Abstract

Heterogeneous Fenton can solve the problem in classic Fenton which is a homogeneous catalyst. Some of the problems with classic Fenton contained sludge production, lost catalysts, and no reuse. This study focuses on the application of Fe-alginate gel beads in the photo-Fenton system using UV light to degrade the dye rhodamine B. After the synthesis step of Fe-alginate gel beads, beads are used to degrade rhodamine B. In addition, the rate of kinetics, mechanism tests, and the reusable tests of Fe-alginate gel beads was also observed. The results confirmed that the degradation value of rhodamine B is 98.8% with the photocatalytic activity is 88.8%. This heterogenous Fenton system fits in first order and •OH is the main radical species to degrade rhodamine B. The reuseable Fe-alginate gel beads were taken out five times, and showed a degradation value of more than 90%. Therefore, it can confirm that the usage of Fe-alginate gel beads as a heterogeneous Fenton may be applied to industrial wastewater processing containing dyes or organic pollutants because this photo-Fenton system is low cost and also be able on visible light.

Abstract

The increasing population growth in cities will cause environmental detriments such as global warming and ozone depletion. The electricity need will increase in the future due to the higher temperature in the cities, leading to the higher usage of cooling equipment such as freezers. The current study proposed a method to improve the freezer's energy efficiency by using phase change material of dry ice gel. Most of previous studies only focused on the impact of position of phase change materials on the temperature of wall freezer while no previous studies consider the detailed methodology of measurement and the impact of phase change material based on dry ice gel to the variance of wall temperature. The sensor thermocouple type T and data logger ADAM 6018+ were used to measure the wall temperature of the freezer. The results showed that the sensor thermocouple was verified to the calibrated thermometer with R2 = 0.99. The installation of phase change material based on dry ice gel on the wall freezer could maintain the temperature around 1-2oC while the freezer was turned off for 4, 6, and 8 hours. The efficiency of freezer could be increased from 10% to 30% due to using dry ice gel phase change material. The future study should investigate the various types of phase change materials and the new combination of phase change materials.

Abstract

The use of activated carbon in Indonesia is increasingly expanding in line with the increasing demand for activated carbon, so it is necessary to develop activated carbon preparation using many raw materials and activators. Activated carbon from the shell of  rubber fruit using H3PO4 as activator has been synthesized  for adsorption of Pb (II) metal ion. The objective of this research is to find out the best concentration of H3PO4 activator on the activation of activated carbon of rubber shell, to know its ability as Pb (II) metal ion absorbent in solution and to know the characteristics of activated carbon. Parameters observed included activator concentration, pH and initial concentration of adsorbate. The results showed that the optimum activator concentration on preparation of activated carbon from the rubber shell was H3PO4 20% with the Pb(II)efficiency adsorption of 98,20%, while the optimum pH found at 4 with the adsorption capacity of 87,48% . The adsorption capacity increases with the concentration of adsorbate up to 30,73 mg/g at a concentration of 175 ppm. Activated carbon from rubber shell activated with H3PO4 has moisture content 9,22%, moisture content of 23,53%, ash content of 10,27% and carbon bonded 66,20% fulfilling the requirements of SNI 06-3730-1995 . The results of morphological analysis and carbon constituents using SEM-EDX showed that activated carbon contained 93,91% carbon element and Pb element concentration contained in activated carbon after adsorption of 1,13%.

Abstract

The analysis of test items is emphasized as the main focus in improving the quality of tests and providing diagnostic information regarding students' understanding. The Rasch approach is chosen as the statistical method to assess the reliability and validity of test items in mathematics exams. This research specifically aimed to analyse the basic mathematics knowledge test items of elementary school students using the Rasch approach, with the goal of producing high-quality test instruments to measure students' basic mathematics knowledge. This study is a quantitative descriptive research with a sample of 75 elementary school students in Kendari. The analysed test instrument consisted of 25 multiple-choice questions and was analysed using the Rasch approach by implementing the Winstep program. The results showed that twenty-four items were valid and one item was invalid. The reliability obtained was categorized as good at 0.94. There were six items classified as the most difficult, seven items as difficult, nine items as easy, and three items as the easiest. As in the item differentiator, one item was categorized as very poor, one as poor, eleven as fair, and twelve as good.

Abstract

Indoor air quality is something that describes the indoor air quality in a building suitable for human activity and comfort. The purpose of this research was to determine indoor air quality based on NO2 levels in the air and No2-N levels resulting from dehumidifier absorption. The research was conducted on June 20 2023 and June 27 2023 in the materials room of the environmental quality laboratory faculty of civil engineering and planning (FTSP UII) Yogyakarta. In the morning at 08.00 WIB and in the afternoon at 16.00 WIB with each measurement for 60 minutes. The research method used in this research is quantitative research with data analysis techniques descriptive analysis. In the material room, the nitrogen dioxide (NO2) parameter does not meet the NAV while the NO2-N parameter meets the NAB.

Abstract

Industrial waste is one of the most serious problems in the industrial world. Industrial wastewater treatment plants as one of the solutions to overcome these problems require holding tanks as the main part of the system. Holding tanks function as waste reservoirs before further processing. Thus, holding tanks play an important role in reducing the negative impact of waste on the environment and preventing damage to industrial facilities. The holding tank is designed using solidwork and ANSYS in order to ensure the reability and capability in relocatting the coolant waste water. From the results of the research on the design of wastewater reservoirs, the maximum total deformation subjected to a load of 0.00017735 MM is obtained, while the smallest total deformation value is 1.9705 MM. The results of the maximum stress or voltage subjected to a load of 0.17112 Mpa while the smallest stress value is 0.080072 Mpa. And for the results of the maximum strain or strain subjected to a load of 6.868 Mpa while for the smallest strain value is 7.7904 Mpa.
