Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of interest in learning mathematics on the understanding of mathematical concepts in grade VIII junior high school students in the matter of number patterns. Number pattern material is one of the materials contained in the 2013 curriculum for class VIII which is expected to be mastered by students and students because it is closely related to everyday life. In this study the population was all class VIII students of SMP Negeri 28 Tangerang for the Academic Year 2022/2023. The sample selection was carried out in this study by means of probability random sampling, namely class VIII-D students as many as 36 students. The approach used in this research is quantitative and analyzed by simple linear regression. The technique of collecting data by providing non-test instruments in the form of questionnaires on students' interest in learning mathematics and test instruments on the subject of number patterns to measure understanding of mathematical concepts that are closely related to everyday life. Hypothesis testing is done by simple regression with prerequisite analysis, namely testing the normality of the data and the linearity of the data. The results showed that there is no significant effect of interest in learning on understanding mathematical concepts with the regression equation . So it can be concluded that interest in learning affects students' ability to understand mathematical concepts in an insignificant way.

Abstract

This research is based on the mathematics learning outcomes of elementary school students which are still low in terms of student learning outcomes. The current study reveals that as many as 66.67% of students have not been able to achieve the minimum requirements, especially in the section of geometry; reflecting a need to improve mathematics learning outcomes. This gap in learning outcome is due to the fact that a majority of students tended to be passive during learning. The STAD learning model is a learning model that emphasizes student activities and interactions for learning mathematics in the classroom. The research design used in this study is a one group pretest posttest design. The sampling method used in the study was purposive sampling from a class of thirty elementary school students with issues related to mathematical abilities. Data collection techniques consist of primary sources in the form of tests, interviews, and observations, while secondary sources include documentation and literature studies. The data analysis technique used is the t-test (or using the Wilcoxon test if the data is not normally distributed), and the Gain Test. The results showed that there is a positive influence of STAD model on learning outcomes.

Abstract

The study's goal was to see how the cooperative learning model STAD type aided by interactive learning media in terms of students' understanding of mathematical concepts in algebra material at SMP Negeri 1 Suwawa. With 25 students per class were determined using the experimental research post-test only control group design with two classes as a research sample and simple random sampling. As a result, students' ability to understand mathematical concepts in the STAD type cooperative class is higher than in the control class's direct learning model. This is demonstrated by the mean value of students' ability to understand mathematical concepts in the STAD type cooperative model class, which is 70.36 compared to 63.48 in the control class. The inferential analysis using the t test revealed that H0 was rejected because tcount = 1.916 > ttable = 1.68. To summarize, the ability of students' concepts in the STAD type cooperative model class assisted by articulate storyline media is greater than in the direct learning model class.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and evaluate the effects of game-based mathematics learning. Systematic Literature Review (SLR) is used as a method in this research by collecting primary studies through checking the Google Scholar database, Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) from 2013 to 2022 with the keywords "games and learning mathematics" or "games and mathematics education", resulting in 25 relevant primary studies with inclusion criteria. The analysis technique used for the articles or primary studies that have been collected is that each primary study is recorded, then classified by title and year of study. Furthermore, each of the articles included in this study was analyzed to obtain the findings and discussion required to draw conclusions from this SLR study. It shows several results from the 25 articles used as material for the analysis of game-based mathematics learning, namely: 1) There are two types of games that are applied in the process of learning mathematics, namely traditional games, and modern games. 2) In general, the influence of the application of games, both traditional and modern, on learning mathematics is to improve the quality of learning with better indicators of teacher skills and student activity. From the results of this analysis, it can be concluded that the application of games in the process of learning mathematics is effective, because it affects the quality of learning mathematics in schools, especially by increasing student competence. The findings of this study also contribute to providing information related to the trend of game-based mathematics learning in Indonesia, which is expected to become recommendations and ideas for further research.

Abstract

One of the psychological aspects of students that encourage students' mathematical representation ability is self-confidence. The mathematical representation ability of each student is not the same, because of the student's ability to receive and process the information that the teacher has given during the lesson. Thus, the cognitive style also affects the ability of mathematical representation. This article is a systematic literature review (SLR) of 25 studies published until November 2022 with the help of the Publish or Perish (PoP) application with the Google Scholar database. This article aims to investigate: (a) the characteristics of the period, index, research approach, subject matter, and demographics of the participants in the identified articles, (b) learning methods that can improve students' mathematical representation and self-confidence abilities, and (c) the most frequently used cognitive style type. The results of research with SLR show that the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) learning model is effective and able to develop students' mathematical representation skills, and student self-confidence. Mathematical representation ability studies based on cognitive style mostly use Field Dependent (FD) and Field Independent (FI) types, and rarely use spatial and visualizer-verbalizer types. The results of this SLR can be useful for other researchers who are interested in researching this topic in the form of research gaps that can be done for the next research.
