Abstract

PT XYZ is a manufacturing company that produces fabricated components and machines for various heavy construction industries, but the well-known product is train components. PT XYZ has agreed to export train components to many countries so that PT XYZ has a large production target. Workers must work on requests for goods according to a predetermined date, which can cause fatigue. Based on these problems, this research was conducted to determine the value of the physical and mental workload of shift 1 and shift 2 PT XYZ workers and provide suggestions for improvement. Cardiovascular Load (CVL) and Bourdon Wiersma methods are used to identify the worker's workload. Based on the research results, it is known that the workload of shift 2 workers is heavier than shift 1 workers. This problem can be influenced by working hours at night which are less optimal for work. Improvements suggested to overcome this include increasing rest time, setting up a shift system or rolling shifts, and improving the workplace.

Abstract

PT XYZ, a company specializing in heavy equipment component remanufacture, is committed to ensuring that its processes run quickly and efficiently. However, from 2022 to 2023, the disassembly engine process exceeded the average processing time. Observations revealed that 24% of the time was categorized as waste setup time, necessitating a more objective reduction. This research aims to determine the actual total setup time, internal and external activities, and time reduction using the SMED and Fuzzy FMEA methods. The disassembly process includes the main disassembly, sub disassembly 1, and sub disassembly 2. Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) is employed to identify and reduce setup time by distinguishing between internal and external activities. Additionally, this research integrates the SMED method with Fuzzy Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) to identify potential risks in setup activities and determine which internal activities can be modified. Changes to external activities will be analyzed using the 5-Why's method to identify root causes and find solutions. Observations revealed that the average disassembly engine setup time was 20 hours and 12 minutes, consisting of 25 internal activities and 56 external activities. The SMED method resulted in an 18% reduction in setup time, and when combined with the Fuzzy FMEA method, the reduction reached 59%, equivalent to 8 hours and 17 minutes.

Abstract

PT. Vale Indonesia Tbk. is a company engaged in the mining industry, particularly in nickel processing (Ni). The company operates a power plant at Balambano Hydroelectric Power Plant (2x68.5 MW). The company's usual maintenance practice is limited to corrective maintenance, which involves replacing or repairing components only when they are damaged. The aim of this research is to determine the optimal replacement time for preventive maintenance on turbine machines in order to minimize downtime. The age replacement method is used to calculate the replacement interval for components based on their usage life. The research findings show that the mean time to failure (MTTF) of the wicket gate is 2217.824 hours or 92.41 days, which means that the component may experience failure again after operating for that MTTF duration. Therefore, the recommendation is to replace the component every 85 days of operation and perform inspections every 15 days.

Abstract

One of the personal protective equipment that fishermen must have is a life jacket. The existing life jackets basically comply with government regulations such as being brightly colored, able to float and have a whistle. However, the price of life jackets is considered relatively expensive, so fishermen often choose not to use or buy used life jackets. Materials for life jackets such as Neoprene, Nylon, and Polyester have varying characteristics and are adapted to the environment in which they are used. Implementation of RFID technology in life jackets increases identification efficiency and safety management in waters. The yellow color of the life jacket improves visibility in the water, especially in low light. The dimensions of the life jacket are informed by anthropometric studies, with an innovative design that allows development when needed. Assembly design efficiency shortened assembly time from 13201 to 5110 minutes through design improvements.

Abstract

Tofu production generates residue in the form of liquid sewage, which is frequently disposed of in sewers. This has the potential to pollute streams and emit a distinct stench that may disturb the neighboring population. Tofu liquid waste can be converted into electrical energy using a Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) technology. MFC uses the metabolic activity of microorganisms to transform organic chemicals in the substrate into electrical energy. This study will use Taguchi experimental design to provide recommendations for the optimal composition of the substrate usage ratio, incubation period, and addition of bioactivators, as well as their effect on the electrical power produced in MFC system using a combination of tofu liquid waste and rice washing water as the substrate. According to the findings of the research, the parameter with the greatest influence is incubation period (74.81%), followed by addition of bioactivator (19.45%), and substrate ratio (5.46%). The optimal composition is recommended to be incubated for one day with a 5% bioactivator addition and an 80:20 substrate ratio of tofu liquid waste and rice washing water.
