Abstract

Healthy and Clean Behavior (HCB) is an endeavor to promote individual’s consciousness to improve their health. HCB components include proper hand washing, adequate fruits and vegetables intake, adequate physical activity, and clean environment maintenance. Teachers have their own portion in HCB. They can directly transfer their knowledge about HCB to their students or they can become role models to the students in their action. This study aimed to assess whether teachers’ knowledge is sufficient and how it impacts their students’ behavior. This observational study used a cross-sectional design. A total of 38 students and 3 teachers from Klamono 60 Inpres Elementary School, Sorong Regency were involved in this study. Questionnaires on HCB knowledge and HCB practice were used to evaluate both the teachers and students. All teachers (n= 3) had a good HCB knowledge while 74% of students had poor attitude towards Healthy and Clean Behavior. The knowledge of Healthy and Clean Behavior of all teachers were good while HCB practices among students were mostly poor.

Abstract

The Cokro River is a tributary of the Amprong River whose river flows through several villages in Pakis District, Malang Regency, including Sumberpasir village and Pakiskembar village. Cokro River is located between residential areas and agricultural land and several industries. Industries in the Cokro river area are the leather industry, paper industry, and tofu factories. Anthropogenic activities result in river water pollution. The purpose of this study was to analyze the water quality and quality status of the Cokro River and to formulate a strategy to control water pollution in the Cokro River. This type of research is a mix method of qualitative and quantitative. Sampling was done by purposive sampling method, for pollution control strategies using the AHP method. The results of the water quality analysis show that the BOD and COD parameters exceed the class II and III quality standards at all points, the DO parameters are below the quality standard at points 3 and 5. The quality status at all points is lightly polluted on the quality criteria for class 2, while for class III quality criteria there is one point that is in good condition, that is point 4. AHP results show that the main priority is the social – institution aspect with the highest alternative solution value is to increase the role of the community in controlling river water pollution.

Abstract

Waste segregation is an activity in handling waste by classifying waste according to the type originating from the source. Implementation of waste sorting activities later so that every school member does not dispose of garbage in the same container. However, there are still many students who have not disposed of trash according to their type, even though the school has provided organic, non-organic, hazardous and toxic (B3) waste bins in every corner of the school yard. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes with waste sorting behavior at SMPN 18 Bekasi Timur District. This study used a cross sectional approach. The population and sample of this study were all students of class VII at SMPN 18 Bekasi Timur District with 420 students, the sample in this study were 120 students. The data source used is primary data with data collection methods in the form of interviews with a questionnaire instrument. The results of this study found that the knowledge of students at SMPN 18 Bekasi Timur District was in the low category of 53.3%, had a negative attitude of 55.8%, had good behavior in sorting waste 68.3% and the availability of facilities was inadequate for 71.7%. Bivariate analysis showed that there was no relationship between knowledge and waste sorting behavior (Pvalue 0.536), there was a relationship between attitude and waste sorting behavior (Pvalue 0.006) and there was no relationship between the availability of facilities and waste sorting behavior (Pvalue 0.075%). It is recommended that schools provide education about environmental health, especially the waste management program.

Abstract

Extract of Snake Plant (Sansevieria sp.) As a Reducer of Indoor Air Pollution, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) -Benzene. The quality of the indoor environment has become a health concern, as city dwellers spend 80-90% of their time indoors, where outdoor air pollution is several times higher. Indoor potted plants can remove airborne contaminants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), more than 300 of which have been identified in indoor air. and a very wide range of light, and is resistant to pollutants. This plant is also able to absorb more than 107 harmful pollutants in the air, this is due to Sansevieria sp. contains the active ingredient Pregnane glycosides. These active ingredients function to reduce pollutants into organic acids, sugars and amino acids so that these pollutants are no longer harmful to humans3. This study aims to see the extract of the tongue-in-law in reducing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in the room. The method used in this research is true experimental design with pre and post-test design without control design. Based on the results of the study, the decrease in benzene levels was done by using the sansevieria extract concentration with the average reduction proportions, namely: 10 ppm concentration; 98.24%, 20 ppm; 98.47%; 30 ppm; 98.73%. The results of statistical tests using the Mann Whitney U test showed that the results were 0.000 <0.05 so that there was a relationship, namely that there was a difference in the concentration of the extract of Sansevieria sp. against decreased levels of benzene. The most effective level of Sansevieria extract in reducing benzene levels in the air was 30 ppm with an average reduction proportion of 98.73%.

Abstract

Stunting is not only caused by chronic nutrition, but also infectious diseases related to environmental sanitation. The state of sanitation greatly affects the health of the occupants of the house, including the nutritional status of children. Stunting toddlers will have a lower level of intelligence and get sick more easily. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between household environmental sanitation with the incidence of stunting in toddlers. This research is analytic,the number of samples was 42 respondents consisting of 21 stunting toddlers and 21 normal toddlers. Statistical analysis using the Gamma correlation test, with the results showing the relationship between the variables of clean water facilities of 0.011 < α (0.05) and the relationship of family latrine variables of 0.002 < α (0.05) it can be stated that there is a relationship between clean water facilities and family latrines with stunting in toddlers. For the community, it is hoped that improvements to clean water facilities such as providing waterproof walls with a depth of 3 meters from the ground surface and family latrine facilities by closing the latrine floor that is not tight.

Abstract

Nowadays, the cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever are progressively increasing and necessitating control. One of the easiest controls in breaking the life cycle of Aedes spp. mosquitoes is to kill mosquito larvae using plants as natural larvacides are environmentally friendly. One of them is using purut lime leaves and basil leaves. The study aims to determine the effectiveness comparison of solution purut lime leaves and basil leaves toward Aedes spp. larvae mortality. This research method is a true experiment with a Post-Test Only Control Group design. It is also followed by concentration at control (0%), 1,5%, 2,5%, 3,5%, 4,5%, and 5,5% with 4 repetitions. The sample was 1.200 instar Aedes spp. III larvae. The results showed the effectiveness of the kaffir lime leaf solution was at the lowest concentration of 3.5% with the mortality of 18 Aedes spp. larvae and the effective concentration of basil leaves was 4.5% with 15 larvae mortality. From an economic and availability perspective, basil leaves are easier to find, making it easier to apply. This makes it easier to apply. Water reservoirs are difficult to clean outside the home.

Abstract

The amount of Fe in groundwater is usually quite high and causes the water to turn yellow-brown in color. According to preliminary test results, Fe levels were 4.62 mg/L and pH was 4.3 in one of the drilled wells in Banjarbaru, which did not fulfill quality criteria. Using zeolit and cassava peel to enhance Fe levels can be taken as an option. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the combination of zeolite and cassava peel in improving Fe and pH levels in a drilled water well. An experiment with a post-test only control group design was used for this study. The research population was the entire water supply from one of Banjarbaru’s drilled wells. The research sample was drilled well water, which was taken in part for testing. The Kruskal-Wallis test was employed to analyze differences in Fe levels, followed by the Mann Whitney test with a p-value < 0.05, indicating that there is a significant difference in Fe levels after treatment with combinations A, B, and C. According to the study’s findings, combinations C were the most effective in increasing the Fe levels and pH of drilled well water by up to 0.91 mg/L (78.32%) and 7.2.

Abstract

The prevalence rate of diarrhea in Kotabaru Regency is 8.57%, which is the second highest number of cases after Hulu Sungai Utara. Data on diarrhea cases from the Kotabaru District Health Office stated that the Puskesmas with the highest number was the Sebatung Health Center. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the knowledge and behavior of the community about basic sanitation and the incidence of diarrhea in the working area of ​​the Sebatung Health Center, Kotabaru Regency. The study analysis design used a case-control study method with a 1:2 case-control comparison. Data analysis using the chi-square test. The results showed that the level of community knowledge was 70% in the good category and 30% in the poor category, and the behavior of the community was 70% in the good category and 30% in the bad category. The results of statistical tests showed that knowledge (p value 0.000 < 0.05) was associated with the incidence of diarrhea, and behavior (p value 0.000 < 0.05) was associated with the incidence of diarrhea. It is hoped that it will increase knowledge and behavior about basic sanitation.

Abstract

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome includes disorders of the muscles, nerves, tendons, and blood vessels caused by repetitive activities for a long time. One of the informal sectors that always works using hands and wrists is the purun craftsman in Palam, Cempaka, Banjarbaru City. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between length of service and tenure with complaints of CTS on Purun craftsmen. One of the sampling techniques used is purposive sampling using inclusion and exclusion criteria. The number of samples collected is 53 respondents. Data analysis using the chi-square test. The results of the research test on the variable length of work, the Pearson chi-square sig value of 0.002 (<0.05) indicates a relationship between length of work and complaints of carpal tunnel syndrome in craftsmen. Although the results of the time-of-use survey test vary, the results of the research test on the variable period of service, the value of sig pearson's chi-square sig 0.002 (etlt; 0.05), which means that there is a relationship between years of service and complaints of carpal tunnel syndrome of purun craftsmen in Palam, Cempaka, Banjarbaru City.

Abstract

Clean water treatment for the needs of the people of Bengkulu is carried out by several agencies, one of which is managed by The City-Owned Water Company PDAM of Cahaya Negeri Village which is a business entity owned by the local government. This type of study was a qualitative research using interview guidelines and conducting observations. There were 3 informants in this study, namely, the head of the processing unit, the head of the laboratory and the processing operator. The research was conducted in Janaury 2021. The results of the study indicate that PDAM Cahaya Negeri was running well, the processing units were also complete, from maintenance of intake, type of intake pump, coagulation equipment and coagulant material, flocculation building is still very good, sedimentation process is also good, filtration material with silica sand is also appropriate, because the absorption of silica sand is good, and the last is disinfection, using chlorinated material is good for killing bacteria in treated water. The processed water has also met the standard of the Minister of Health Regulation No. 32 of 2017, concerning clean water standards. However, rainfall greatly affects the condition of raw water quality for processing and moreover the local power plant which often shuts down is an obstacle for PDAM CahayaNegeri to carry out processing. It is expected that the PDAM of CahayaNegeri can maintain its achievements and find solutions to its obstacles, in order to meet the need for clean water.
