Block printing is a technique of carving motifs on a printing plate coated with dye and pressed repeatedly along the fabric to create patterns. One potential natural dye that can be applied is the Soga tingi (Ceriops tagal). In today’s textiles and fashion industries, the use of natural materials is increasing in line with the growing awareness of a sustainability lifestyle. This study aims to develop Soga tingi dye into the optimal paste formula for block printing techniques with fixation, plate material, and suitable fabrics. This research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data from literature reviews, field observations, interviews, and laboratory experiments. The results reveal the successful formulation of a Soga tingi natural dye paste with an optimal composition. The most effective thickening agent was found to be sodium alginate, a food-grade thickener used in a ratio of 10 g to 100 ml of liquid natural dye, resulting in a viscosity of 21,135 mPas. Thus, the block-printed cotton fabric made with the Soga tingi natural dye paste can be used for fashion products.

Maapam is a tradition of cooking apam carried out by the people of West Pasaman during certain religious moments, such as the month of Rajab coinciding with the Isra Mi'raj event, and the period leading to Ramadan. The tradition contains local wisdom values that are inherited across generations. This research aims to examine the cultural significance and educational value of the Maapam tradition using a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. The results of the study show that Maapam functions as a cultural practice that combines social and spiritual dimensions. Horizontally, this tradition strengthens togetherness, mutual cooperation, solidarity, and intergenerational communication. Vertically, Maapam reflects on the strengthening of religious values through its relationship with religious momentum that is full of the meaning of worship and self-reflection. The values of piety, responsibility, and social concern contained in the Maapam traditions are relevant to the goals of national character education. Therefore, the Maapam tradition can be positioned as a contextual learning resource based on local wisdom that supports the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) and the preservation of community cultural identity.

Slawatan, a hybrid culture rooted in Arab culture, developed in Java by adapting to the local culture. This study presents a case study Javanese slawatan tradition in the Langen Ambiya Group, Sleman Regency. Its existence is closely related to oral traditions and religious rituals expressed as distinctive Javanese performances and related to local knowledge. This study uses a structural method to examine the correlation between variations in form and meaning in slawatan lyrics. The results show that structurally, Javanese slawatan songs are developed through variations in the use of Arabic, Javanese, and a mixture of both languages. The performances also show similarities with Javanese palantun langgam, which reinforces the local aesthetic character of this tradition. These findings confirm that Javanese slawatan not only functions as a medium for religious preaching and entertainment, but also as a means of negotiating a dynamic cultural identity amid social change in society.

Wayang is a visual representation of living beings used in performing arts to convey narratives, including the tale of Dewa Ruci. This study aims to comprehend the character of Dewa Ruci through the aesthetic meaning of its wayang kulit form, the visual influence of the manuscript, and its contribution to the visual conservation of artifacts related to wayang aesthetics. This research employs a qualitative methodology with an interdisciplinary approach. The theoretical framework consists of wayang aesthetic theory, encompassing wanda (character typology based on facial and bodily patterns) and puppet form classification, alongside RWD's visual language theory to support visual analysis. The analytical process applies Feldman's art criticism method to guide the examination of the sample. The Museum Wayang Jakarta houses a Yogyakarta-style Dewa Ruci wayang kulit characterized by a fuller bodily physique. The essential formal elements of the puppet reside in its wanda, the distinctive visible patterns of facial and bodily design. The wanda embodies a refined and religious character through a bowed head position and the use of black as a symbol of emotional restraint. The visual design of the Dewa Ruci puppet in this analysis is structured to communicate comprehensive information within a single view, reflecting a gentle character.

Slametan and spirituality through art serve as a means of communicating with God and the universe amid an unbalanced natural environment. This study discusses aesthetic expression and spirituality through a theocentric perspective in the Sedekah Gunung activity at Padepokan Tjipta Boedaja Tutup Ngisor, Magelang. This study uses qualitative methods with a fieldwork approach, including interviews, field observations, transcription, data processing, and systematic data compilation. The results show that the aesthetic and spiritual expressions of Sedekah Gunung are embedded in a theocentric perspective in the meditasi gerak solah bawa and the kidung tradisi Sedekah Gunung. Theoretically, this research contributes to the development of a research model for aesthetic and spiritual expression in music and dance, grounded in theocentrism as a perspective. In practice, this research contributes to the discovery and explanation of aesthetic meaning through the kidung tradisi sedekah gunung and meditasi gerak (solah bawa).

This study examines the symbolism of Rangda in Balinese culture, focusing on the representation of female power reflected in texts and visual cultural expressions. Rangda, often depicted as an evil figure in Calonarang performances, reflects the duality of transformative feminine power, encompassing both destructive and protective aspects. As a manifestation of the Goddess Durga, Rangda represents feminine energy maintaining the balance of the universe, creating harmony between good and evil through the concept of Rwa Bhineda. This study employs a qualitative, descriptive-analytical approach to explore the symbolic meaning of Rangda across mythological and contemporary contexts. The results show that Rangda is not merely a symbol of evil power but a sacred entity that plays a vital role in maintaining Bali’s cosmic order. The representation of Rangda in visual art and religious rituals enriches the understanding of the role of femininity in maintaining the social and spiritual balance of Balinese society.

In Indonesian films, representations of Chinese identity that integrate Chinese cultural elements and Islamic values remain relatively underexplored, making them significant to examine in a cross-cultural context. This study analyzes how Chinese identity is represented in the films Assalamualaikum Beijing and Kukejar Cinta ke Negeri Cina, and how these cultural elements are connected to Islamic values. The research employs visual semiotic analysis, which explores the signs, symbols, visual elements, identity representations, and narratives of multiculturalism that appear in both films. The results show that Chinese identity is positioned as a bridge of cultural harmony through depictions of tolerance, historical proximity, and the process of religious assimilation between China and Indonesia. The novelty of this study lies in revealing the integration of Chinese culture and Islamic values, which is rarely addressed in Indonesian films, particularly through visual representations that emphasize diversity and the historical and cultural connections between China and Indonesia.

This study examines the script Jejak Kasih Ibu as an intertextual work derived from the legend of Si Mardan originating from Tanjung Balai, integrated with the phenomenon of overparenting. The focus of this research is to trace the relationships between texts and to analyze how the cultural values embedded in the legend are reinterpreted in accordance with contemporary societal needs. The aim of the study is to understand the interconnection between the script Jejak Kasih Ibu and the legend of Si Mardan as a hypotext, thereby revealing the cultural values and moral messages that have been transformed into a modern theatrical script. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with Julia Kristeva’s theory of intertextuality as its main analytical framework, emphasizing the dialogic relationships among texts and the shifts in meaning that occur within them. The findings indicate that Jejak Kasih Ibu is not merely a reinterpretation of a traditional legend into a theatrical form, but also serves as a medium for reinforcing the cultural values of the Tanjung Balai community through narratives that are both contextual and relevant to contemporary issues. This study underscores the significant role of literature as a medium of cultural interaction and exchange, as well as a means of preserving local wisdom through an intertextual approach.
