Abstract

The presence of social media appears to be the hardest to restrain people from posting captions, sharing photos and videos, or merely leaving comments. Throughout the time of the presidential election, the Indonesian social media were embroidered with the dispute between Jokowi’s and Prabowo‘s influencers. This ‘battle’ reached its climax when Joko Widodo was announced to be the winner. The netizens’ comments on the announcement of the Indonesian presidential election posted on the lambe_turah Instagram page are the center of attention of this study. Due to the great amount of the comments, the data were randomly limited to the first 100 comments involving both allies. Since most prior researches were conducted with a psychological approach, this article endeavors to see people's identity from a linguistics viewpoint. The Appraisal framework was applied to classify the data. The results of the study divulge the social identity between the two parties. Jokowi’s followers were likely to deliver their satisfaction by deriding their opponents. These findings are reinforced with the linguistic evidence revealing the upmost presence of Judgement over Affect and Appreciation; both negative and positive. Likewise, Prabowo’s influencers also declared their disaffection and distrust by scoffing KPU and their contenders. Their Attitudes are negatively conveyed for the most part. In conclusion, the netizens’ written remarks left on lambe_turah Instagram post are assessed containing Attitudes, in which the writers tend to show negative Attitudes to the group they do not belong, no matter they win or lose.

In the 21 century, colleges are the most impacted institutions by societal dynamics that need a shift in curriculum substance to one that is more adaptable to students' interests, needs, and expectations. The Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology issued a policy Number 754/P/2020, which encourages students to master numerous sciences systematically, so as to produce quality graduates with mastery of soft skills and hard skills, capable of work professionally according to the disciplines they master, and master ICT. Therefore, researcher is interested in creating prototypes of blended learning-based pragmatic teaching materials. Using the Dick and Carey development model, this research is categorized as R&D. The research stage starts from a preliminary study followed by design, development, assessment and revision, and dissemination. The findings revealed that expert validation, small-scale field trials, and large-scale field trials all contributed to the final outcome of the creation of blended learning-based pragmatic teaching materials. Materials and content on pragmatic blended-learning teaching materials consist of 10 learning subjects. There are materials for online learning as well as ones for in-person learning. Each topic contains two major components: learning resources and learning activities. The final outcome of the production of pragmatics teaching materials based on blended learning is certified legitimate, practical, and effective for use in pragmatic learning.

Abstract

The history of America cannot be separated from squatting. When European people came to the eastern coast of America in 1600s, they had lived in the settlement that did not belong to them.  They did not stop living in the settlement, rather, they kept moving to the West to look for better life.  The discovery of gold in California made them move to the West although they underwent difficulties along their journey.  This study attempts to explore squatting in American culture in James Fenimore Cooper’s novel The Prairie.  This research uses Cultural Studies method, in which literary, historical and sociological approaches are combined to analyse a certain phenomenon on a text.  History and sociology are used in the research because they complement the existing sources in the literature.  The data are mainly taken from James Fenimore Copper’s novel, namely, The Prairie.  The novel is used in the research as starting points to describe squatting, and then the development of it can be described in American Culture.  Other data are taken from film, magazines, newspapers and historical and sociological articles, as well as articles from American Studies Journal.  Based on the research, squatting emerges because the squatters do not have enough money to buy or to rent the land for their settlement.  Besides, the squatters usually assume that the land that belongs to Indians can be occupied or owned without having to pay it.

Abstract

This article aims to describe children's literature as a means of learning language skills for children. Children's literature is literature aimed at children. Children's literature is literature that reflects the feelings and experiences of children through children's views on topics that are close to the child's world, including humans, fauna, and flora. Through literature, a child indirectly learns language skills as well. Children's literature is also important because it teaches young learners a variety of lessons. It also gives them opportunities to engage with literature; teaches them an appreciation for their cultural heritage; fosters emotional intelligence and creativity; fosters the growth and development of the children’s personality and social skills; and conveys important literature from one generation to the next. Children's literature needs to be developed and taught from an early age so that young learners have good personalities and are knowledgeable. It can be a valuable resource, particularly in language teaching. Learning language skills is applied through the introduction of three literary genres, namely: 1) poetry in the form of children's songlines and children's rhymes; 2) prose in the form of fantasy fairy tales and folk tales; and 3) drama in the form of stories with simple dialogues.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze illocutionary speech acts and types of hate speech in comments on @indraakenz's Twitter account because of the polemic in his post about being born poor is a privilege. It’s caused a polemic because of a misperception of the meaning of Privilege. That utterance is considered to have no human value because essentially people who are born poor do not have special rights. In this study, the illocutionary speech act theory proposed by Searle was used to analyze the types of speech acts in the comments column of Indraakenz's account. Searle (1976) mentions five illocutionary acts: assertive, directive, expressive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. The results are then classified into types of hate hatred based on the Circular Letter of the Chief of Police Number SE/6/X/2015 to find out the types of hatred that most often arise. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis. In this study, it was found that the type of hatred that often appears is like. The conclusion is the type of hate in the comments is aimed at insulting the honor and reputation of the account owner so that s(he) feels ashamed.

Abstract

The legend of Puragabaya is part of the Galunggung Tasikmalaya folklore which has the potential of Sundanese cultural wealth and needs to be revitalized to maintain its existence. The legend of Puragabaya tells of a special warrior figure Prabu Siliwangi who was educated and forged physically and mentally at the Galunggung Invisibility Pesantren. The figure of Puragabaya contains elements of wisdom, persistence, and tenacity, representing the cultural and social values of the Galunggung community. The revitalization of legends in this study was represented through the videography of poetry musicals. The process of revitalizing the Puragabaya legend is based on the concept of art-based research which aims to present the form of the Puragabaya. The implementation of art-based research to revitalize legends involves the process of creating literary works of art and literary performances consisting of poetry musicalization, poetry reading, and poetry dramatization. In addition, painting and dance work as a form of legend representation are collaborated into videography to add aesthetic power. The results of the study show that the process of revitalizing legends as part of oral literature shows more concrete results by using art-based research that utilizes technological developments.
