Abstract

Bandung Metropolitan Area is the second largest metropolitan area in Indonesia. Bandung Metropolitan Area also represents the type of metropolitan in Asia which has massive urbanization characteristic that caused by increasing economic growth. This research aims to analyze the spatial diversity of the factors influencing urban sprawl in Bandung Metropolitan Area. The data used in this study were secondary data consisting of Landsat satellite imagery and facilities data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in the year of 2003 and 2014. The methodology used in this study was Geograpically Weighted Regression (GWR) analysis. The results showed that each variables has a different influence on each locations. Population density variable has a positive effect on the percentage of built up area. Whereas the variable of distance to Bandung City, the percentage of paddy field area, the percentage of forest area, and the distance to the toll road has a negative effect on the percentage of built up area. While the effect of the District Development Index variable toward the percentage of built up area varies in each research location.

Abstract

Metode USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation) adalah pendekatan yang sering digunakan untuk menghitung laju erosi tanah. Dalam konteks pengukuran nilai ekonomi ekologi, metode ini membantu mengidentifikasi dampak erosi terhadap produktivitas lahan dan ekosistem. Beberapa penelitian telah menunjukkan bahwa erosi tanah dapat menyebabkan hilangnya unsur hara penting, yang pada akhirnya memengaruhi nilai ekonomi lahan. Penerapan metode USLE memberikan banyak manfaat, terutama dalam konteks pengelolaan sumber daya alam dan konservasi tanah. Metode USLE menjadi alat yang penting bagi para ahli lingkungan, perencana tata ruang, dan pembuat kebijakan untuk memastikan pengelolaan sumber daya alam yang berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Gender inequality in formal land ownership remains evident, particularly within indigenous communities, even though land rights are legally guaranteed equally for all citizens. This study evaluates the distribution of land ownership based on gender and to analyze the effectiveness of land registration programs, particularly the Complete Systematic Land Registration program, in North Sumatra Province. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research combines legal ethnography with quantitative analysis. Data were collected through field observations, focus group discussions, interviews with relevant stakeholders, and a literature review. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) were used to visualize the spatial distribution of land ownership. legal ethnography examined tenure systems and legal-cultural practices in the study sites. The research was conducted in two locations representing different socio-spatial contexts: Samosir Regency (rural-traditional) and Deli Serdang Regency (sub-urban). The findings reveal gender inequality in land ownership. Spatial analysis indicates that men dominate land ownership with 50.52%, while women account for 38.76%, and the remaining 10.72% of the data lack gender identification. The legal ethnographic analysis further shows that the patrilineal system and administrative barriers in land registration—such as the absence of gender-disaggregated data—continue to sustain the marginalization of women in obtaining equal land rights. The study concludes that regional transitions from rural to sub-urban settings provides greater opportunities for women to access land ownership. However, current government programs remain gender-neutral in design, which may inadvertently reinforce existing inequalities.

Abstract

Abstract: Java Island's urbanization has reached a critical stage, with population densities expanding to the suburbs in addition to the city center. One of the most vulnerable locations under fast demographic pressure is Klaten Regency, which is a part of the Surakarta Raya (Subosukawonosraten) supporting area. This condition is consistent with the growing demand for developed land, which has led to urban sprawl in Klaten Regency's northern part, especially in the districts of Ceper, Delanggu, and Polanharjo. As a result, a significant amount of agricultural land has been transformed into developed regions. The purpose of this study is to determine the causes of urban sprawl as well as shifts in agricultural land use to built-up regions. This study uses a quantitative descriptive research method with a spatial approach by overlaying land use imagery from 2017 and 2025 collected from Sentinel 2 imagery, followed by Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) analysis. According to the overlay data, urban sprawl has resulted in a significant rise in built-up areas of 375,02 ha (37.95%). The GWR analysis's findings show that accessibility, population growth, and the proportion of agricultural land in the study area are the main causes of urban sprawl. In industrial regions like Ceper Sub-District, land conversion is more significantly impacted by demographic pressure. Meanwhile, the accessibility and agricultural land area variables have a stronger influence in Polanharjo and Delanggu Sub-Districts.   Keywords: Urban Sprawl, Land Use Change, Causal Factors   Abstrak: Urbanisasi di Pulau Jawa telah mencapai titik krusial, di mana pemusatan aktivitas penduduk tidak hanya di pusat kota, melainkan menjalar ke wilayah pinggiran kota. Kabupaten Klaten sebagai bagian dari kawasan penunjang Surakarta Raya (Subosukawonosraten) menjadi salah satu titik paling rentan mengalami tekanan demografis yang pesat. Hal ini sejalan dengan meningkatnya kebutuhan  lahan terbangun yang memicu fenomena urban sprawl di wilayah utara Kabupaten Klaten, khususnya di Kecamatan Ceper, Delanggu, dan Polanharjo yang menyebabkan perubahan penggunaan lahan pertanian menjadi lahan terbangun secara masif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi perubahan penggunaan lahan pertanian menjadi lahan terbangun dan faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya urban sprawl. Penelitian ini menerapkan metode penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif dengan pendekatan spasial, berupa overlay citra penggunaan lahan pada tahun 2017 dan 2025, serta analisis Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR). Hasil overlay menunjukkan adanya peningkatan lahan terbangun secara masif seluas 375,02 ha (37.95%). Hasil analisis GWR menunjukkan bahwa urban sprawl di lokasi kajian disebabkan oleh pertumbuhan jumlah penduduk, tingginya aksesibilitas, serta luasan lahan pertanian. Tekanan demografis memiliki dampak yang lebih signifikan terhadap konversi lahan di wilayah industri seperti Ceper. Sedangkan variabel aksesibilitas dan luas lahan pertanian memiliki pengaruh yang lebih kuat di Kecamatan Polanharjo dan Kecamatan Delanggu. Abstract

The examination of land-use dynamics is crucial to enhancing land utilization and promoting economic development and environmental sustainability. The objective of this study was to examine the spatiotemporal dynamics of land use and its impact on the agricultural sectors. The employed research methodology was a mixed-methods approach, incorporating spatial analysis of land-use changes and qualitative descriptive methods. This study utilized images captured by the Sentinel satellite in 2015, 2020, and 2025. Land use change analysis was conducted using an overlay. Interpretation was then performed under the supervision of a maximum-likelihood algorithm, and the accuracy of the analysis was assessed using a confusion matrix. Meanwhile, a qualitative descriptive analysis was conducted to formulate a mitigation strategy to prevent further land degradation from tidal flooding. The results indicated that between 2015 and 2025, there were significant changes in land use, with residential areas expanding by 155 ha and industrial areas by 78 ha. Furthermore, the study revealed a 63-ha decline in mangroves, leading to the destruction of coastal barriers and a 26-ha increase in tidal flooding. The findings of this study demonstrated that the dynamics of land use brought on by tidal floods not only cause flooding and damage to infrastructure and settlements, but also result in the loss of land for agricultural and fish pond production, which provide a living for local people. Research indicates that the consequences of climate change result in substantial losses, necessitating the urgent integration of climate change considerations into development and spatial planning.

Abstract

The Semarang-Demak Toll Road National Strategic Project (PSN) is a solution to boost the economy, alleviate congestion, and adapt to climate change. The long-term construction of the Semarang-Demak toll road (2019–2023) has been hampered by land acquisition on the route inundated by tidal flooding. This study aims to analyze the problems and policies of land acquisition in cases of lost land. The research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach to examine the problems, policies, and governance issues of land acquisition in three villages (Bedono, Sriwulan, and Purwosari). The findings demonstrate that land subsidence and climate-induced tidal flooding caused the physical disappearance of land parcels, rendering standard statutory mechanisms inapplicable. Therefore, the government introduced a compassionate compensation scheme under Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2023 to mitigate the social impacts experienced by affected communities, as the assessment of this lost land has implications for the incapacity to provide compensation. This scheme is referred to as a compassionate fund (dana kerohiman). Although the scheme cannot fully compensate for the communities' economic and social losses, but on the other hand, this mechanism is a solution for handling social impacts on the community.

Abstract

By granting Land Use Rights (HGU) for plantation and agricultural sectors, which in the future is expected to facilitate carbon trading as well, the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) plays a crucial role in adapting for climate change. However, the authorities claimed that implementing the Polluter Pay Principles (PPP) for companies producing GHG emissions, such as palm oil plantations, are real steps in increasing the potential for carbon absorption and trading in Indonesia. Therefore, efforts are needed to clarify this statement by analyzing the impact of vegetation cover converted from forest to HGU areas towards the carbon stock values. The purpose of this study was to identify the variables influencing the spatial distribution of carbon stock values in the Tanah Laut Regency's HGU area. In order to map regions with high carbon stocks and meet emission reduction goals, the findings are then utilized to generate policy suggestions in the domain of sustainable plantation. The research employed quantitative methods alongside spatial analysis techniques, as well as qualitative methods through interviews with stakeholders in HGU management, including the Ministry of ATR/BPN, the South Kalimantan Regional Office, the Tanah Laut Regency Government, and HGU holders. The analysis results indicate that the carbon stock value differs across each HGU commodity, specifically rubber, cocoa, and palm oil. The mapping results of carbon stock distribution reveal that areas with minimal conversion possess high potential for carbon absorption.  The Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) analysis indicates that each variable influences locations differently. Water quality index and built-up land area show opposite values to carbon stock. The forest area has a positive value so that increasing forest area in a location will be directly proportional to the increase in carbon stock value, while the HGU area has a range of positive to negative values. It is expected that the study's findings will contribute to manage HGU permits more sustainably by taking environmental issues into account, particularly regarding assessing carbon stocks.
