Abstract

Interpretation of Surah Al-Araf verse 179, Surah Al-Ahzab verse 21, and Surah Al-Baqarah verse 26 related to the management of noble morals in the Quran, reveals that these verses contain implicit meanings about morals in the modern era that are increasingly declining. This study is a library research conducted by collecting data through readings, books, and relevant literature. The results of the study: show that the management of noble morals is in line with Surah Al-Araf verse 179 which states that Hell is provided for jinns and humans who do not use reason, sight, and hearing that Allah has given in the best possible way; in Surah Al-Ahzab verse 21, the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is described as a benchmark of life and an example for humanity with four characteristics: 1. Shidiq (truth), 2. Amanah (trustworthy), 3. Fathanah (wisdom), and 4. Tabligh (dissemination); Meanwhile, in the letter of Al-Baqarah verse 26, it is emphasized that obedience to Allah is the most important, because Allah will mislead those who do not want to believe and be pious, as an example of a mosquito that teaches that even small creatures obey Him. In contrast, humans gifted with reason, heart, and mind often do not want to believe and be pious, so they become wicked.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the meaning of justice in QS. An-Nisa: 3 through the paradigm of maqasidi interpretation (tafsir maqasidi) and its implications in Islamic law regarding the permission for polygamy. Tafsir maqasidi is a type of exegesis that examines the meanings of the words in the Noble Qur'an and their broader linguistic implications, along with the wisdom and objectives behind the revelation of the Qur'an and the legislation of Islamic laws. These objectives encompass universal values, namely maqasid al-shari'ah (the higher purposes of Islamic law) and maqasid al-Qur'an (the objectives of the Qur'an). This study employs a qualitative method with a tafsir maqasidi approach, involving textual analysis of the verse, historical context, and integration with the principles of maqasid al-shari'ah and empirical evidence related to the impacts of polygamy. The issues this paper seeks to address are: first, the absence of a definitive Islamic legal ruling on whether polygamy without the wife's permission is permissible or not. Second, the lack of alignment between Islamic legal rulings on polygamy permission and the provisions of Law No. 1 of 1974 of the Republic of Indonesia and the Compilation of Islamic Law, which stipulate that the wife's consent is mandatory. The findings indicate that the meaning of justice in QS. An-Nisa: 3, when understood through the lens of tafsir maqasidi, aims to protect women's well-being physically, mentally, and emotionally. Thus, polygamy without consent constitutes an act that contradicts the principle of justice and undermines maqasid al-shari'ah in safeguarding women's dignity and rights. Therefore, from the perspective of interpreting QS. An-Nisa: 3, obtaining permission for polygamy becomes an obligatory requirement.

Abstract

This article discusses maqasidi's interpretation of the ahkam verses used in the decision of the IV 2012 Ijtima' Ulama of the Indonesian MUI Fatwa Commission regarding the confiscation of assets of perpetrators of criminal acts of corruption, where the results of this ijtima were then discussed again in the decision of the Ijtima' Ulama of the Fatwa Commission Throughout Indonesia VIII,  Number 12/Ijtima' Ulama/VIII/2024 concerning review of the draft law regarding confiscation of assets related to criminal acts. This research mainly analyzes the verses used and their relevance to eradicating corruption. To analyze the verses used as the basis for the Fatwa Commission's Ulama Ijtima Decision, researchers used the maqasidi interpretation. The method used in this article is qualitative, in the form of a descriptive analysis of the results of the decision of the IV and VIII Ijtima' Ulama of the Indonesian Fatwa Commission regarding the confiscation of assets of perpetrators of criminal acts of corruption and the review of the draft law regarding the confiscation of assets related to criminal acts. In contrast, secondary data associated with this research is written. The results of this research show the relevance of the verses about eradicating criminal acts of corruption. As for the maqasidi interpretation approach, the use of verses in decisions can be seen from several aspects, namely: first, the text and law depend on the objective, and the MUI decision uses the appropriate verse for the theme to be decided. Second, the text and law depend on the purpose; the MUI uses fiqhiyah rules to strengthen the interpretation of verses and decision arguments. Third, genuinely bringing benefits and preventing damage (Jalbu al-Mashalih wa Dar'u al-Mafasid), MUI is very concerned about efforts to get benefits and to avoid damage. The recommendations in the decisions given prove this. Fourth, considering the legal impacts (I'tibar al-Maalat), the MUI also pays attention to the legal effects that will arise. Therefore, the MUI provides recommendations in the form of mitigation notes for the legal consequences that will occur.

Abstract

Digital media, initially designed to strengthen social relationships, often becomes a source of division due to disinformation, polarisation, and cyberbullying. Using a qualitative approach through literature review and content analysis, this research examines hadiths related to ta’awun and how this concept can be adapted to address modern social challenges. The study finds that cooperation and mutual assistance within the concept of ta’awun possess unique characteristics defined by five essential criteria: being goodness-based, inclusive, certain, beneficial, and involving God. As a principle of helping one another for good, the concept of ta’awun holds significant potential for maintaining social resilience in digital media. Ta’awun not only strengthens solidarity but also promotes digital literacy and inclusivity within the digital space. Thus, ta’awun plays a crucial role in fostering social cohesion and countering the negative impacts of digital media.

Abstract

Hysterectomy is a surgical procedure that has a significant impact on a woman's sexual identity, not only physically, but also psychologically and spiritually. The loss of the uterus is often interpreted as a partial loss of female identity, which then triggers a crisis of self-image, feelings of loss, anxiety, and even deep depression. This study aims to explore the transformation of women's sexual identity post-hysterectomy through in-depth analysis based on scientific literature and from the perspective of Qur'anic teachings. Problem solving is done through qualitative methods based on the study of relevant and current literature. The results show that accepting bodily changes as part of fate and divine will is a key factor in the healing and recovery. Ongoing spiritual support and social support from the immediate environment significantly influenced women's identity and emotional balance recovery. Therefore, a holistic and integrative approach that includes medical, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions is needed in post-hysterectomy assistance. This approach can help women rediscover the meaning of life and the integrity of their identity within the framework of Islamic values.

Abstract

This article aims to identify and explore the analytical methods of asy-Sya’rawi in understanding the textual variations of mutasyabih lafdzi verses and their implications for Qur’anic exegesis studies. This study employs a qualitative method using thematic interpretation (maudhu’i) and content analysis approaches. The thematic approach is applied to holistically examine the phenomenon of mutasyabih lafdzi through collecting and categorizing relevant Qur'anic verses. At the same time, content analysis is used to delve deeper into Asy-Sya’rawi's interpretive methods in explaining these textual variations. The findings reveal that Asy-Sya’rawi adopts a comprehensive approach, encompassing linguistic, historical, comparative analysis, and moral and ethical insights. For instance, his study of surat al-Baqarah/2:126 and surat Ibrahim/14:35 demonstrates how the textual differences between the terms baladan and al-balad reflect the transition of a region from a barren state to a secure and thriving city. Furthermore, asy-Sya’rawi connects these verses to moral lessons emphasizing the importance of physical, social, and spiritual security in the sacred region of Haram. This article also serves as a rebuttal to the claims of Orientalists like Richard Bell and William Muir, who perceive textual variations as indications of inconsistency in the Qur’an.

Abstract

The world has recently been hit by an environmental crisis caused by human exploitation of nature. This attitude of humans stems from their denial of the sacredness of nature, which is rooted in the loss of spiritual and moral values. In addressing the issue of the environmental crisis, the researcher is interested in examining Ibn ‘Ajibah’s interpretation of ecological verses and exploring them within the discourse of ecotheology, which has been widely developed recently. This research is purely a literature study, using a multidisciplinary approach that includes thematic interpretation, theological-sufistic, and ecological approaches. The results of this research are twofold: first, based on the issue underlying this research, Ibn ‘Ajibah’s interpretation of environmental verses is classified into two themes, namely the relationship between Allah and nature, and the relationship between nature and humans. Second, the concept of ecotheology in the Tafsir al-Baḥr al-Madīd includes two main concepts, namely: the concept of nature as a divine theophany; and the concept of humans as khalīfatullāh fī al-arḍ. In conclusion, in Ibn ‘Ajibah’s interpretation, nature is a manifestation of Allah, just like humans. Therefore, humans must repair the damage to nature, preserve it, and protect it from further damage. This is an application of their role as Allah’s delegates on Earth.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into digitally moderated Islamic da’wah to prevent consumerism among Generation AI from a Qur’anic perspective. Using a qualitative approach and literature review, it examines the potential of AI to expand the reach and effectiveness of Islamic messages through features such as interactive chatbots, content personalization, recommendation algorithms, big data analysis, and virtual assistants. The findings indicate that AI can support a more adaptive, moderate, and secure form of da'wah, while also serving as a tool for training preachers and preventing the spread of extremist content. Additionally, AI plays a crucial role in detecting and countering extremist narratives and enhancing the effectiveness of message delivery by da'wah practitioners. From a Qur’anic perspective, AI can align with the principles of moderation emphasized in the Qur'an. Wasatiyyah (moderation) is central in Surah Al-Baqarah [2:143]. The Qur'an also highlights the importance of avoiding excess and materialism, such as in Surah At-Takathur [102:1], which resonates with the study’s aim to use AI to address the excessiveness of religious consumerism in the digital age. With AI, digital da'wah can become more responsive and uphold the values of moderation, ensuring that Islamic teachings remain relevant, accessible, and grounded in balance and restraint. Theoretically, this study enriches the literature on AI integration in Islamic da'wah, while deepening the understanding of moderation (wasatiyyah) in modern technology. Practically, it offers strategic guidelines for developing relevant and transformative AI-based digital da'wah content that aligns with Islamic values.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to determine the role of Da’i personality traits in mapping the level of mental health of orphans based on the perspective of the Qur’an. This study used a qualitative approach involving thirty-four orphans aged 12–18, comprising 55% girls and 45% boys. Data were collected by exploring children’s experiences during the first three years since losing their father. The results showed that the first year is the most difficult time mentally for children, especially related to anxiety, stress, and communication disorders. This condition is influenced by physical, emotional, and social factors, and the absence of the father’s role. In this situation, a Da’i with an empathetic, communicative, and spiritual personality must provide guidance and a sense of security. As mentioned in QS, the Qur’an emphasizes the importance of caring for weak children. An-Nisa: 9. In the second year, the children’s mental condition has not shown significant improvement. Peers become the main emotional support, while a Da’i acts as a spiritual companion who helps children understand the meaning of loss and deal with the pressures of life, especially in the context of underprivileged families. QS. Al-Hujurat: 10 underlines the importance of social support in building solidarity and mental strength. Entering the third year, the child’s mental condition is greatly influenced by the experiences of the previous two years. Children who receive emotional support and spiritual guidance from a Da’i are more stable and mentally strong. This study confirms the importance of Da’i’s personality, such as patience, wisdom, and compassion, in accompanying orphans so that they continue to grow healthily, confidently, and do not lose hope, as in line with the principles of QS. Ar-Ra’d: 11.
