Abstract

This paper discusses the Islamic politics between the orientation of dakwah and power. Although dakwah was originally synonymous with cultural efforts, but the efforts of those who pull dakwah into the circle of jihad and politics have changed the meaning of the dakwah. In political Islam, dakwah is identical with political purposes of Islam itself, namely the establishment of Sharia and Islamic State. However, the other parties politicize Islam to gain power. According to some people, political parties, including the Islamic party, in Indonesia, politicize Islam rather than fight for Islam.

Abstract

This study examines how Shaykh Salar Rasoul (SSR) (@shaykhrasoul), a Canadian imam and influential digital religious figure, integrates global pop culture into his da‘wah to create a form of “borderless preaching.” Through a digital observation analysis of his TikTok and Instagram videos, particularly those referencing popular culture such as Beyblade and Formula 1. The research explores how SSR employs pop culture as a shared global language to communicate Islamic principles in relatable and entertaining ways. Findings show that SSR's approach relies on semantic bridging, transforming widely recognized cultural symbols into moral lessons that resonate with diverse, international audiences. His humorous, personable style and cultural fluency enable his content to circulate beyond Muslim communities and become part of global digital discourse. This study situates SSR within broader frameworks of globalization, digital religion, and mediascapes, demonstrating how he exemplifies a modern model of da‘wah that adapts effectively to contemporary global cultural flows while retaining the authenticity of Islamic teachings. KEYWORDS borderless preaching; globalization; pop culture; Shaykh Salar Rasoul; social media preaching.

Abstract

The proliferation of hoaxes across digital platforms presents a significant challenge for adolescent religious education and contemporary da’wah practice in Indonesia. This study examines digital-based media literacy as a strategic instrument of da’wah management and reads it through a multicultural local-wisdom lens to understand anti-hoax behavior among adolescents. The research employs a quantitative explanatory approach using a cross-sectional survey, distributing questionnaires to 100 students drawn from five State Senior High Schools (SMA Negeri) across the Greater Jakarta metropolitan region, namely Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek), with schools selected purposively and respondents drawn randomly within each school. Data analysis utilized simple linear regression through SPSS version 20.0, followed by an interpretive analysis that maps the statistical findings onto da’wah management functions and the region’s multicultural local wisdom, encompassing Betawi musyawarah-mufakat and gotong royong, Sundanese silih asih, silih asah, silih asuh, alongside the Islamic principle of tabayyun. The findings indicate that digital media literacy is positively and significantly associated with anti-hoax behavior, accounting for 53.8 percent of the variance in the sample. The study positions digital media literacy as a contemporary form of da’wah bil-hikmah operating through systematic planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling functions, with multicultural local wisdom and Islamic ethics serving as an interpretive framework rather than a measured variable. Given the small, purposively selected sample, the findings describe the surveyed students and are not generalizable to all adolescents in Jabodetabek or Indonesia. KEYWORDS digital da'wah management; media literacy; anti-hoax behavior; local wisdom; tabayyun

Abstract

This study examines cultural and persuasive da’wah strategies in fostering harmony within the Samin (Sedulur Sikep) community in three remote villages in Blora Regency, Central Java, which is known for its resistance to conventional Islamic da’wah. Using a twelve-month qualitative ethnographic design, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with 32 purposively selected informants, and document analysis. The findings reveal five effective cultural da’wah strategies: ‘pacelathon’ dialogues, the integration of values into slametan ceremonies, cross-community mutual aid, partnerships with traditional leaders, and cultural festivals that open up spaces for dialogue that were previously closed off. A persuasive ‘bil-hal’-based approach, in collaboration with traditional leaders, builds trust, strengthens internal openness within the Samin community, and fosters external harmony with the surrounding Muslim community. This research contributes to the Model of Inclusive Da’wah Based on Local Wisdom (MBKL), which is relevant to the management of diversity in Indonesia. Abstract

Digital communication has reconfigured Indonesian Islamic propagation, establishing podcasts as a dominant medium for younger Muslims. This study examines the representation of moderate dakwah by Habib Husein Ja’far Al-Hadar on Deddy Corbuzier’s YouTube channel. Utilizing qualitative content analysis frameworks from Krippendorff and Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, the research analyzes three high-viewership videos focusing on tolerance and interreligious dialogue. Findings reveal that moderate dakwah is constructed through three operational pillars: tasamuh (tolerance), which affirms universal human values across theological differences; tawassuth (the middle way), which offers measured, character-based responses to social conflicts; and la ’anf (non-violence), which uses casual humor and culturally resonant language to dismantle intimidatory discourse. Furthermore, the study introduces the concept of “Digital-Interreligious Homophily,” arguing that moderate dakwah in new media environments relies less on formal religious authority and more on communicative parity achieved through cultural ego-reduction. While this claim is limited to textual representation and has not been tested against audience-response data, it provides a significant modification to classical persuasion communication theory as applied to contemporary Islamic digital media. Abstract

In 2018, the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Papua Province initiated the Musabaqah Qiraatul Kutub (MQK) program for Penghulu, yet its effectiveness encountered impediments attributed to various factors. This qualitative study employed data mining techniques such as interviews, observation, and documentation, supplemented by relevant scientific literature as secondary sources. The theoretical framework utilized for analysis was Soerjono Soekanto's effectiveness theory, and data analysis unfolded through sequential stages of reduction, presentation, and verification. The findings delineate two primary inhibiting factors: a prevalent deficiency in reading and understanding the Yellow Book among participating Penghulu and constraints in budget allocation for the activities. This underscores a sociological construct, elucidating obstacles to the effectiveness of the Musabaqah Qiraatul Kutub (MQK) program. The theoretical implications underscore the imperative of enhancing human resources, facilities, and budgetary allocations to augment Penghulu competence in comprehending and interpreting the Yellow Book. It is pertinent to acknowledge the study's limitations, given the absence of an exploration into the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Papua Province's post-program strategy concerning Penghulu lacking proficiency in reading and understanding the Yellow Book.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the results of a survey on the understanding of the motto "Faith, Knowledge, Charity" at Garut University, which only reached 15.4% of the academic community. From a communication perspective, this raises concern for the researcher, as meaning is the substance of the ongoing communication process. The aim of this research is to explain the motto "Faith, Knowledge, Charity" from the aspects of motivation, experience, and meaning. The research method used is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques include observation, in-depth interviews, literature study, and documentation. Research subjects were selected using purposive sampling, with a total of 11 informants and 3 sources. The results show that the motive for using the motto "Faith, Knowledge, Charity" is the founders' desire to transform the entire academic community of Garut University into beneficial human beings, a field for good deeds, and a source of motivation to achieve the goals of Garut University. The communication experience can be seen in the implementation of the motto through worship to God, doing good deeds to others, and the execution of functions by each element at Garut University. The meaning contained in the motto serves as a foundation for the academic community to carry out every activity, functioning as a motivational drive and a form of responsibility towards the social environment, applied both on campus and in society, to realize the vision, mission, and goals of Garut University.

Abstract

The government initiated an impactful campus program, namely the role of campuses that not only produce graduates but also transform people's lives. One of them is through campus social responsibility based on Islamic values. This study aims to explore the contribution of universities in developing networks and digitizing BUMDes Lumintu in Blora Regency and at the same time carry out the role of preaching in society through Islamic values. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques through observation and in-depth interviews with BUMDes managers, lecturers, students, and other stakeholders. Data were analyzed systematically to understand the role of campuses in village empowerment. The results of the study show that universities play an important role in strengthening networks through collaboration with the government and community. Despite challenges in infrastructure and community involvement, the synergy between academics, government, and the community in different ways, namely through taujih, irsyad and himayah has proven effective in supporting BUMDes development. The University Social Responsibility (USR) approach provides a relevant model for village empowerment, emphasizing the importance of active participation from all parties. Sustainable and collaborative programs are expected to be a catalyst for more independent and sustainable village development.
