Abstract

ABSTRACT The significant decrease in corn production in North Sulawesi Province from 2020 (174 thousand tons) to 2023 (88 thousand tons) indicates critical factors that need to be managed, one of which is the microclimate condition, encompassing air temperature and humidity. Fluctuations in temperature and humidity directly affect transpiration rates, photosynthesis, nutrient uptake, and the risk of pest and disease attacks on corn plants. Therefore, this research aims to develop and implement an IoT-based microclimate measurement instrument as an effort to achieve optimal corn production yields. The research methodology includes the design of a hardware integrated with temperature and humidity sensors and the microcontroller, as well as the design of software for data transmission to a cloud server via internet connection. The collected data is then presented in real-time through sheet. The instrument validation test was conducted by comparing the measurement instrument data against the data from BMKG using the Pearson correlation test (r).Results showed a very strong correlation coefficient: air temperature (r=0.857); air humidity (r=1); and soil moisture (r=0.864). This high correlation value proves that the developed instrument is compliant with the standard. Results show that the IoT-based temperature and humidity measurement instrument was successfully developed. Keywords: Corn, IoT, measurement, air temperature, humidity, Tomohon

Abstract

ABSTRACT Upland water spinach (Ipomoea reptans, Poir) is a widely consumed leafy vegetable due to its good nutritional content, rapid growth, and ease of cultivation; however, its productivity often varies depending on the characteristics of the varieties used. This study aimed to determine the growth characteristics of five upland water spinach varieties, namely Bisi, Bangkok LP-1, Rajawali, Serimpi, and Bika. The research was conducted in Kalasey Satu Village, Mandolang District, Minahasa Regency from June to July 2025 using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with five treatments and three replications, totaling 15 experimental units. Observations were carried out at 25, 30, and 35 days after planting (DAP) on plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, stem diameter, and fresh weight. The results showed no significant differences among varieties at 25 and 30 DAP, while significant differences occurred at 35 DAP. The Bika variety exhibited the best growth performance with an average plant height of 49.56 cm, 57.11 leaves, 8.78 branches, 8.52 mm stem diameter, and 48.33 g fresh weight, followed by Serimpi which also showed relatively high vegetative growth. The Bisi variety had a larger stem diameter but lower leaf and branch numbers, while Bangkok LP-1 and Rajawali displayed lower overall growth and yield. Based on these results, the Bika variety is recommended for cultivation due to its superior growth characteristics, and further studies are suggested to evaluate nutritional quality and determine optimal harvest timing to ensure both high yield and desirable consumption quality. Abstract

ABSTRACT Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) Green and red lettuce plants generally have similar leaf characteristics and textures, namely serrated or curly edges. The most common type of lettuce consumed by the public is the leaf lettuce type (green and red). The low production of lettuce plants is partly caused by decreasing soil fertility due to the lack of innovation in cultivation, especially the use of liquid organic fertilizers. This study aims to determine the effect of providing liquid organic fertilizers of gamal leaves (Gliricidia sepium (Jacq.) Steud.) on the growth of lettuce plants (Lactuca sativa L.). This study used a completely randomized design. The parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, and fresh weight of plants. The treatments given included P0: (Control), P1: 30 ml of gamal leaf POC/liter of water, P2: 60 ml of gamal leaf POC/liter of water, P3: 90 ml of gamal leaf POC/liter of water, P4: 130 ml of gamal leaf POC/liter of water. The study took place from July – November 2025. The application of gamal leaf POC significantly affected plant height, number of leaves, and fresh weight on lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) growth. The best concentration was treatment P4 (130 ml gamal leaf POC/liter of water) which produced a plant height of 30.78 cm at 42 HST, 14.8 leaves at 42 HST, and the highest fresh weight of 92.8 grams. Abstract

ABSTRACT Determining and Analyzing the Quality of Ranolangsot Dam Water as a Source of Irrigation Water for Rice Fields based on Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021, as well as to Determine the suitability of dam water quality based on the Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR) value. The study was conducted in July 2025 using descriptive methods and laboratory analysis with purposive sampling techniques at three sampling points. The parameters tested included temperature, pH, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Nitrate, Phosphate, Sodium, Calcium, and Magnesium. The SAR value was calculated using the Ayers & Westcott (1985) formula to determine water quality classification. The analysis results showed that the physical and chemical parameters of temperature 30°C, pH 6.5, TSS 6–10 mg/l, nitrate 0.8–2 mg/l, phosphate 0.02–0.3 mg/l still met the class III–IV quality standards. However, the SAR values at three consecutive points were 34.31, 13.25, and 30.83 mEq/l, indicating water quality ranging from (poor) to (good). The high sodium dominance at several points indicates the potential for soil structure degradation and reduced land fertility if used for irrigation. In conclusion, although most of the Ranolangsot Dam water parameters meet quality standards, the high SAR values at two points indicate that the water is not yet fully suitable for rice field irrigation without further management. Abstract

This study aimed to inventory land cover in the upper Kora-Kora watershed in Tulap Village, Kombi District, using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) drone technology. Field data acquisition was conducted using a DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone flown at an altitude of 250 meters, yielding aerial imagery with a very high spatial resolution of 6 cm/pixel. The imagery data was processed using Agisoft Metashape photogrammetry software and analyzed through visual interpretation and manual digitization using ArcGIS 10.8 software. The inventory identified seven land cover classes: plantations covering 27.59 hectares (88.71%), shrubland (1.21 ha), open land (1.10 ha), buildings/settlements (1.04 ha), roads (1,727 m), footpaths (1,178 m), and a river (930 m). The dominance of plantation cover aligns with the primary characteristics of an agrarian village community. The use of drones proved highly efficient, rapid, and accurate in providing up-to-date geospatial data. The resulting map serves as a valuable resource for the village government in spatial planning, natural resource management, and the prioritization of conservation areas. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the nutrient content and pH level of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) derived from ketapang (Terminalia catappa L.) leaf waste in Pulisan Village, East Likupang District. This descriptive study compared the use of dried ketapang leaves (DKK) and fresh ketapang leaves (DKB), fermented for 14 days using a combination of the EM4 bioactivator and a local microorganism (MOL) derived from spoiled rice. Laboratory analysis at BSPJI Manado revealed that both treatments yielded an identical nitrogen (N) content of 0.10%. However, the DKK-based POC exhibited higher potassium (K) content (0.36%) and a more acidic pH (3.51) compared to the DKB-based POC (K: 0.18%; pH: 4.38). Conversely, the phosphorus (P) content in the DKB-based POC (0.03%) was higher than that in the DKK-based POC (<0.01%). Physically, the fermentation process altered the solution's color from brick red to black for DKK and to dark brown for DKB. Although the NPK nutrient levels remain below quality standards, this POC still holds potential for sustainably enhancing soil fertility.
