Abstract

The purposes of the analysis are to find the phatics categories and the function of it in the context of the dialog. The writer provides data  from the dialog which consist of phatic categories then analyze it. The data of the analysis are taken from Koala Kumal book written by Raditya Dika. Phatic chategories by Kridalaksana, the function of language by Leech, Criteria of phatics by Jacobson are choosen as the theory in this analysis. Based on the analysis the writer found some categories and the function of phatics. Particle as the phatic category which is mostly found in Koala Kumal book. It has the function to convince the meaning of the statement. Phrases and words are also found in it such as terima kasih, apa kabar, assalamualaikum, wassalamualaikum, and halo. The function of  Assalamualaikum, halo, apa kabar are to start the conversation. Abstract

The aims of the research  is to know grammatical mistakes in the text Introduction on English students’ papers, and it is also to know the cause of the occurrence of such errors.  This case study was undertaken within an English Department at the Academy of Foreign Language of Bina Sarana Informatika (ABA BSI) Jakarta academic year 2015/2016. This research used descriptive method with content and discourse analysis on the text. This research was conducted in study subjects of Essay Writing. The result showed that students still do not understand enough the structure of a paragraph. The errors occurred in the technical understanding of the target language. But even so there was also little evidence of the influence of the mother tongue of the mistakes that students made. Students have to understand more the subject-verb agreement.

Abstract

This study aims at deep-portraying the learning of reading skill at Universitas Terbuka (UT, literally Open University) Indonesia. The research was conducted from March 2014 to February 2015. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach conducted with ethnographic methods by adopting the method of Spradley. The data collecting techniques being used were observation, interview, and document analysis. Data is analyzed by using techniques such as domain, taxonomy, component, and theme analysis. The result of the analysis shows that the learning system implemented at UT is through the use of the Internet known as e-learning or online tutorial is appropriate and involve many means to improve reading skills such as the presence of additional materials (initiation), online discussions, and digital library. The cultural finding which is continuously occuring within the learning process is the emerging new roles of teacher in e-learning based on classes. These roles include: (1) mastering the ICT and having the ability to handle technical problems on the technology; (2) having the ability to interact with students in written form; (3) becoming a motivator; and (3) giving written feedback to students.

Abstract

Analysis of figure of speeh. This research aims to describe the figure of speech used by EDGAR ALLAN POE in the short story THE OVAL PORTRAIT. This research used is descriptive method  in form of qualitative by  using  structural  and  stylistics approach. Based on the result of the data analysis, the conclusions of this research that there are four type of figure of speech was found in short story of THE OVAL PORTRAIT by EDGAR ALLAN POE. The data  was shown there are six examples of phrases figure of speech namely: 1) methaphore  was found in this short story only 1 phrase, 2) simily was found in this short story consist of 2 phrases,3) alliteration  was foundin this short story is 2 phrases, and 4) irony was found only 1 phrase. The authors were able to create a better sense to the reader by explaining things in this short story, using stylistic way.

Abstract

Novel is one of human literature creation. Novel consist of five intrinsic elements are theme, character, setting, plot and point of view. Character is someone who acts appears or referred to as playing a park in literary work. Main Character is who are typically characterized fully. Characters make the novel more interesting to read by the reader. The writer chooses the novel that is one of elements of literature, because according to the writer by reading a novel can be developed English skill to the readers. Here, the writer chose character analysis of main character in Sons and Lovers novel written by D.H. Lawrence as her analyses to finish the thesis so that the writer can know that there are six characters in this novel are Flat Character, Round Character, Static Character, Dynamic Character, Protagonist and Antagonist. The writer analyzed the character of Paul Morel and Gestured Morel in Novel Sons and Lovers is written by D.H. Lawrence because this novel is very interesting. The characters in the novel contains the biography of the life of the author that the characters replaced by the name of the author DH Lawrence and the story about the Oedipus complex.

Abstract

Abstract : This research  aims to identify and analyze the effect of the learning interest and learning motivation variables toward student’s learning achievement. Method of data collection in this research is using the survey method with questionnaires. Population in this research is students of MTsN 6 Jakarta. Based on the results of the analysis, it indicates that the learning interest significantly influences the  learning achievement of the students of MTsN 6 Jakarta, shown by the t significant value of 0.001 smaller that α 0.05 with the regression coefficient of 0.224 Learning motivation has a significant effect on the learning achievement of the students of MTsN 6 indicated by the t significant value 0.028 less than α =0.05. Learning interest and learning motivation significantly influence the learning achievement of the students of MTsN 6 shown by F significant  value of 0.000 smaller than α=0.05 and are able  contribute to the learning Achievement variables of 0.470 or 47%. the remaining 53% is influenced by other variables that are not examined in this research. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan pengaruh variabel minat dan motivasi belajar terhadap prestasi belajar siswa MTsN 6 Jakarta timur. Metode pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode survey melalui kuesioner. Berdasarkan hasil dari analisa penelitian ini, mengindikasikan bahwa minat belajar secara signifikan berpengaruh terhadap motivasi belajar siswa MtsN 6 Jakarta Timur, ditunjukan dari nilai signifikan si uji t =0.001 lebih kecil dari α =0.05 dengan koefisien regresi =0.224. Motivasi belajar secara signifikan berpengaruh terhadap prestasi belajar siswa MTsN 6, ditunjukan dengan nilai signifikansi uji t =0.028 lebih kecil dari α=0,05. Minat dan motivasi belajar secara simultan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap prestasi belajar siswa MTsN 6 Jakarta ditunjukan dari nilai signifikansi uji F =0,000 lebih kecil dari α=0.05 dan mampu memiliki kontribusi terhadap variabel kinerja sebesar 0.470 atau 47%. sisanya sebesar 53% dipengaruhi oleh variable lain yang tidak dianalusa dalam penelitian ini.

Abstract

The goal of this research is exploring the syntagm in the short story Jaket Ayah by Eep Saefulloh Fatah. The research method in this research is content analysis. The result and the analysis of the research, the research finds some syntagm elements, the first syntagm is the politician which consist the arrogant political party, the magician, full of theatrics, the traitorous, the tactics, and many promises. Another syntagm is a political party consisting of a cadre crisis, a candidate for leader, a clean person, and a regional head election. Other syntagm is dowry which related to political costs, consolidation and coordination, and extortion. The other syntagm was the other candidate bupati namely imaging, campaign, and famous. The most syntagm is the family which consist attention, affection, and build the future. Next, two very prominent signs are the jacket and the savings. The jacket is a witness in every political event involving the father. Savings funds should be used for the best interests that have been planned from the beginning. A savings fund should be a chapter that must determine a comforting new life rather than troubling and worrying. "Jaket Ayah" was written by Eep Saefulloh Fattah who is a political observer who loves to write stories.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas mengenai pelanggaran maksim percakapan Graice yang terdapat didalam materi stand up comedy. Stand up comedy adalah satu genre comedy yang bertumpu dari kekuatan bahasa dalam menuturkan joke atau candaan . Penelitian ini adalah penelitian qualitative study yang menggunakan pendekatan pragmatik untuk mendeskripsikan apa saja  pelanggaran pelanggaran yang dilakukan oleh para comica. serta implikatur yang terdapat dalam setiap ujaran yang terdapat dalam materi stand up comedy. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah melihat fenomena penggunaan bahasa dalam materi  stand up comedy yang menunjukan bahwa pemakaian bahasa tidak lagi melulu soal alat berkomunikasi tetapi bahasa juga dijadikan sarana menghantarkan ide atau gagasan secara jenaka. Penelitian ini menghasilkan pembahasan data  yang terklasifikasiakan kedalam   jenis jenis pelanggaran menurut  kaidah maksim percakapan Grice.  Kata kunci : Pelanggaran Maksim, Pragmatic, Implikatur.

Abstract

This tendency draws interest to find implicatures and symbol. This paper is using dialog script of Upin Ipin the series part Raya yang Makna. In this analysis the writer uses speech act theory by Searl, implicature theory by Grice, semiotic theory by Pierce. Based on the analysis the writer found  some implicatures and symbols from ketupat and Idul Fitri card. we must always keep in touch by sending card in Idul Fitri and we just give it to someone who celebrate Idul Fitri. ketupat has many symbols such as the shape of ketupat is very complicated, it represents for our sins, the content of ketupat is white means our sins are already forgive. besides that the important value of this serial, shows us about togetherness. It describes from upin Ipin and their friends. Meimei is chinese and jarjit comes from India but they are invited by opah to come to her house and eat ketupat.  Key words: speech act, implicature, symbol, upin ipin the series part: raya yang makna

Abstract

This is an action research study that aimed to improve students’ speaking skill through communicative language teaching technique. It discusses how  communicative language teaching technique can improve students’ speaking skill. Private language schools, on other hand, tend to be better equipped than some goverment schools(thought his not always the case), at English training course students’ speaking skill is still low especially in basic level.The students of english training course find the diffilculties in speaking skill; the students have felt boring with the old techinque. Especially in improving their speaking skill.In the class room action research the writer uses  the picture reconstruction, and students have to discuss and tell in their group, each group contain of 4 until 5 students, the writer made three cycles, and the writer gives the score each cycle according to the speaking measurement.Based on the result research and concluded that the students can improve their speaking skill through communicative language teaching technique. In the first cycle the average students’ score is 60, in the second is 70 point, and in the last cycle is 80 point, and writer has made a graphic of each cycle.Keys word: Improving, speaking, communicative language teaching technique .
