Abstract

This study aims to obtain an overview of improving students' critical thinking skills and communication skills whose learning activities use integrated blended learning of local wisdom. Learning activities are carried out by modifying blended learning stages, namely at the seeking information stage. The research subjects were 109 students of the 2nd semester of science education study program. The research was conducted using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest design. The instrument used was a multiple-choice test using an assessment rubric and an observation sheet. The research data were analyzed using multivariate analysis. The results showed that the improvement of students' critical thinking and communication skills with blended learning (treatment class) was more significant than students whose blended learning was not integrated with local wisdom. Keywords: blended learning, local wisdom, critical thinking skills, communication skills

Abstract

Science process skill is used as basic skill in learning of science, according to the real science include the aspects of attitude, process, product, and application as a whole skill. The purpose of this research is to know increase of students’ science process skill after used worksheet which is developed. The kind of this research is development research adopt development model of Dick and Carey, with using descriptive research methods. The subject of this research is the VII grade students at SMPN 2 Sumenep academic year 2017/2018. The result of data testing shows that students’ science process skill increase with N-gain average 0,7 high criteria. Worksheet was chosen to be developed as learning material in this research, because worksheet can support the effectivity of learning based science process skill. Worksheet that had been developed can be used as learning material to increase students’ science process skill through observation by using media of terrarium.

Abstract

This research aimed to tested the effect of extract on Vigna radiata L. germination. Tested the effect of crude extract of A. nilotica leaves on germination was conducted experimentally using Factorial Completely Randomized Design (FCRD). The first fact or was the type of crude extract and the second factor was levels of extract concentration. The result showed that the application of aqueous and ethanol extract enhanced all parameters of V. radiata L. germination (percentage of seed germination, rate of seed germination, radicle length, seedling fresh weight). Application of lower concentration (0,25%) of aqueous and ethanol extract increased speed of germination, radicle length, and fresh weight of seed. The application of 75% aqueous extract increased the percentage of germination to 100% than control and another treatment. However, further research is needed to confirm the effect of this plant extract on the vegetative growth of Vigna radiata L.Keyword: Acacia nilotica, aqueous extract, ethanol extract, seed germinatio

Abstract

Visual learning devices can be instructional tools utilised by the instructors globally. However, despite its relevance for teaching, the awareness of its use have not been notably established. Therefore, the study examined the impact of visual learning devices on secondary school (SS) biology students’ academic performance in Ilorin, Nigeria.  Study was of descriptive of the survey type and sampled were 100 teachers and 139 students in Ilorin, Nigeria. The instrument was the researchers-designed questionnaire which was validated by two Biology educators, two educational technologists and a test, measurement and evaluation specialist. Whereas, the face and content and pilot tested were observed with Cronbach alpha, and reliability coefficients were recorded at 0.05 level of significance. Seven research questions were raised and answered while three research hypotheses were formulated and tested. Findings revealed a significant difference between male and female students; between the students in SS I. II, and III and between the rural and urban schools students on impact of visual learning devices on students’ academic performance. Therefore, the study concluded that visual learning devices has impact on students’ academic performance. Hence, the use of visual learning devices was recommended for all secondary schools in Nigeria for the teaching of Biology. Keyword: learning devices, academic performance, biology students, impact

Abstract

With the developing information technologies in the new century, changes are experienced in every area of life and its reflections are seen in different areas. One of its reflections in the field of education is the E-exams, which have been used as an alternative to paper-pencil exams for years. Academic studies are needed for the integration of e-exams in the field of education and training. Thus, this new technology can be used efficiently in the field of education. Students' views, which are at the center of education and training, are of special importance for the proper use of the e-exam. In this study, how the student views on E-exam applications in science education is examined. The study was carried out with students studying science at higher education level. As a data collection tool, a prepared questionnaire form was used. As a result of the findings obtained, it was revealed that student views towards E-exam in science education were significantly positive and that E-exam instead of K-exam was positively welcomed by the student.

Abstract

Thin film copper-based RTD still has a low TCR. Hence, plating a Cu-based RTD with nickel will develop a higher TCR. TCR is the sensitivity of RTD’s value in response to temperature change. The experimental design in constructing Cu/Ni thin film by using the electroplating method with a concentration of solution and electrode spacing’s variation has been done. Electroplating is performed with a concentration of solution and electrode spacing’s variations. Electroplating processed by limiting DC voltage to 6 volts. Electrolyte solutions composition were NiSO4, Ni2Cl2, H3BO3 and aquades. Concentrations of solutions can be varied by changing NiSO4 and Ni2Cl2 masses. Based on these concentrations of solutes and electrode’s spacing, this research used 15 samples. Thickness, thin-film resistance, and temperature sensor test are performed to each sample. The purpose of thickness test is to measure nickel plates which were formed from the electroplating process. Thin-film resistance test performed to measure sample resistance changing to the electroplating process, and the temperature sensor test was performed to measures the sample’s sensitivity in responding to temperature changes. This research’s result shows the greater the concentrations of solutes used for copper electroplating, the thicker nickel plates will form. This condition makes its resistance’s value decreasing. Keywords: thin layer resistance, concentration of the solution, electrode distance, electroplating, thin layers of Cu / Ni, RTD, modules

Abstract

Evaluation activities of biology learning process for learners is teachers’ and education units’ responsibility. An authentic assessment is crucial to be implemented in the learning process so that learners could be guided to have abilities in knowledge as well as attitudes and skills. The research aims in 2019 is to observe 50 biology teachers’ differences in biology teachers’ skills in Bekasi Regency, Indoensia in mastering authentic assessment knowledge in biology learning before and after the implementation of training activities through a Scientific Approach-based Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (Cirsa).  Cirsa, a learning developed by integrating a CIRC-based scientific approach, axpected to facilitate teacher learning in accordance with the objectives. The research is a quasi-experiment using one group pretest-posttest design. The research independent variable includes Cirsa learning model, whereas the dependent variable is concept understanding of authentic assessment. The research data are analyzed using descriptive statistics that encompasses teachers’ response on learning and analysis of average pretest and posttest. The research results indicate that there is an influence of Cirsa learning application on the concept mastery of authentic assessments of Biology teachers.
