Abstract

In embankment construction, material selection is critical and must meet technical requirements to ensure quality and safety. The California Bearing Ratio (CBR) value is commonly used to determine the soil bearing capacity in supporting loads applied above it. However, field CBR testing is relatively time-consuming, especially for large- scale projects. Therefore, a faster yet accurate alternative testing method is needed. One such alternative is the use of the Clegg Impact Hammer (CIH). This study aims to analyze and develop a correlation formula between the Clegg Impact Value (CIV) and field CBR values, using the Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) on ML (silt) and MH (elastic silt) soils for embankment construction. The research was conducted in Pomalaa, Southeast Sulawesi through field testing and laboratory testing (soil physical properties). Field tests included DCP and CIH, while laboratory tests covered moisture content and Atterberg limits. The results showed that the silty soils had a moisture content ranging 13.11%-46.95%, liquid limit 32.65%-90.09%, plastic limit 26.62%-59.26%, and plasticity index 5.53%- 33.63%. Field testing (DCP and CIH) showed the best correlation in MH soil at a depth of 20 cm, with an R² value of 0.6979. The resulting correlation formula is %CBR= 0.5896(CIV)1.02. With a correlation coefficient categorized as “strong,” this correlation has the potential to be used as a rapid method for determining CBR values in the field.

Abstract

The use of recycled aggregates in concrete production is an environmentally friendly alternative to reduce construction waste and the exploitation of natural aggregates. This study aims to analyze the influence of the characteristics of recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) on the compressive strength of concrete. The research method involves using aggregates derived from laboratory concrete waste, which are crushed and sieved to pass through a 25 mm sieve. The physical characteristics of RCA were tested, including bulk density, sieve analysis, organic content of fine aggregates, silt content, moisture content, specific gravity, water absorption, and unhydrated cement grain (UCG) analysis. Concrete specimens were prepared with 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% RCA as a replacement for coarse aggregates, and their compressive strength was evaluated at the ages of 7, 14, and 28 days. The results showed that higher proportions of RCA in the concrete mix can lead to an increase in compressive strength.

Abstract

Roads are transportation infrastructures that play an important role in supporting community mobility and regional development. The Dompas-Sepotong (Siak Regency Border) road segment has suffered various damages, causing inconvenience and losses to its users. These damages impact user comfort and result in longer travel times. This study aims to determine the condition of the road pavement and the relationship between road condition and vehicle speed. The method used to assess the pavement condition is the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method, as it is widely adopted and internationally accepted. Meanwhile, vehicle speed was measured through a moving vehicle survey based on Bina Marga Guideline No. 001/T/BNKT/1990. The correlation between road condition and vehicle speed was analyzed using regression analysis. The results of the study indicate various types of damage such as joint cracking, edge cracking, shoulder subsidence, alligator cracking, raveling, potholes, and aggregate polishing, with an average PCI value of 80, which falls into the "very good" category. The equation representing the relationship between PCI value and vehicle speed is Y = 28.3 + 0.419X, with an R² value of 0.937, indicating a very strong correlation. The better the road condition, the higher the vehicle speed. Therefore, improving road quality is highly recommended to ensure vehicle speeds meet provincial road standards.

Abstract

This study addresses the challenge of drainage construction in narrow, high-traffic locations along Slamet Riyadi Road, Kediri, through a comparative analysis of 266-meter precast U-Ditch and Box Culvert systems. The primary objective is to evaluate the cost and time efficiency of both systems using an integrated approach: (1) technical data collection from CV. Kembar Karya Consultant and PUPR Regulation No. 30/2025, (2) dimensional modeling using AutoCAD, and (3) simulation of the Budget Plan RAB and schedule using Microsoft Excel with S-curves. The results reveal three crucial findings: First, U-Ditch yields significant cost savings of 40% IDR 359,704,257 with a total budget of IDR 547,820,228 compared to Box Culvert's IDR 907,524,485. Second, U-Ditch's unit cost is only IDR 2,109,818/unit – 76% lower than Box Culvert's IDR 3,708,762/unit. Third, although Box Culvert installation commenced three weeks earlier, U-Ditch completed the main installation phase one week faster 4 weeks vs. 5 weeks with 18% higher peak productivity 60-70 units/week vs. 51-52 units/week. These savings enabled the reallocation of IDR 360,000,000 for high-quality sidewalk integration. The study confirms U-Ditch's superiority as the optimal solution for cost-time efficiency in urban infrastructure rehabilitation.

Abstract

The Integrated Lecture Building of the State Polytechnic of Shipbuilding Surabaya is constructed vertically or in multiple stories. However, multi-story buildings are vulnerable to lateral loads such as earthquakes and strong winds, especially since Surabaya has the potential for seismic activity. Therefore, the building must be designed to possess optimal structural resistance to lateral loads, such as earthquakes. In this study, the building is designed using a dual system, which is a combination of moment-resisting frames and shear walls to enhance the even distribution of lateral loads. The performance evaluation method used in the building design is a nonlinear static method, namely pushover analysis, based on ATC-40 guidelines. Based on the analysis results, the structural performance level falls under the Immediate Occupancy (IO) classification and exhibits full ductility.

Abstract

Soenandar Priyo Sudarmo Road, located in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, is surrounded by various industrial facilities and storage warehouses, leading to significant stress on the pavement due to heavy vehicle traffic. This condition increases the risk of pavement deterioration. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the impact of overloaded vehicles on the remaining service life of the pavement along Soenandar Priyo Sudarmo Road. The study utilizes both secondary data—such as Average Daily Traffic (ADT) and vehicle loads—and primary data obtained through field traffic surveys. The AASHTO 1993 method is employed to analyze the effect of vehicular loads on pavement life. Two scenarios are assessed: first, assuming all vehicles comply with standard axle loads; and second, analyzing the condition with overloaded freight vehicles based on actual overload data. Calculations include ESAL, W18, truck factor, and remaining pavement life. The analysis results indicate that the cumulative standard load (ΣW18) ranges from 372,983.25 to 16,839,371.72, while the overloaded condition ranges from 731,161.54 to 31,982,312.35. The remaining life percentage under overloaded traffic is reduced by 31%, resulting in a decreased service life of 3.1 years. Consequently, the pavement is projected to reach the end of its design life by November 2028.

Abstract

Soenandar Priyo Sudarmo Road has a relatively high traffic intensity, especially heavy vehicles that support industrial activities in the Prambon area. This causes the road to often experience significant pressure and leading to various types of damage. Road damage needs to be taken seriously, as it directly impacts road service levels. Based on this This research aims to evaluate the extent of damage and the corresponding maintenance strategies for Soenandar Priyo Sudarmo Road. Primary data used includes road damage data and riding quality data, while secondary data includes geometric road data. This study employs the Indrasurya and Dirgolaksono (1990) method to analyze the severity of road damage and identify suitable maintenance strategies. The analysis results indicate that most road segments fall into the moderately critical damage category, with a Road Damage Value ranging from 40 to 90. The Riding Quality (RQ) assessment showed that most road sections were in the RQ3 (fair) category, meaning that standard speeds could still be achieved despite vibrations and more than two rough spots. Based on the obtained road damage values, most road segments are recommended for moderate maintenance, such as manual patching, sealing, and skin patching. Meanwhile, segments with minor damage are recommended for light maintenance, such as pothole repair, crack sealing, and leveling.

Abstract

Drainage excavation is a crucial activity in road construction projects, relying heavily on the effectiveness of heavy equipment to achieve time and cost efficiency. This study aims to compare the theoretical and actual productivity of heavy equipment, calculate idle time, and optimize the number and combination of equipment to improve operational efficiency. The research was conducted over a seven-day period using the time study method at the South Cross Road Project Lot 2 in Blitar Regency. Data were obtained through observations of equipment cycle time, working duration, and the volume of completed excavation. The results revealed significant differences between theoretical and actual productivity. The rock drill breaker had a theoretical productivity of 489.28 m³/day and an actual productivity of 434.48 m³/day; the excavator showed 950 m³/day theoretically and 830.80 m³/day in the field; while the dump truck recorded 464.80 m³/day in theory and 388 m³/day in practice. Idle time was also found to be relatively high, with 1.99 hours/day for the rock drill breaker, 1.71 hours/day for the excavator, and 3.51 hours/day for the dump truck. After optimization through adjustments in equipment quantity and standardizing the work duration to six days, idle time was successfully reduced to 0.98 hours/day, 0.66 hours/day, and 0.14 hours/day, respectively. These findings highlight that proper planning of heavy equipment, in terms of both quantity and working time, plays a critical role in enhancing work efficiency in drainage excavationprojects.

Abstract

The increasing intensity of economic activity and traffic movement in the Babat Highway area, Lamongan Regency, has given rise to various transportation problems, particularly related to the performance of pedestrian facilities and road capacity. This study aims to analyze the level of service (LOS) on existing pedestrian paths and road sections and to develop effective traffic engineering management strategies to accommodate community mobility needs. The methodology used includes a primary survey in the form of traffic counting and spot speed studies for pedestrians and motorized vehicles. The data obtained were then analyzed using the 2014 Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI). The results show that the pedestrian path has not met minimum service standards, characterized by low LOS values and high conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles. In addition, the road section shows a degree of saturation (DS) value that is close to the capacity threshold, indicating the need for traffic engineering interventions. The resulting recommendations include redesigning sidewalks by taking into account user dimensions and needs, rearranging parking spaces, controlling side obstacles, and improving road geometry. The implementation of this strategy is expected to improve safety, movement efficiency, and comfort for road users in a sustainable manner.
