitive technology utilization.

Abstract

This article examines the role of qawāʿid fiqhiyyah (Islamic legal maxims) as a methodological framework for addressing contemporary legal issues in Islamic law. Employing a qualitative normative-analytical approach, the study analyzes classical juridical texts and contemporary Islamic legal scholarship to explore how legal maxims function in modern legal reasoning. The findings demonstrate that qawāʿid fiqhiyyah operate not merely as doctrinal summaries, but as active instruments that structure juristic reasoning, mediate between normative sources and social realities, and guide legal judgment in contexts marked by complexity and uncertainty. The analysis further reveals that legal maxims play a crucial role in operationalizing the objectives of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-sharīʿah), particularly in areas related to legal certainty, harm prevention, facilitation, and contextual adaptation. By bridging classical doctrine and contemporary socio-legal challenges, qawāʿid fiqhiyyah enable Islamic law to maintain methodological coherence while remaining responsive to change. This study argues that the continued relevance of Islamic law in the modern era depends not on normative rupture, but on the reactivation of its internal juristic methodologies, with legal maxims serving as one of its most robust and adaptable tools.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of financial technology has transformed consumer credit markets in Muslim societies, particularly through the proliferation of Buy Now Pay Later (paylater) services. While these digital deferred payment schemes are often promoted as flexible and Sharia-compliant alternatives to conventional credit, their legal positioning remains deeply contested. This article examines the legal ambiguities surrounding fintech paylater by analysing the tension between Sharia compliance and consumer protection within contemporary regulatory frameworks. Drawing on qualitative doctrinal and regulatory analysis, the study engages with Islamic legal discourse, consumer protection law, and fintech governance literature to explore how legal legitimacy is constructed and contested in digital financial markets. The findings demonstrate that Sharia compliance in fintech paylater is predominantly established through contractual formalism, focusing on permissible legal forms rather than substantive economic and behavioural outcomes. This approach, while facilitating regulatory acceptance, often fails to address consumer vulnerabilities arising from information asymmetry, over-indebtedness, and penalty-based revenue structures. Moreover, the study reveals that fragmented governance characterised by the institutional separation of financial regulators, consumer protection authorities, and Sharia governance bodies plays a central role in sustaining legal ambiguity. Compliance with religious norms does not necessarily translate into effective consumer protection, allowing fintech providers to navigate regulatory boundaries selectively. By foregrounding legal ambiguity and governance fragmentation, this article contributes to scholarly debates on Islamic fintech regulation and consumer law. It challenges the assumption that formal Sharia compliance inherently ensures ethical financial practices and argues for integrated regulatory approaches that reconcile religious legitimacy with substantive consumer protection. The study offers conceptual insights relevant to legal scholars, policymakers, and regulators grappling with the complexities of digital deferred payment systems in Muslim societies.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has transformed early childhood education, creating both opportunities and challenges for integrating educational innovation with religious and moral development. Although numerous studies have examined digital learning and Islamic education independently, limited research has synthesized these perspectives into a comprehensive conceptual framework for early childhood education. This study aims to synthesize the existing literature on Islamic values-based digital learning and propose a conceptual framework to support future educational practice and research. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Relevant studies published between 2015 and 2026 were retrieved from Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and Dimensions using predefined search strategies and eligibility criteria. The selected studies were analyzed through thematic synthesis to identify recurring patterns, research trends, and core conceptual dimensions. The findings reveal that effective digital learning in early childhood education depends on the integration of six interconnected dimensions: Islamic values, digital pedagogical design, teacher competence, parental engagement, technological infrastructure, and holistic child development. The review also demonstrates that Islamic values should function as the philosophical foundation guiding the design and implementation of digital learning rather than merely serving as complementary instructional content. Based on these findings, this study proposes the Islamic Values-Based Digital Learning Framework for Early Childhood Education, providing a theoretical foundation for future empirical research and practical guidance for educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers seeking to implement meaningful, ethical, and developmentally appropriate digital learning in Islamic educational settings.

Abstract

This study examines the role of religiosity in student character formation within vocational education by analyzing the mediating effects of learning motivation and literacy. Employing a quantitative correlational design with an ex post facto approach, the study analyzes survey data collected from 381 students enrolled in public vocational secondary schools in Indonesia (N = 381). Religiosity is conceptualized as a multidimensional construct encompassing belief, practice, experience, and social consequences, while student character is defined as an integrated set of cognitive, moral, and socio-emotional dispositions. Data were analyzed using regression-based mediation analysis within a structural equation modeling framework, indicating that religiosity has a positive and statistically significant direct effect on student character. In addition, learning motivation and literacy function as significant mediating variables, demonstrating partial mediation in the relationship between religiosity and character formation. These findings suggest that religious values influence character development not only through direct moral orientation, but also indirectly by strengthening students’ motivational engagement and interpretive capacities. By empirically testing a mediated model of character formation, this study advances a mechanism-oriented understanding of how values, motivation, and literacy interact in vocational education. The findings contribute theoretically to research on character education and religious education, while practically underscoring the importance of integrating ethical values, motivational support, and literacy development in holistic vocational education models.
