Abstract

Material procurement in construction projects is a complex process involving multiple stakeholders. However, this critical process is not yet supported by an adequate system. Most procurement activities in construction are still conducted manually and have not been digitized, resulting in limited real-time visibility, weak data exchange mechanisms between parties, and a lack of information security assurance. Furthermore, the staged payment schemes commonly used in construction often disrupt cash flow within the supply chain. These issues can lead to conflicts among stakeholders and project delays. Therefore, this study proposes a solution by developing a blockchain-based smart contract model to automate the procurement and payment processes of construction materials in a more transparent, secure, and efficient manner. The methods employed include the development of smart contract procedures, the creation of a blockchain network, and simulations within a blockchain environment using Project X as a case study. Validation was then carried out to assess the time efficiency gained compared to traditional procurement methods as a result of implementing the blockchain-based model. The results show that the blockchain-based smart contract model can improve procurement time efficiency by approximately 78% to 83%, primarily by reducing the duration of administrative and payment processes.

Abstract

Offshore platform decommissioning represents the final stage in the life cycle of oil and gas infrastructure, characterized by complexity, high risk, and substantial costs. The selection of decommissioning methods, such as complete removal, partial removal, and toppling, requires careful consideration of various technical, logistical, financial, risk-related, and environmental factors. This study aims to identify the factors influencing offshore platform decommissioning method selection and analyze the relationships among these factors using a dependency matrix approach based on assessments by five offshore experts. The findings identified nine significant factors influencing method selection. The results of this research provide a foundational framework for developing a more systematic, contextual, and practical decision-making approach for offshore platform decommissioning activities in Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the compressive strength performance of custom-mixed epoxy mortar as an alternative concrete repair material, compared to the ready-mix Sikafloor-81 Epocem. The epoxy mortar was composed of epoxy resin, cornice adhesive, and silica sand, with three epoxy ratios: 0.5, 0.7, and 1.0 by weight of cornice. Compressive strength tests were conducted at 7, 14, and 28 days. Results showed that RE 0.7 and RE 1.0 variants exceeded the 45 MPa target at 28 days, with the highest value reaching 53.80 MPa. In contrast, the Sikafloor-81 Epocem exhibited strength reduction over time. ANOVA confirmed statistically significant differences among the variants. Therefore, the custom epoxy mortar proved superior and feasible to be developed as a reliable solution for concrete repair applications

Abstract

Occupational safety, health, and the environment (K3LH) are still often neglected by building construction workers and companies in Indonesia. This is reinforced by data on the still-high rate of workplace accidents. As a strategic industrial and trade center in the Riau Islands, Batam is experiencing rapid housing and infrastructure development. This high development intensity also increases the risk of workplace accidents. Therefore, this study aims to determine the level of understanding and implementation of K3 in the Rafflesia housing construction project. This study used a quantitative descriptive research method to analyze K3 understanding. The results of the study on the Rafflesia housing project show that theoretically, the workforce has reached a good level with an achievement of 100%. In terms of training, emergency accessibility, work areas and mobilization, and awareness of environmental and disaster risks, there are still significant differences in implementation in the field, especially in the aspect of safe behavior (rescue behavior). The majority of workers, namely 60%, still often do not use PPE, and only 70% consistently implement SOP procedures, even though the workplace accident rate remains low. To maximize the implementation of K3 in the work environment in the Rafflesia housing project, the author provides recommendations by implementing a continuous monitoring system (daily safety patrols and spot checking to ensure consistent use of PPE in the work environment.

Abstract

Concrete structures located in coastal areas are highly vulnerable to deterioration due to exposure to the aggressive marine environment. The presence of chloride and sulfate ions in seawater can penetrate the concrete's pore structure, leading to a reduction in its mechanical strength. Therefore, the selection of an appropriate curing medium is a crucial factor in evaluating concrete durability under such conditions. This study aims to examine the effect of different curing media on the compressive strength of concrete modified with 10% silica fume as a partial replacement for Type I Portland cement. Cylindrical concrete specimens were immersed in three types of curing environments: fresh water, static seawater, and dynamic seawater (directly submerged in the ocean). Compressive strength tests were conducted at 14, 28, and 56 days of curing. The results indicate that the type of curing medium has a significant influence on the performance of the concrete. Specimens cured in fresh water exhibited the highest compressive strength across all curing ages. In contrast, concrete immersed in static seawater showed the lowest performance. Meanwhile, specimens cured in dynamic seawater performed better than those in static conditions but still fell short of the performance achieved with fresh water curing.

Abstract

The construction industry has a high rate of workplace accidents, with most incidents caused by human error. This study aims to analyze the potential for human error in residential construction projects using the Systematic Human Error Reduction and Prediction Approach (SHERPA) and Human Error Assessment and Reduction Technique (HEART) methods. This study applies a quantitative approach by obtaining primary data through observation and interviews, and collecting secondary data from relevant project documents. The SHERPA method is used to identify types of errors based on work task analysis, while the HEART method is used to calculate the probability of human error (Human Error Probability/HEP) by considering the Error Producing Conditions (EPC). The analysis results show that the formwork installation task on foundations and columns has the highest HEP value, namely 0.256, followed by the work of creating boundary lines for wall installation with an HEP of 0.1332. Recommendations provided include technical training outside operating hours and increased work supervision. The integration of the SHERPA and HEART methods has proven effective in producing comprehensive risk evaluations and supporting systematic human error mitigation efforts in the construction field.

Abstract

The Suralaya Power Plant produces approximately 700,000 tons of fly ash and bottom ash annually. To manage this waste, fly ash can be incorporated into concrete mixtures. Fly ash contains silica and alumina, which can react with calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)₂), a byproduct of cement hydration. When activated with an alkaline solution of NaOH and Na₂SiO₃, fly ash can exhibit binding properties. In this study, specimens were prepared using Class F fly ash sourced from the Suralaya Power Plant in proportions of 0%, 100%, 90%, and 80%, activated with an alkaline solution at a ratio of 1:2.5 (10 M NaOH:Na₂SiO₃), and tested at 28 days with water cement ratios (w/c) of 0.45 and 0.55. Class F fly ash was chosen due to its slower setting time compared to Class C. The objective was to evaluate the compressive strength of concrete with varying fly ash percentages and alkaline activators. Results show that fly ash concrete with an alkaline activator (1:2.5) had high slump but low workability due to high viscosity. For w/c 0.45, 100% fly ash increased compressive strength by 58.72% compared to 100% cement concrete. For w/c 0.55, 100% fly ash achieved the highest increase, at 141.03% over 100% cement concrete.

Abstract

The selection of heavy equipment has a significant impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of a project. In this study, a batching plant was chosen because readymix concrete is a sensitive component in the construction sector that can be optimized to save time and costs. This research aims to identify the stages of concrete production at a wetmix batching plant, determine the level of productivity achieved, compare the results with the company's standard productivity benchmarks, and analyze the factors influencing production activities during the observation period. The study employed direct measurement methods by observing the operator's tasks and recording the time taken. The research approach used is based on the time study method. The focus of the study is on the productivity of a wetmix type batching plant in producing Fc’ 30 grade concrete with the addition of fly ash. An analysis was then conducted to determine the cycle time, production capacity, and a comparison of productivity against the company’s standard benchmarks. The productivity of the wetmix batching plant in producing readymix concrete on May 5 and 6, 2025, averaged 84.76 m³/hour per cycle. Therefore, the batching plant of Company X has not yet met the company’s standard productivity requirements.

Abstract

Padang City has numerous coastal areas with sandy soil layers that extend up to 32 m deep. In general, sandy soil in coastal areas consists of loose sand that has low shear strength. Sand in loose conditions needs to be improved to increase its bearing capacity. Bungus Beach is a coastal area in Padang City, West Sumatra. In this study, cement grouting was conducted to enhance the bearing capacity of loose sand on the Bungus beach sand. Grouting was carried out using a 1:1 cement-to-water mixture and with curing times of 1 day, 3 days, and 7 days. Sondir tests were also conducted to obtain soil classification in the field and cone resistance values (qc) before and after grouting. Based on the results of this study, there was an increase in the QC value after grouting by 1.33 - 2.33 times from the QC value before grouting at a distance of 1D (10 cm) at a depth of 100 cm with a maximum curing time of 7 days, while at a distance of 4D the QC value only increased by 1.20 - 2.00 times from the QC value before grouting. The QC value decreases if the distance between the sounding point and the grouting point is far.

Abstract

Geopolymer concrete is one of the alternative substitutes for conventional concrete by utilizing fly ash as a cement substitute. This study examines the effect of varying water-to-cement ratios of 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5 on the morphology and compressive strength of type F fly ash-based geopolymer concrete. The activators used were 10 M NaOH and Na₂SiO₃ with a ratio of 1:1 through the dry mixing method. Morphological testing was conducted using SEM-EDX, and compressive strength was tested using a UTM at 28 days. The results showed that conventional concrete with W/C 0.3 had a dense morphology with low porosity, producing a compressive strength of 32.38 MPa. W/C 0.4 showed a rounded morphology with moderate porosity and a compressive strength of 31.82 MPa. Meanwhile, W/C 0.5 exhibited a rough morphology with high porosity and a compressive strength of 19.48 MPa. In contrast, all variations of geopolymer concrete showed loose morphology, high porosity, and low compressive strength 2.36 MPa W/C 0.3, 1.32 MPa W/C 0.4, and 1.32 MPa W/C 0.5. On average, the compressive strength of geopolymer concrete decreased by 93.93% compared to conventional concrete. The poor performance was due to the incomplete formation of N–A–S–H gel, as water could not dissolve Na₂SiO₃ in the dry mixing method, preventing optimal bonding between fly ash particles. Therefore, type F fly ash geopolymer concrete using the dry mixing method cannot be considered a substitute for Portland cement conventional concrete.
