Abstract

Knowledge of the diabetes mellitus diet is the first step in improving the adherence of DM patients to diet. The adherence of DM patients in running a diet is the main key to the stability of the health condition of DM patients. Knowing the relationship between nutritional knowledge and dietary compliance with type 2 DM with the length of participation of prolanis at the Blue Health Center, Bone Regency. Observational research with cross sectional approach. Measurement of nutritional knowledge using a questionnaire, measuring dietary compliance using a 24-hour recall form, and measuring the length of participation in prolanis using absenteeism during counseling. Data were analyzed by Chi Square test. Chi Square test, the p value is 0.595, meaning p>0.05, there is no relationship between nutritional knowledge and participation in prolanis. There is no relationship between nutritional knowledge of type 2 DM patients with length of participation in prolanis, but there is a relationship between type 2 DM dietary compliance with length of treatmen respondents are more active in doing prolanis activities, nutritional knowledge, and dietary compliance. Keywords: diabetes mellitus type 2; nutrition knowledge; diet compliance; prolanis

Abstract

Cocoa beans are one of the most widely developed herbal plants, one of which is edel cocoa beans. Processing of cocoa beans can be through a fermentation process or not. The fermentation process can significantly reduce the concentration of total polyphenols and other active components in cocoa beans through oxidation and exudation processes. Cocoa beans are one of the plants that are rich sources of polyphenols. These polyphenols, especially flavonoids, have various benefits against several pathological disorders, such as cardiovascular disease, inflammatory processes, and cancer. In dentistry, cocoa bean extract gel has been shown to increase the number of fibroblast cells in the socket after tooth extraction of male Wistar rats, so that it has potential as a therapeutic agent. The requirement for a material to be used as therapy is that it must be safe and non-toxic, so it is necessary to carry out a biocompatibility test to ensure safety for the human body. Keywords: toxicity; fibroblast cells; cocoa bean extract

Abstract

Indonesia is a maritime country with abundant marine products, but the processing of marine animal waste has not been a concern, the shell contains chitosan as a multifunctional biopolymer. Chitosan is a proven biomaterial that is non-toxic, biocompatible, and biodegradable compared to other polymers. The purpose of this study was to find out the content of Vaname shrimp chitosan and its inhibition against Streptococcus mutans bacteria. An experimental study was used, with a post test only control group design with the following treatments: control, 16 mg chitosan, 20 mg chitosan. Inhibitory power data (milli meter) was tested with One Way Anova. The research was carried out at the RAN Denpasar Laboratory, the Laboratory of the Faculty of Nutrition (Public Health, Airlangga University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Chemistry, Unair), UPT Analytical Laboratory Unud, and Microbiology Laboratory Unair. Results of this study indicated the content of carbohydrates, nitrogen, water, ash, protein, fat and the degree of deacetylation. Chitosan has an inhibitory effect on Streptococcus mutans bacteria. The quantity and quality of chitosan in Vaname shrimp, mets the requirements specified by Protan Biopolymer and was useful as an antimicrobial. Keywords: chitosan; vaname shrimp; characteristics; inhibition
