Abstract

Qur’anic ecofeminism offers an ethical and spiritual response to the global ecological crisis by integrating ecofeminist insight with Qur’anic theology. This study explores how feminine-coded values such as raḥmah (compassion), riʿāyah (nurturing care), and taʿāwun (cooperation) function as foundational principles of Qur’anic ecological ethics. Using a thematic (mawḍūʿī) approach, the article analyzes key Qur’anic verses alongside contemporary ecofeminist scholarship to show how domination-based paradigms toward both women and nature are challenged within the Qur’an. The findings demonstrate that the Qur’an frames the human–nature relationship within a moral horizon of compassion, relationality, and responsibility, thereby providing a theological basis for environmental protection that transcends gender binaries. Qur’anic ecofeminism thus contributes to the development of a just, sustainable, and spiritually grounded ecological ethic rooted in divine mercy and human stewardship.

Abstract

Negative stigmas against women are found in ancient Javanese culture, including in the manuscript of Serat Sandi Wanita. This paper aims to uncover the histories of misogynistic hadith in the manuscript, assess their quality, and examine how the manuscript’s initiators and writers constructed the hadith or history. This paper is a qualitative study with historical and gender analyses, as well as a hadith-critical approach. Furthermore, it was found that there are two narrations in the manuscript that use the figures of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his family, namely Fatimah r.a. and Ali bin Abi Talib r.a as role models but contain misogynistic values of Hinduism. Theological syncretism between Islam and Hinduism, as a characteristic of Javanese Islam in the 19th century, has influenced the use of hadith histories in Serat Sandi Wanita. These narrations cannot be accepted as arguments because they do not meet the requirements for the validity of the hadith in both sanad and matan. This study emphasizes the importance of reviewing and criticizing hadith in local texts or studies that contain narrations attributed to the Prophet PBUH. This research also contributes to enriching the new direction of hadith and gender studies in Indonesia through an interdisciplinary approach to the authority of Islamic texts within local culture, thereby enabling a deeper identification of the root causes of the construction of hadith-based gender injustice.

Abstract

This study explores Muslim-friendly tourism as an implementation of Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah from the perspective of the Qur’an through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The research aims to identify how Islamic principles—particularly the five essential objectives of Sharia (ḥifẓ al-dīn, ḥifẓ al-nafs, ḥifẓ al-‘aql, ḥifẓ al-nasl, and ḥifẓ al-mal)—are integrated within the concept and practice of Muslim-friendly tourism. A systematic review of relevant journal articles published between 2020 and 2025 was conducted using thematic analysis to classify findings according to the Qur’anic and Maqāṣid frameworks. The results show that most studies on Muslim-friendly tourism emphasize economic and managerial aspects, such as market potential, halal certification, and destination branding, while limited attention is given to the Qur’anic and theological foundations. The analysis of Qur’anic verses, particularly those containing the command sīrū fī al-arḍ (“travel through the earth”), reveals that travel in Islam is not merely recreational but also spiritual, educational, and reflective—encouraging the appreciation of Allah’s creation and moral introspection. This study concludes that the concept of Muslim-friendly tourism can serve as a means of realizing the objectives of Sharia by preserving religion, life, intellect, lineage, and wealth, while fostering ethical, spiritual, and sustainable travel practices aligned with Islamic values.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of ṭumaʼnīnah in prayer based on the perspective of the Qur’an and its relevance to peace of mind and mental health. This study uses a qualitative approach based on literature research, namely collecting verses from the Qur’an related to ṭumaʼnīnah, zikr, and peace of mind, these verses are analyzed using the tahlili method, by examining various perspectives of classical and contemporary exegesis from linguistic, theological, and contextual points of view, then relating them to Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s psychological theory which developed the theory of flow. The results show that tuma’ninah in the Qur’an is closely related to the concept of peace of mind (nafs al-muṭma’innah), which is grounded in faith, zikir, gratitude, and belief in Allah’s help. Prayer performed with devotion and tuma’ninah not only improves the quality of worship but also acts as spiritual therapy that can reduce stress, anxiety, and mental disorders. This research is significant for the development of Islamic psychology, as it shows that the concept of ṭumaʼnīnah in the Qur’an, as practiced in prayer, is not merely ritualistic but also has psychological implications relevant to peace of mind and human mental health.

Abstract

This study examines the paradigm shift in tafsir research at State Islamic Universities (PTKIN) across Sulawesi, addressing a significant research gap in understanding regional patterns of epistemological transformation in Qur'anic studies. While previous studies have explored tafsir research trends at individual institutions, none have systematically mapped multi-institutional shifts using scientific paradigm theory. Employing Kuhn's paradigm shift theory as an analytical framework, this qualitative study analyzes 713 student theses from four institutions (UIN Alauddin Makassar, IAIN Kendari, UIN Datokarama Palu, and STAIN Majene) during 2018-2024, supplemented by in-depth interviews and field observations. The findings reveal a significant transformation from textual-normative approaches (tahlili, maudhu'i) to contextual-sociological methodologies (living Qur'an, hermeneutics, ma'na-cum-maghza), accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, supervisor orientations, and curriculum policies. This shift reflects an epistemological reorientation from understanding the Qur'an as static text to dynamic discourse continuously produced through context-text dialogue. The study contributes theoretically by applying Kuhn's framework to Islamic studies and practically by providing strategic recommendations for adaptive curriculum reform and locality-based research development in Qur'anic studies.
