Abstract

Science process skills, critical thinking, and self-confidence are life skills that take an important role in everyone’s life, so they need to be developed at an early age. All of those competencies were not yet developed well in grade 1F students in the elementary school SD XYZ Tangerang. The aim of the research was to analyze the application of Discovery Learning model in order to improve grade 1F students’ ability in science process skills, critical thinking, and self-confidence. The research method was class action research. The research was applied to 29 students in the grade 1F elementary school SD XYZ Tangerang as the subject of the study. Students’ progress in their science process skill, critical thinking, and self-confidence was measured by a set of rubrics. The results showed a significant improvement in the students from the first, second, and third cycle. The average science process skill score in the first cycle was 54.60, in the second cycle was 79.60, and in the third cycle was 87.64. The average critical thinking score in the first cycle was 63.51, in the second cycle was 77.01, and in the third cycle was 85.63. The average self-confidence score in the first cycle was 59.77, in the second cycle was 76.72, and in the third cycle was 82.18. Based on the result, it was concluded that Discovery Learning model can improve the science process skill, dan self-confidence in the Science Lesson for grade I F students in the elementary school SD XYZ Tangerang.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a picture storybook to increase childrens’ understanding about earthquake and tsunami disaster mitigation. This type of research is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE development model which consists of five stages, namely, analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The data collection techniques used were observation, tests, questionnaires, and documentation. The data analysis technique used is the analysis of the level of validity of the product and the data analysis of the test results with paired sample t tests. The results showed that: (1) the earthquake and tsunami disaster mitigation picture storybook media has been developed using the ADDIE model, (2) the picture storybook media is declared "Very Valid" based on the average media expert assessment of 4.5, the average material expert assessment of 5, and the average linguist assessment of 4.36, (3) the development results show that children's responses to picture storybook media are very positive with an average small group response questionnaire of 4.71 (Very Valid) and an average large group response questionnaire of 4.38 (Very Valid); (4) the picture storybook media is declared effective in increasing children's understanding of earthquake and tsunami disaster mitigation with the results of the t test sig. (2-tailed) 0.004 < 0.05.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a two-level Natural Science (IPA) test instrument based on the jumanji game in measuring understanding of the concept of work and simple planes. The research method in this case is a quantitative method with a modification of the development model. The measurement instrument developed in this study is a two-level science test or a reasoned multiple choice test specifically for the business chapter and simple planes. This research instrument that has been developed was tested on 256 students of SMP Abu Bakar. The results of this study indicate that a measurement instrument has been produced in the form of a two-level science test based on the jumanji game which can measure students' understanding of concepts about business and simple and reliable machines that are valid and reliable. These results are evidenced by the validity and reliability of the two-level science test, which are 0.83 and 0.53 respectively. Meanwhile, the achievement of students' understanding of concepts related to business and simple machines is 51% which is in the high category. The students' conceptual understanding measured using the two-level science test is high because it exceeds the minimum criteria that have been determined.

Abstract

Textbooks have a strong influence on curriculum development, learning approaches, activities and even assessments of learning mathematics. The aim of the research is to describe the use of mathematics textbooks based on the Singapore curriculum in mathematics learning. This research is a qualitative research with a case study method. The participant is an elementary school teacher at a school in Tangerang. Data collection was carried out by observation using an observation guide. Data analysis was carried out descriptively using coding. Coding uses Nicol and Crespo's framework regarding the model of using textbooks in mathematics learning, namely adhering, elaboration, and creating and is seen based on the role played by the teacher in the learning process. The results of the study show that the level of teacher use of books is in the adhering category for each teacher's role in using textbooks.

Abstract

This research aims to a) improve thematic learning outcomes and students' cooperative attitudes in third grades at SD Negeri Gondangan by implementing discovery learning. b) describe the steps of discovery learning that can improve thematic learning outcomes and students' cooperative attitudes. This type of research was classroom action research. The model of classroom action research used Kemmis & Mc Taggart design with using 2 cycles, then each cycle consisting of 3 stages namely, 1) action planning, 2) action implementation and observation, 3) reflection. The subjects of this study were 14 third grade students of SD Negeri Gondangan. The results of the study show that improving learning outcomes and students' cooperative attitudes in thematic learning can be pursued through proven discovery learning. This can be seen in the comparison of the percentage of completeness of student learning outcomes cycle I and cycle II, namely 64.29%: 100%. Student learning outcomes based on the minimum score of cycle I and cycle II, namely 50: 80. Student learning outcomes based on the maximum score of cycle I and cycle II of 80:100. Student learning outcomes based on the average score of cycle I and cycle II are 68.57:87.14. In addition, the comparison of the percentage of completeness of the attitude scale assessment cycle I and cycle II is 57%: 100%. It can be concluded if the classroom action research was succesfull, this is indicated by the large percentage of students who achieve completeness with KKM = 70.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate whether the role play teaching model had an effect on students’ story telling skill in primary schools in Salatiga. This study was experimental research. A T-test on the pre-test data showed that the mean of the experimental group was 18.94, whereas the mean of the control group was 18.500. This data showed that there was 0.44 difference between the two groups. Further, the data showed that tcount < ttable (1.319 < 2.353). Hence, there was no significant difference between the two groups. Whereas, an analysis on the post-test data showed that the mean of the experimental group was 21.98 and the mean of the control group was 21.01. Thus, the post test result of the experimental group was higher than the control group. There was 0.96 difference between the groups. The T-test showed that tcount > ttable (3.264 > 2.353). Hence, there was a significant difference between the two groups. The post-test data analysis using t-test showed that the tcount was 3.264 and as the tcount > ttable (3.264 > 2.353), the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Thus, there was a significant difference between the story telling skill in the experimental group and the control group.

Abstract

The use of the ICT-based learning media has been an integrated element in the learning design to help students achieve the learning objectives. The purpose of the study was to describe the effect of using the ICT-based learning media towards the learning outcomes of students in the social studies subjects for grade 5 in Duri Kosambi 10 Pagi Elementary School. This research is an experiment with a nonequivalent control group design. The data collection techniques were tests, interviews, and observations. The pretest score from the experimental class was 30.89 and 27.67 from the control class. The post-test scores from the experimental class was 83.39 and the control class obtained 73.33. Then the t-test using IBM SPSS Statistic 24, showed a significance value of 0.01 < 0.05. The results of interviews and observations showed a positive influence on learning interest and interaction of the students in the classroom, as evidenced by increased learning outcomes in the experimental class.

Abstract

Indonesia is rich in culture. The diverse traditional local cultures provide materials to be explored and linked to mathematics learning. The ethnomathematics is a scientific approach that connects mathematics and culture. This study aims to provide an overview and rationalization of the importance of the role of ethnomathematics in multicultural education. As a result, it can be studied because culture is introduced not only through the social sciences but also through the exact sciences via mathematics. The research method in this study is qualitative, using the systematic mapping study method or systematic analysis study to describe the research mapping on ethnomathematics that has been studied. The following are the findings of the research: (1) Various traditional local cultural media, such as traditional houses, woven products, batik, and others, are the media that are widely studied using ethnographic and descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects were cultural experts or descendants of royal lineages. Very little research provides examples of the use of materials in the classroom and according to their measurement capacity. (2) The ethnomathematics plays a role in a multicultural education by exploring various cultures so that students can get to know the multiculturalism of Indonesian nation. The meaningfulness of the mathematics learning and culture is used to make the learning effective in multicultural classrooms.

Abstract

Curriculum changes that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic made the government reformulate the existing national education “Kurikulum 2013” to become “Merdeka Belajar” Curriculum (independent learning). The schools and teachers became the important institutions in the Independent Learning Curriculum that focused on the character of the Pancasila Students Profile. The teacher competencies need to be improved to achieve the learning objectives through the Sekolah dan Guru Penggerak (the activator schools and teachers). The role of the activator teachers was to  improve the teachers’ quality in implementing the Independent Learning Curriculum. The purpose of this study is to determine the efforts of the teachers in improving their competence through the predicate of the Activator Schools. The research was conducted referring to a descriptive qualitative approach. The research was carried out at one Activator School, which was the Elementary School 4 Koba in the Koba district. The purposive sampling technique was used. The primary data sources were obtained through observations and discussions with 7 female teachers in low and high grades. Meanwhile, the secondary data sources were obtained from the previous studies from international, Sinta 1, and Sinta 2 journal articles. The interview process was done in a semi-structured way by providing a form, then the data results were analyzed by reducing and concluding. The results of this study revealed that the activator school sought to develop learning activities that realizes the characters of Pancasila to the students. The components that needed improvements was the teachers’ ability to do innovation in the lesson plan that contains the characters of Pancasila. The concerns faced by the activator teachers was that the training activities were carried out online in a short time, that reduced the opportunity to train making indicators and the implementation. It is suggested the school look for information from relevant education agency sources.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop the electronic student worksheets (E-LKPD), based on the Science, Environment, Technology, and Society (SETS), in improving the learning activities of elementary school students. In this Research and Development (R&D) designed research, the data collection techniques used were the questionnaires, tests, and documentation. The data was analyzed with SETS elements, the e-worksheet validity test was measured by the experts validation, the learning practices were measured using the student and teacher observations lists, the effectiveness of the e-worksheet was tested using the independent sample t-test and the students' cognitive mastery test scores. The results showed that the SETS -based e-worksheet was valid, practical, and effective in increasing students’ learning activities. It can be concluded that: 1) the e-worksheet is valid as the average score from the expert validation resulted 93.5% in a ‘very good’ category and can be used without revision; 2) the e-worksheet is practical, proved by the observation result in the experimental class students that reached  88%, compared to the control class with 72 % score. The results of the students’ responses scored 81% in ‘good’ category and 93% in the experimental class in a ‘very good’ category; 3) the e-worksheet proved to be effective shown by the t-count which was higher than the t-table (2.619 > 1.995), that made the H0 was rejected, that suggested there was a difference in the result of cognitive learning in the experimental (91.4% ) and control class (80%).
