Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) learning model assisted by audiovisual media and to analyze the role of learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) in students’ news text speaking skills at Madrasah Aliyah. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design. The subjects of this study were 23 eleventh-grade students of class XI IPA 2 at MA NU Nurussalam Kudus. Data were collected through speaking performance tests and learning style questionnaires, which were subsequently analyzed using a paired t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The findings reveal that the implementation of the Numbered Heads Together model significantly improved students’ news text speaking skills, as indicated by an increase in the mean score from 58.04 in the pre-test to 79.69 in the post-test. The results of the paired t-test further confirm this improvement (t = −13.84, Sig. = 0.000). In addition, the ANOVA results show a significant difference in speaking achievement based on students’ learning styles (Sig. = 0.004; p < 0.05), suggesting that the effectiveness of the learning model is influenced by learners’ learning style profiles. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Numbered Heads Together model assisted by audiovisual media is effective in enhancing students’ news text speaking skills, and that speaking instruction should take learning styles into consideration.

Abstract

Education in Phase D, specifically at the Junior High School (SMP) level, is a crucial transitional phase in student Development. This phase remains dominated by a pedagogical approach, namely, a teacher-centered learning process. Although the pedagogical approach is essential as a conceptual foundation and a discipline, it is less effective at developing student independence and learning capabilities. Thus, an integration of pedagogical and andragogical approaches is necessary to instill the principles of autonomy and relevance in adolescence. This research employed a qualitative case study approach, involving class VIII A students at SMP Negeri 1 Ngoro as the research participants. Data collection techniques included direct observation during the learning process, in-depth interviews, and analysis of student learning outcomes. Students' learning abilities were measured using three indicators: learning independence, critical thinking skills, and adaptability. Research shows that combining these two approaches successfully creates a more adaptive and transformative learning environment. Pedagogical principles provide a foundation for the structure and understanding of essential concepts, while andragogical elements, such as problem-based projects, reflective discussions, and the choice of assignments, enhance students' enthusiasm for learning and give them a sense of ownership over their learning process. There was a marked improvement in students' critical thinking skills when analyzing real-life situations and their ability to manage learning tasks independently. This study concludes that combining andragogical and pedagogical approaches for junior high school students is an effective model for strengthening learning abilities and helping them address learning challenges at higher levels of education and in everyday life.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of women’s voices in Bukan Salahmu Menjadi Perempuan by Fajar Sulaiman by focusing on the relationship between the author’s social background and the construction of female experiences in the text. The research is motivated by the persistence of gender inequality and the emergence of literary works that articulate women’s emotional wounds, silence, and resilience. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, the study analyzes textual data through close reading and thematic categorization using Alan Swingewood’s sociology of the author as the main theoretical framework. The findings reveal that women’s voices are represented through themes of emotional suffering, social pressure, silencing, vulnerability, strength, and self-recovery. These representations are closely related to the author’s empathetic engagement with women’s lived experiences and his critical reflection on patriarchal social structures. The study concludes that the book functions not merely as a literary work but as a form of social testimony that reflects the dialectical relationship between the author and society, while simultaneously advocating gender awareness and empathy toward women’s experiences.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of message construction, speaking style, and interpersonal relationships formed in an episode of the Deddy Corbuzier Podcast featuring Prabowo Subianto. This qualitative research employs data collection methods including observation, documentation, and systematic note-taking. Data analysis involves processes of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Message construction is analyzed using Aristotle’s Rhetorical framework (Ethos, Pathos, Logos), speaking style is examined through a linguistic approach, and interpersonal relations are analyzed using DeVito’s five dimensions: openness, empathy, supportiveness, positivity, and equality. The findings indicate that the message construction is strategically designed to redefine the public image from rigid to more humanistic. Ethos is established through emotional control, Pathos through humor and personal narratives, and Logos is reinforced by references to real-life experiences. Prabowo’s speaking style demonstrates significant adaptation, shifting toward a more casual language style (using informal pronouns such as “lo-gue”) with a calm intonation. This adjustment functions as a strategic effort to reduce formality and bridge the distance between the speaker and the audience. Interpersonal relations successfully manage differences in social status by creating functional equality across DeVito’s five dimensions. In conclusion, the appearance of a political figure in this podcast provides an opportunity for direct interaction and public image renewal aligned with contemporary digital media trends, as well as for fostering more personal closeness with the public, making this communication process an effective post-election image adaptation strategy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the discourse of educational service advertisements by examining how language is used to construct meaning, ideology, and power relations in the educational context. The phenomenon of the increasing use of advertisements as a medium for shaping the image of educational institutions is the main background of this study. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis framework. The research data consists of verbal texts of educational service advertisements collected through documentation techniques. The sample was determined purposively based on the criteria of relevance, message clarity, and dominant persuasive elements. Data analysis was conducted by examining three dimensions of discourse: text, discursive practices, and social practices. The results show that educational service advertisements utilize linguistic strategies such as metaphors, persuasive slogans, and imperative sentence structures to represent education as the main path to success and social mobility. These findings indicate that educational advertisements are not neutral, but rather reproduce certain ideologies and construct symbolic power relations between educational institutions and society. This study contributes to the development of critical discourse analysis studies in the fields of language and education and encourages increased public critical awareness of educational discourse in the media. Further research is recommended to involve multimodal analysis and audience reception studies.

Abstract

Dalam proses komunikasi tindak tutur memegang peranan penting karena seseorang tidak hanya berkomunikasi, tetapi juga mencerminkan nilai dan identitas budaya penutur. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk dan fungsi tindak tutur direktif dalam komunikasi antarbudaya masyarakat Kota Palu yang terdiri dari suku Kaili, Bugis dan Jawa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif untuk memahami fenomena komunikasi antarbudaya yang kompleks dan beragam. Data berupa tuturan lisan yang dikumpulkan melalui teknik observasi, teknik simak bebas libat cakap, teknik rekam dan teknik catat di pasar Lasoani dan lingkungan Universitas Tadulako. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan enam bentuk tindak tutur direktif yang ditemukan yaitu permintaan, perintah, pertanyaan, larangan, pemberian izin, dan nasihat, dengan sebelas fungsi seperti mengharap, memohon, menyuruh, mengontruksi, menyilakan, bertanya, mencegah, melarang, mengizinkan, menyarankan, dan mendorong. Penggunaan tindak tutur direktif dipengaruhi oleh norma sosial dan kompetensi komunikasi antarbudaya yang meliputi aspek sosiolinguistik, gramatikal, strategis dan wacana. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi teoritis dalam pengembangan keterampilan komunikasi antarbudaya di lingkungan pendidikan.

Abstract

The development of social media has significantly transformed communication practices and language use, particularly through the emergence of slang language. The extensive use of slang on social media potentially influences users’ language literacy. This study aims to describe the forms of slang language used on Instagram, TikTok, and X and to analyze the challenges they pose to language literacy. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data consisting of posts, captions, comments, and tweets from public accounts collected over a period of one to two months. Data were gathered through non-participant observation and documentation, and analyzed through identification, classification, and interpretative analysis. The findings reveal that slang language on social media is predominantly manifested in the forms of word shortening, acronyms, wordplay, loanwords, and digital metaphors or idioms. The use of slang presents challenges to language literacy, particularly in terms of lexical accuracy, language structure, and contextual awareness. This study highlights that slang language should not be regarded merely as language degradation, but as a linguistic phenomenon that necessitates the reinforcement of language literacy adapted to the realities of digital communication.

Abstract

Satire language style in literary works can be used as a medium for conveying social criticism. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the satire used in the Webtoon "Trickster" and then apply these findings to learning problems. The goal is to facilitate students understanding, particularly of social criticism in anecdotal texts. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected using simak and catat techniques through documentation studies. The simak technique involved analyzing comic panels, including visuals, dialogue bubbles, and narrative elements. The catat technique served as a follow-up to the data collected through simak techniques. The data analysis process included data reduction, data presentation, conclusions, and data verification. The results of this study revealed the satire in the Webtoon "Trickster" and the social criticism it contains. These satire styles are grouped into four types: irony, cynicism, sarcasm, and satire. Although numerous studies have addressed the issue of figurative language, there are still few that specifically link it to social criticism and use webtoons as a medium for application.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Concept Sentence learning model on the descriptive text writing skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Adiwerna, in terms of learning styles. This study used a quantitative approach with an experimental method. The research sample consisted of seventh-grade students in E as the experimental group taught using the Concept Sentence model. Data were collected through descriptive text writing tests at the pre- and post-test stages, as well as a learning style questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using a dependent t-test and a one-way ANOVA test after meeting the prerequisite tests for normality and homogeneity. The results showed that there was an increase in students' descriptive text writing skills after implementing the Concept Sentence learning model, as evidenced by post-test scores that were significantly higher than pre-test scores. In addition, the ANOVA test results showed that there were no significant differences in descriptive text writing skills based on auditory, kinesthetic, and visual learning styles. Thus, it can be concluded that the Concept Sentence learning model is effective in improving students' descriptive text writing skills and can be applied evenly without being influenced by differences in learning styles. Abstract

Film merupakan bagian dari karya sastra yang mendapat perhatian di era modern ini karena menampilkan konflik yang sering terjadi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, salah satunya adalah konflik batin. Konflik batin adalah gejolak dalam hati dan pikiran seseorang yang dapat memengaruhi perilaku. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan bentuk-bentuk konflik batin tokoh utama dan (2) mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya konflik batin dalam film Kabut Berduri karya Edwin. Analisis konflik batin dilakukan dengan menggunakan teori psikoanalisis Sigmund Freud. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Sumber data berasal dari film Kabut Berduri yang akan dirilis pada tahun 2024, sedangkan data berupa dialog, tindakan, dan peristiwa yang menunjukkan konflik batin tokoh utama. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi dan perekaman berulang dengan menonton film secara saksama. Analisis data menggunakan model interaktif Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tokoh utama Sanja mengalami konflik batin yang tercermin dalam bentuk kecemasan, kecurigaan, keraguan, dan tekanan emosional. Berdasarkan perspektif psikoanalitik Sigmund Freud, konflik batin tercermin dalam struktur kepribadian id, ego, dan superego dengan temuan 4 data id, 3 data ego, dan 3 data superego. Faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan konflik batin meliputi (1) pengalaman masa lalu dan stigma sosial, (2) tekanan kekuasaan dan kesenjangan sosial.
