Abstract

The Merdeka Belajar Curriculum in Indonesia prioritizes literacy development, particularly in Indonesian language education, as a means of enhancing students' language proficiency, critical thinking, and sense of national identity. Writing, a key component of this curriculum, requires not only cognitive but also technological competencies. This study employed a descriptive qualitative research design to investigate the role of digital literacy in improving students' writing skills at the high school level. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. Findings indicate that digital literacy enhances writing skills by broadening access to information, increasing writing flexibility, and promoting critical thinking. Students showed increased engagement and collaboration when using digital tools. However, implementation challenges persist, including limited technological infrastructure, unequal access to devices, and varying levels of digital competency among educators and learners. Although digital literacy presents a promising avenue for strengthening writing instruction, these benefits can only be fully realized when infrastructural and skill-related barriers are addressed. Digital literacy has significant potential to improve writing skills in Indonesian language education. To ensure its successful integration, a collaborative approach involving schools, educators, and policymakers is essential. This collective effort should focus on creating equitable access to technology and fostering digital competence to support an inclusive and effective digital learning environment.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a mathematical assessment instrument for senior high school students based on higher order thinking skills (HOTS). This research is development research that aims to develop a valid, practical and effective HOTS assessment instrument. The development model used is the Tessmer’s model. There are five steps applied in this study, namely preliminary, self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one and small group and field testing.  The research findings explained that each item met the validity of content (content), construct, and language. Content validity is the compatibility between the questions and the indicators that have been set for each material. Fulfilling construct validity refers to the instrument measured by the HOTS concept. It met the validity of the language because the sentence structure in the question followed the correct Indonesian language rules and did not contain double meanings or ambiguity. Therefore, this item is appropriate to be used as an alternative teaching material for students to develop their higher-order thinking skills, especially in the material about flat-plane analytical geometry.

Abstract

Premarital education serves as a strategic tool to foster sustainable and equitable family life. However, in Indonesia, people with disabilities often face exclusion from such programs due to legal and pedagogical frameworks that lack inclusivity. This research addresses the gap between the normative commitment to non-discrimination and the practical implementation of premarital education. This study employs a qualitative, normative-juridical and socio-legal approach, using legal documents, policy analyses, and literature reviews. It integrates the principles of inclusive education, adult learning, and lifelong education to evaluate the current state of premarital education in Indonesia and its accessibility for persons with disabilities. Findings show that existing legal frameworks, such as Law No. 8/2016 on Persons with Disabilities and Law No. 1/1974 on Marriage, guarantee equal rights, yet premarital education guidelines remain largely non-adaptive. Key issues include the absence of inclusive curriculum design, a lack of trained facilitators, and minimal use of accessible media such as Braille, sign language, or audio materials. This study highlights the need for legal reconstruction to incorporate inclusive practices into premarital education policy. By aligning legal provisions with the principles of Universal Design for Learning and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, premarital education can evolve into a non-formal, lifelong learning platform that promotes equality and dignity for all citizens, including persons with disabilities.

Abstract

This study investigates an ecology-based education model incorporating local wisdom to support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). The research focuses on Al-Ashriyyah Nurul Iman Islamic Boarding School in Bogor, Indonesia, examining its approach to sustainability within an Islamic educational framework. A qualitative research approach was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis. Informants included school leaders, students, teachers, staff, the eco-pesantren team, and the surrounding community. Data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques and triangulation to ensure reliability. Findings indicate that Al-Ashriyyah Nurul Iman Ecopesantren integrates Islamic values, local wisdom, and sustainability principles through a holistic educational model. This includes an environment-based curriculum, inclusive community engagement, eco-friendly campus management, a sustainability culture, and circular economy practices. The pesantren applies local wisdom values such as silih asih (mutual care) and reciprocal nurturing, positioning students as key agents of sustainable transformation. Through circular economy initiatives, students actively contribute to sustainability by converting waste into productive resources. These efforts align with multiple SDGs, including SDG1 (No Poverty), SDG2 (Zero Hunger), SDG3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG4 (Quality Education), SDG5 (Gender Equality), SDG6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG13 (Climate Action), and SDG17 (Partnerships for the Goals). The integration of ecological education and local wisdom in Islamic boarding schools fosters sustainability and enhances student participation in achieving SDGs, demonstrating the potential of pesantren as models for sustainable education.

Abstract

Multicultural education has the potential to foster social harmony while supporting academic achievement in diverse school settings. Despite its relevance, little is known about its implementation and impact in Indonesian vocational high schools (SMK), where students come from varied cultural, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds. This qualitative study employed a case study design to examine how multicultural education is practiced in one state vocational school. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five informants (teachers, a student, and a vice principal), participant observation, and document analysis. A thematic analysis was applied, and it was supported by methodological and source triangulation to ensure validity. Findings reveal that multicultural education is enacted through curriculum content integration, culture-based extracurricular activities, and inclusive school policies. These strategies cultivate a classroom climate that values diversity, enhances student confidence, and motivates active learning. Moreover, structured cross-cultural interactions reduce prejudice and strengthen social relationships among students. Teachers observed higher participation, particularly from students of minority backgrounds, while administrators reported reduced intergroup conflicts and stronger collaboration across cultural lines. The study concludes that multicultural education plays a dual role in academic and social development. When implemented contextually in vocational schools, it can promote student engagement and foster social cohesion. However, given the study’s limited scope and reliance on qualitative perceptions, broader research with mixed-method approaches is recommended to better capture the impact on measurable academic outcomes.

Abstract

Tutor effectiveness is a critical factor in non-formal education, particularly in the Package C equivalency program. One of the major challenges in this context is low student motivation, which significantly affects academic achievement. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach to examine the influence of tutor performance and student learning motivation on academic achievement in the Package C program in Ambon City. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 90 tutors across four Community Learning Activity Centers (Pusat Kegiatan Belajar Masyarakat, PKBM) in the Sirimau sub-district.The analysis showed that both tutor performance (t = 5.009, p .05) and student learning motivation (t = 1.998, p .05) had a significant positive effect on student achievement. Additionally, tutor competence and work motivation were found to significantly influence overall tutor performance (F = 14.922, p .05).These findings highlight the dual importance of enhancing tutor effectiveness and fostering student motivation to improve educational outcomes in non-formal settings. Tutor performance is shaped by internal factors such as professional competence and motivation, which in turn impact students' academic success.Tutor performance and student learning motivation are key predictors of student achievement in the Package C program. Future interventions should prioritize capacity building for tutors and strategies to increase student engagement in non-formal education environments.

Abstract

Digital transformation has become a strategic priority for governments seeking to enhance efficiency, service quality, and citizen engagement. Despite growing interest, empirical and conceptual insights remain fragmented. This study aims to systematically synthesize existing research on digital transformation in the public sector and to identify key benefits, challenges, and implementation approaches. Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic literature review was conducted using reputable academic databases and official government sources. A total of 28 empirical and conceptual studies met the predefined inclusion criteria. The selected studies were analyzed using thematic analysis to extract recurring patterns, governance contexts, and strategic implications. The findings indicate that digital transformation in government yields significant benefits, including improved cost efficiency, enhanced public service delivery, and greater citizen participation. Cross-country evidence from cases such as Singapore, Australia, and South Korea demonstrates that governance structures, institutional capacity, and policy alignment critically influence the design and outcomes of digital initiatives. However, persistent challenges remain, notably data security and privacy risks, limited resources, and resistance to organizational change. Based on the synthesized evidence, this study proposes a Citizen-Centric Adaptive Model that emphasizes iterative development, data-driven decision-making, and participatory engagement. The study concludes that digital transformation represents a strategic opportunity for governments to improve effectiveness and public satisfaction, while offering practical guidance for policymakers seeking to modernize public sector operations.
