Abstract

Measurement skills are an important foundation in early childhood mathematics and science learning and play a role in building STEM readiness. Fun cooking activities, especially those based on traditional foods, provide concrete experiences that help children understand the concepts of weight, volume, and proportion in a cultural context that is close to their lives. This study is a systematic review using the PRISMA guidelines and the Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, SpringerLink, and Google Scholar databases. Of the 327 studies identified, 28 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed thematically. The results show that fun cooking can improve children's quantitative understanding, while the use of traditional foods reinforces the relevance of learning and cultural values. Teacher and parental guidance plays an important role in the scaffolding process, although challenges such as limited tools and curriculum adaptation are still found. Culture-based fun cooking is an effective approach to support measurement skills in early childhood STEM education, but further research is needed to assess the long-term impact.

This was supported by the results of direct interviews, observations, and document studies conducted by researchers on parenting practices among the Banjar ethnic group living in Samarinda. The purpose of this article is to present information related to strengthening the character of early childhood based on the Banjar ethnic parenting pattern. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method that refers to the concept of strengthening the character of early childhood based on the Banjar ethnic parenting pattern in the internalization of worship in children from an early age. Abstract

Children’s reading interest is a fundamental component of early literacy development and long-term academic success. Previous studies consistently indicate that parental involvement plays a decisive role in shaping children’s reading motivation and literacy achievement. This article aims to examine how strengthening parental involvement through a structured Home Literacy Program can improve children’s reading interest. Employing a mixed-methods approach, this study involved 120 elementary school students and their parents from three urban schools. Quantitative data were collected through reading interest questionnaires and parental involvement scales, while qualitative data were obtained through interviews and observation logs. The findings reveal that children whose parents actively participated in home-based literacy activities demonstrated significantly higher reading interest, motivation, and engagement compared to those in the control group. Moreover, parents reported improved confidence and awareness in supporting their children’s literacy development. These findings align with previous research emphasizing the importance of home–school partnerships and family literacy interventions. The study concludes that a well-designed Home Literacy Program can serve as an effective strategy for strengthening parental involvement and fostering sustainable reading interest among children.

Abstract

Non-formal Quranic educational institutions known as Taman Pendidikan Al-Qurʾān (TPA) play a strategic role in cultivating children's Islamic character; however, deficiencies in Quranic recitation proficiency, comprehension of daily supplications, and the practical internalisation of Islamic etiquette remain prevalent challenges in many TPA settings, including TPA At-Taqwa in Kelurahan Air Tiris, Kecamatan Kampar, Kabupaten Kampar, Riau Province. This community service programme aimed to strengthen the Islamic character of children through three integrated activities: Quranic tahsin instruction, daily prayer memorisation, and Islamic etiquette education. The programme was conducted as part of the Thematic Community Field Study (KKNT) of STAI As-Sunnah Deli Serdang in collaboration with TPA At-Taqwa Air Tiris, involving 50 child participants aged six to twelve years over the period of 3 to 17 March 2025. The Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach was employed as the overarching framework, with the talaqqi method applied specifically for Quranic and supplication instruction. The findings indicate that approximately 80 per cent of participants demonstrated measurable improvement in Quranic recitation ability and prayer memorisation, while 70 per cent responded correctly to etiquette-related questions in the evaluation quiz. Children also exhibited positive behavioural changes in daily life, including the spontaneous recitation of appropriate supplications, the correct performance of ritual purification (wuḍūʾ), and the adoption of courteous conduct in social interactions. This programme demonstrates that a structured, habituation-based approach effectively reinforces Islamic character formation in children at the grassroots level.

Abstract

Emotional regulation is a critical developmental competence for children with intellectual disabilities, particularly in inclusive primary school settings. This study examined the strengthening of emotional regulation through social-emotional group guidance. A quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach was employed. Participants consisted of six children with intellectual disabilities enrolled in an inclusive primary school. Emotional regulation was assessed using a structured observational scale administered before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (Z = −2.201; p = 0.031), indicating a gradual improvement in emotional regulation following the group guidance program. These findings suggest that social-emotional group guidance is a relevant and developmentally appropriate approach to supporting emotional regulation within school-based counseling services in inclusive education.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought major changes to education, but the digital literacy gap persists at the elementary school level, especially in rural areas. Children are required to have technological skills and internet ethics from an early age, while the infrastructure, curriculum, and teacher capacity remain inadequate. This condition underscores the importance of research on children’s digital literacy as a foundation for the development of smart, ethical digital citizens. This study aims to analyze the role of Gerak Selaras in improving the digital literacy of elementary school children in Samarinda through the Selaras Mengajar program. The study uses a qualitative case study design through interviews, observations, and documentation. The analysis was conducted to understand the strategies, participation, and social values underlying community activities. The results show that Gerak Selaras plays a significant role in building contextual digital literacy through the development of a locally-based curriculum, the application of participatory methods, and the support of volunteers and partners. Despite resource and funding limitations, the values of solidarity and cooperation are the movement’s main strengths in sustaining itself. This research confirms that Gerak Selaras is a community education model that bridges the digital literacy gap among children and contributes to the development of collaborative policies towards inclusive and sustainable digital education.
