Abstract

Pencak silat is the dominant sport using the feet and hands. Kicks in pencak silat require speed to produce points, the faster the kick is made, the more difficult it will be to stop, fend off, or catch. This study aims to describe the difference in front kick speed between two male and female athletes of the Indonesian national team who are the 2022 pencak silat world champions. The research method used in quantitative descriptive research with the subjects of 2022 world champion pencak silat athletes in male and female numbers. This research instrument uses a Fujifilm XT 4 camera with camera placement at a distance of 5 meters from the arena. The video results were analyzed using Kinovea 0.9.4 software by calculating the speed of the subject's Front Kicks. The male sample produced an average speed of 3.25 m/s with an average breakdown of a 1.82-meter kick distance and an average travel time of 0.56 seconds. The female sample produced an average speed of 2.71 m/s with details of an average 1.90-meter kick distance and an average travel time of 0.70 seconds. Abstract

Pencak silat is a martial sport that requires high explosive power of the leg muscles to support kick effectiveness, position change, and quick movement response during matches. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of low-intensity plyometric training for six weeks on the power ability of leg muscles in young pencak silat athletes. The sample in this study was 20 male pencak silat athletes at Garuda Silat Academy with an average age of 15.35 years (SD = +- 0.58). This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a one group pretest–posttest design. Leg muscle power is measured using a standing broad jump. The difference test used a paired samples t-test with a significance level of 0.05 and the data was analyzed using SPSS version 27.0.1.0. The results showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of <.001 which means there was a significant improvement after the intervention, leg muscle power measured using the standing broad jump increased by an average of 13.2-centimeters. In conclusion, six weeks of low-intensity plyometric training using a jumps-in-place model effectively enhanced lower-limb explosive power in adolescent pencak silat athletes. It is recommended that coaches consider incorporating progressively designed low-intensity plyometric exercises into long-term training programs, as they are safe, practical, and appropriate for supporting neuromuscular development while minimizing injury risk in young athletes.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the kinematic characteristics of front kick speed in regional level Pencak Silat athletes from South Lampung Regency preparing for the 10th Lampung Provincial Sports Week (PORPROV X) in 2026. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed involving ten athletes (six males and four females) who were actively participating in a centralized training program. Front kick performance was recorded using a high-speed Fujifilm X-T4 camera at 240 frames per second with a 50 mm focal length lens to minimize perspective distortion. The recorded videos were analyzed using Kinovea 2025.1.1 software through two-dimensional kinematic analysis. The measured variables included kick displacement, execution time, and average kick speed. The results showed that male athletes achieved higher average front kick speeds (2.75 m/s) than female athletes (2.33 m/s), primarily due to shorter execution times rather than greater displacement. Overall, performance was characterized by adequate movement range but lower temporal efficiency compared to values reported in elite athletes, indicating that execution time is a key determinant of front kick speed at the regional level. This study contributes to the biomechanics of Pencak Silat by providing empirical kinematic data at the provincial level and identifying execution time as a primary performance-limiting factor. These findings offer a biomechanical basis for targeted training interventions focusing on neuromuscular coordination, explosive strength, and movement acceleration. It can be concluded that improving temporal efficiency is critical to enhancing front kick performance. Future studies should incorporate larger samples and three-dimensional analysis for a more comprehensive understanding.

Abstract

Cycling performance is influenced by anthropometric characteristics and body composition that play a role in power production and motion efficiency. This study aims to describe the relationship of anthropometric characteristics and body composition with bicycle racing performance in adolescent mountain bike (MTB) athletes. The study used a descriptive quantitative design with a sample of three top-ranked athletes in the 2025 MTB criteria race in the 12-15 year age category in Lampung, Indonesia. Variables measured include completion time, final rating, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, and muscle mass percentage. Anthropometric Data were measured using a stadiometer, body composition using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), and racing performance was obtained from official competition records. Data analysis is done descriptively. The results showed that athletes with better performance tended to have a lower percentage of body fat and a higher percentage of muscle mass. Athletes with the fastest times had the most favorable body composition profiles, while BMI and general anthropometric measures did not show a consistent pattern of relationship with performance. Inferences of body composition, particularly low body fat and high muscle mass, are more related to cycling performance than to general anthropometric measures or BMI. However, these findings need to be interpreted carefully due to the very small sample size. Further studies are suggested involving larger samples and additional physiological variables.
