Abstract

Brocoli and pegagan is a plant that is easy to get and efficacious as antidemensia. The objective of this study was to formulate the plant into an effervescent tablet preparation and to determine the best formula with acid concentration variation. Dry extract of brocoli and pegagan is made by the method of escape then dried with vacuum dryer. The preparation is made by wet granulation method of 3 formula with weight of 4 gram per tablet. The granule test includes moisture content. Result of granule water content ˂5%. Granules are printed in special chambers and conditions and tested for quality. The result of uniform weight test of all formula meets the requirements of Pharmacopoeia Indonesia III; Hardness of tablets 12.06-12.52 kP; Friability of tablets 0.083-0.74%; Test of dissolution time of efervesen tablet ˂ 5 minutes. Preferred test results showed formula III with citric acid concentration: 1: 2 tartaric acid most preferred; Test result of asiatikosida content of pegagan extract is 0.08% and efervesen 0.005% tablet; Test results for vitamin C content of broccoli extract 13.859% and efevesen tablet 16.995%. The results of the physical quality test of effervescent tablets showed that the three formulas met the specified requirements. Stability test results for 8 weeks showed that the effervesen tablet of formula 3 met the requirements of physical quality during storage.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian uji aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak etanol klika faloak dengan metode DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak etanol kulit batang faloak terhadap radikal bebas DPPH berdasarkan nilai IC50. Klika faloak diekstraksi secara maserasi dengan menggunakan pelarut etanol dan  dibuat dalam 5 seri konsentrasi yaitu 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm, 80 ppm dan 100 ppm. Ekstrak diuji terhadap DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrihidrazyl) sebagai radikal bebas dan diukur pada panjang gelombang 516 nm dengan absorbansi 0,640 menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Kemampuan antioksidan diukur sebagai penurunan absorbansi larutan DPPH setelah penambahan ekstrak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ekstrak etanol klika faloak (S. quadrifida R.Br) mempunyai aktivitas antioksidan kuat dengan nilai IC50  4, 8101 ppm dan vitamin C sebagai kontrol positif mempunyai aktivitas antioksidan kuat dengan nilai IC50 3,4873 ppm. Berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol klika faloak (S. quadrifida R.Br) memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang lebih lemah dibandingkan dengan vitamin C sebagai kontrol positif.

Abstract

Essential ingredients comfounds in roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) petals is anthocyanin pigments which include flavonoid that acts as an antioxidant. The aim of this research is to determine content of total phenolic of red roselle flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) ethanol extract. Sample as many one kilograms extracted by maceration method using ethanol 96%. Resulty 127,03 grams extract. Total phenolic content determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometer at wavelenght 737 nm with gallic acid equivalent as standard reference with Folin-Ciocalteau reagent. The result show the rendamen of ethanolic extract is 12.703% with total phenolic content is 0.1853%.

Abstract

One of the herb plants, purple Roselle flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa L), used to traditionally for various diseases. The aim of this research is to determine the total phenolic content of ethanol extract of purple Roselle flowers. Sample as many one kilograms extracted by maceration method using ethanol 96%. Resulty 120 grams thick extract. Total phenolic content determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometer at wave leght 743 nm with gallic acid as standard reference with Folin-Ciocalteau reagent. The result show the rendamen of ethanolic extract 12% with total phenolic content 1.6726 %.

Abstract

The isolation of n-hexane extract from Sweet Flag rhizome (Acorus calamus L.) was done. The aim of this research is to obtain β-asarone isolate as marker compound of   Sweet Flag (Acorus calamus L.). Sample from 1 kg of dried rizhome, mascerate using n-hexane. This process produce 31 ml thick extract. Isolation of n-hexane extract using column chromatography with isocratic methode using n-hexane etil acetat 8 : 2.  The isolate identified by UV-Vis spectroscopy,  IR spectroscopy,  (1H) NMR and Gas Chromatography Mass Spectro. From the data result show that isolate is β-asarone.

Abstract

The research had been conducted about the analysis of antioxidant activity of yodium (Jatropha multifida L.) leaves using cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity to determine the existance of antioxidant activity and to measure the antioxidant capacity in yodium (Jatropha multifida L.) leaves ethanolic extract using CUPRAC method. It was experimental research using CUPRAC method to prove the existance of antioxidant activity of yodium (Jatropha multifida L.) leaves. It was started by extracting the leaves using maseration using ethanol 96% solvent. The resulted extracts were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively by adding CuCl2 solution, neucuproin, NH4Ac buffer system which were measured in UV-Visible spectrophotometer and analyzed at a wavelength of 450 nm. Based on data analysis, it was found that the askorbat acid equivalent (AAE) presentage of yodium (Jatropha multifida L.) leaves was 0.7385 ± 0.0521 mg L-1 AA g-1 extract.

Abstract

Phenolic is a compound that having an aromatic ring with one or more hydroxyl groups. Phenolic compounds in foods can be grouped into simple phenols and folic acid. This study aimed to determine the total phenolic content of the leaf extract of nutmeg (Myristica fragrans Houtt). Leaves of nutmeg extracted using 70% ethanol, then the extract conducting qualitative analysis by reaction with FeCl3 as specific reagent. The result of this reaction is green solution, it means there are phenolic compound in the extract. The quantitative process of total phenolic was analyzed by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. A comparison used in this analysis is gallic acid; it is a standard reference in the determination of total phenolic content. Sample measured at a wavelength of 860.7 nm, which is the maximum wavelength of gallic acid. Total average content of phenolic is 183.56-mgGAE/g extract. The ethanol extract of nutmeg’s leaves have high total phenolic content, which means it is potential as antioxidant.

Abstract

Antioxidant activity assay has been conducted in order to determine the comparison of the antioxidant activity contained in the ethanol extract of the soursop leaves (Annona muricata L.) from Makassar, north Mamuju and Jeneponto. The amount of antioxidant activity obtained by testing against free radical DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-picryl Hydrazyl) at concentrations of 10, 20, 30, 40 dan 50 ppm with 96% ethanol. The testing was done with the addition of 1 mL of the test solution with 4 mL DPPH 35 ppm. The absorbance of free radical activity was measured by UV-Vis spectrophotometer at the wavelength 515 nm and the IC50 value was calculated based on the absorbance data. The calculations showed that the soursop leaves from Makassar, North Mamuju, and Jeneponto had the IC50 value of 1.380 µg/mL, 1.512, and 1.420 respectively. The results showed that the samples came from Makassar had a higher antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Kecombrang (Etlingera elatior Jack.) is one of the plants growing in the area of Palopo, South Sulawesi. Kecombrang included in the Zingiberaceae family and rhizome of kecombrang widely used by the community as an antioxidant. This research aimed to determine the phenolic content on the methanol extract of the rhizome kecombrang. Methanol extract of rhizhome kecombrang obtained by maceration method with methanol P. Chemical component analysis used thin layer chromatography (TLC) is characterized by the appearance of spot. Determination of the phenolic content of the methanol extract of rhizomes kecombrang used the TLC-densitometry. The results showed that the phytochemical assay on methanol extract of kecombrang rhizomes positively countains 144.43 µg phenolic compounds.

Abstract

Exposure to cigarette smoke is one of the exogenous free radicals. Exposure to cigarette smoke is associated with lung inflammation, oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation. Compounds that can inhibit the oxidation reaction by binding free radicals known as antioxidants. Eleutherine americana Merr. leaves has an antioxidant activity in invitro study. The aim of this work was to study E.americana leaves as a natural antioxidant that reduce the level of lung damage from exposure to cigarette smoke in male wistar rats and study effective dose of E.americana leaves to reduce the level of lung damage.  The leaves of E.americana extracted by maceration method for 6 days using ethanol 70%. Rats were divided into six groups of four animals each : exposed to ambient air (GroupA), exposed to cigarette smoke (Group B), exposed to cigarette smoke and treated with ethanol extract of E.americana leaves at dose 45mg/kg bw, 90mg/kg bw, 180mg/kg bw (Group C,D,E), exposed to cigarette smoke and treated with vitamin E dose 18mg/kg bb(Group F). All rats were treated for 14 days using 3 cigarettes non filtered each day by using a smoking chamber. After 14 days rats were killed. Right lungs were removed for histopathology. The results showed that dose 45mg/kg bw, 90mg/kg bw, 180mg/kg bw can reduce the level of lung damage to the enlarge of alveolar, thickening of the alveolar wall and inflammatory cell infiltration. Dose 180mg/kg bw as an effective dose to reduce the level of lung damage that compare to normal control.
